1 | Holy Spirit | Gen 1:2 | gmsmith101 | 73138
I agree with jlpang. The Holy Spirit has been here since before creation, and has moved in the life of believers at many times, although He has not not INDWELT believers until after Pentacost. For example, David asked God not to take His Holy Spirit from him when he sinned (PS 51:11). How would this be possible if the Holy Spirit had not been present in David's life to begin with? Not that He indwelt David, but that David knew of the Holy Spirit's presence, if you know what I mean. This is just one example, there are others (which of course I can't think of at the moment!). He was always there, even though He did not indwell the believer.
2 | Holy Spirit and holy spirit? | Gen 1:2 | Ray | 73142
I believe that there is a difference between being "indwelt" and being "filled". I agree with the discussion here about the Holy Spirit being present right from the start of Genesis and the indwelling being after a saving faith in Christ. Colossians 1:27, "...which is *Christ in you, the hope of glory." Psalm 130:1-5, "Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord/. *Lord, hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications. If (Thou), Lord, shouldst mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His/ word do I hope." They hoped in His word and we hope in His Word do we not? Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Thy presence, And do not take Thy Holy Spirit/ from me. Restore to me the joy of *Thy salvation, And sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways, And sinners will be converted to (Thee)." I have included * stars and parentheses for comparisons and contrasts. The Scriptures have the word and the Word, the Spirit and the spirit. Are you open yet to the possibility of our being "filled with holy spirit" as at Pentecost? The Psalm speaks of a steadfast spirit within them. Can we have that same spirit? From the heart, Ray |

3 | Holy Spirit and holy spirit? | Gen 1:2 | Searcher56 | 73160
Word Study ... Oikeo, Pletho, Pleroo ... Ray, there are differences. Indwell ... Oikeo (Strong's 3611) Rom 8:9, 11; 1 Co 3:16 Filled ... Pletho (Strong's 4130) Pleroo (Strong's 4137) Act 2:4, 4:8, 31, 9:17, 13:9, 52; Eph 5:18 Satan filled Ananias' heart (Act 5:3) So with all this we are indwelt once, when we are saved. But, we can be filled more than once ... but hopefully we remain filled. Searcher |
