Hi RIC and GINGERBREAD! The best scenario (see for example AnswersInGenesis.com) is that at the time of the flood Mt. Everest DIDN'T EXIST! The major mountain ranges formed by tectonic plate movements as the fountains of the deep opened - the Atlantic opened up, the Alps, Himalayas, Rockies and Andies all got shoved up DURING the Flood. The land was much flatter before this happened, so far less water required. If the earth was leveled out today, there is enough water in the oceans to cover to a depth of 1.5 KM! | ||||||

Dear TC, The scenario, of the flood you put forth is interesting. but , this is a Scripture based, Bible study. So, pardon me please, but would you provide us with chapter and verse for that scenario? If not, could you please keep your answers, 'Scriptural'? By the way; the theory you presented, is not provable, ether by, Scripture, or History, or science. And, by the way, you stated that the earth was falter before the flood? What then do we make of these verses? Gen 7:19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20 The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. I kinda like what Lincoln said; " it is better to be thought of as a fool, then to open ones mouth and remove all doubts." In the future, please, study the Scriptures before you answer, many of us take the "privilege" of posting here on the Forum, very seriously. Thank you. God bless John |

Answers in Genesis (www.answersingenesis.org) is a very sound bible-based, scripturally correct ministry of scientists, headed by Ken Ham. Likewise, the Institute for Creation Research founded by Dr. Henry M. Morris. On both sites there are vast amounts of material related to this (and all other creation/ evolution/ world-view issues) with the scripture references throughout. My answer was a summary of what I understand is the most prevailing (but not only) answer to a thread that seemed to be getting a bit bogged down. No theory about the past is provable, either Big-Bang based theory or Bible-based theory. Creation science is an area of research which uses scientific principles and methodology to proclaim the truth of God's Word and develop robust arguments against the prevailing atheistic world-view so that we can be ready with an answer in season and out (2 Timothy 4:2). Then we can refute the last-day scoffers (2 Peter 3:3) so they are without excuse (Rom 1:20) . No-one except Jesus can know EXACTLY what happened during the flood, and if all the details were recorded in the bible, they would a) obscure the main points of the text (such as what God did and why He did it), and b) the Bible would be 100 times bigger than it is! Creation science assembles a valid theoretical 'world-view' based on scripture to counter the 'conventional' scientific world-view of big-bang/ ancient universe/ evolution. The principle is to align scientific theory with biblical truth (NOT to bend the latter to conform to science). There is so much material on these (and many other similar) sites - with so much scripture referred to - that there seems little point in trying to reproduce it here in a partial form. I strongly recommend visiting these and similar websites for comprehensive answers to questions like this. I also recommend keeping an eye open for any talks and meeting in your area about such topics. They are a great source of bible study. By the way, 'flatter' doesn't mean there were no mountains! Just not such big ones as we have today! According to Strong's Comprehensive Concordance the Hebrew word 'har' (Gen 7:19-20) is translated "hill, mountain, hill country, mount". The same word (har) is used of Ararat where the Ark ended up (and may well still be!). The peak of Ararat is 4800 m., as opposed to Everest at 8850 m. I hope you don't think I'm being lazy in not giving a direct answer to this response. You will find a browse around either of the above websites informative, fascinating and entertaining. So please don't think I take these discussions lightly. |

Dear TC, You stated, "No theory about the past is provable" first of all I don't believe that statement, it is far to broad, and impossible to qualify, but that is a topic that would take up more room then this modem of communication can provide. I have been to those websites that you recommend, and have read pretty much all they have to offer, and though, they may be, "informative, fascinating, and entertaining," those are not qualities I would necessarily recommend perusing, to any 'serious' Bible student, thank you. Notwithstanding, please, chapter and verse? Study Bible Forum is a 'Scripture' based Bible study. Much rambling can, and does, add confusion. By the way sir, the thread you were answering is from 2001, I would say that any, 'bogging down', that, that thread would do, has been long ago done. If you must, you may have the last word on this mater, I have said my peace, please, read the terms of use carefully, and consider them prayerfully. God bless John |
