Subject: how much water allowed the ark to float? |
Bible Note: Answers in Genesis (www.answersingenesis.org) is a very sound bible-based, scripturally correct ministry of scientists, headed by Ken Ham. Likewise, the Institute for Creation Research founded by Dr. Henry M. Morris. On both sites there are vast amounts of material related to this (and all other creation/ evolution/ world-view issues) with the scripture references throughout. My answer was a summary of what I understand is the most prevailing (but not only) answer to a thread that seemed to be getting a bit bogged down. No theory about the past is provable, either Big-Bang based theory or Bible-based theory. Creation science is an area of research which uses scientific principles and methodology to proclaim the truth of God's Word and develop robust arguments against the prevailing atheistic world-view so that we can be ready with an answer in season and out (2 Timothy 4:2). Then we can refute the last-day scoffers (2 Peter 3:3) so they are without excuse (Rom 1:20) . No-one except Jesus can know EXACTLY what happened during the flood, and if all the details were recorded in the bible, they would a) obscure the main points of the text (such as what God did and why He did it), and b) the Bible would be 100 times bigger than it is! Creation science assembles a valid theoretical 'world-view' based on scripture to counter the 'conventional' scientific world-view of big-bang/ ancient universe/ evolution. The principle is to align scientific theory with biblical truth (NOT to bend the latter to conform to science). There is so much material on these (and many other similar) sites - with so much scripture referred to - that there seems little point in trying to reproduce it here in a partial form. I strongly recommend visiting these and similar websites for comprehensive answers to questions like this. I also recommend keeping an eye open for any talks and meeting in your area about such topics. They are a great source of bible study. By the way, 'flatter' doesn't mean there were no mountains! Just not such big ones as we have today! According to Strong's Comprehensive Concordance the Hebrew word 'har' (Gen 7:19-20) is translated "hill, mountain, hill country, mount". The same word (har) is used of Ararat where the Ark ended up (and may well still be!). The peak of Ararat is 4800 m., as opposed to Everest at 8850 m. I hope you don't think I'm being lazy in not giving a direct answer to this response. You will find a browse around either of the above websites informative, fascinating and entertaining. So please don't think I take these discussions lightly. |
