1 | Remember the Sabbath; when? | Gen 1:1 | Searching333 | 89753
Should we remember the Sabbath on saturday or sunday? The Sabbath use to be remembered on saturday's until the Roman Catholic Church changed it to sunday to coincide with the pagan holy day of the sun. Hence, Sun-day. |

This is just my opinion, but I don't think it matters. The bible never says "the sabbath shall be celebrated on saturday", or "the sabbath shall be celebrated on sunday". I think the important thing is that we celebrate the wonder of what God created. Also I don't think this sort of thing should be limited to one day a week. Our whole lives should be spent in constant awe of the many great things God has done.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: I agree...I was born again in a church that worships on Sunday, so I know the Holy Spirit was there. His Spirit led me to a church that worships on Sunday, and I know He would not lead me to a place of 'sin'. I know experience does not trump the Word, but when one finds God manifesting His presence in a worship service on Sunday, one must conclude He is OK with it! God bless |

Graceful Manifestations prove nothing! Mormons have great manifestations, and each Mormon will tell you with total conviction the burning in their bosom confirms they are in the place. There isn't one that sat in Tilson's church that didn't beleive they were in the right place yet they found out later he was only after their money. God gave us the Bible, if the teaching does not line up with the Bible exactly then it is false no matter if every body it the grave yard behind the church stands up and swears this is the right church or not. No matter how you feel in the spirit. Matthew 7:22-23 MANY will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' [23] And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' (Emphasis mine.) If someone doesn't know what the Bible says how can they know if God presence is in the worship? Because they got chill bumps? If you can be deceived to believe what many are today they wouldn't know God presence in a worship service if they tried. I watched 900 people worship in the church service lead by a man that moved in familar spirits and everyone of them would swear the Spirit was there. Well a spirit was there but it wasn't the Holy Spirit of God. EdB |

Graceful Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath Matt. 12:8, Mark 2:29 and Luke 6:5. He fulfilled the Sabbath. To understand that we have to understand what the Sabbath was. Most confuses the Sabbath with the worship of God. No good Jew would ever consider worshipping God on just one day. The Sabbath was a day of rest. Genesis 2:1-3, Ex 16:23. It was made for man Mark 2:27. It was also a picture of the rest that was yet to come in the form of a Savior. Jesus was the rest giver Shiloh Gen 49:10, we find our rest in Him Hebrews 4:3. Since He provides for our rest Jesus has indeed fulfilled the purpose of the Sabbath. The Christian Sunday is a day of celebration and rejoicing that our Savior has arose. In fact the early Christians (Jews) celebrated both the Sabbath a day of rest and reflection and Sunday a day of worship and celebration. It wasn’t until much later that the church rather than deal with these explanations merely said the Sabbath is now on Sunday and that day you should be in church. That satisfied most as they didn’t read their Bible but knew the 10 commandments. It also helped to fill the churches :-) However our Sunday worship is no more the Sabbath rest than what we do on Monday or Tuesday is. Since Jesus fulfilled the Sabbath and we are not longer required to keep that law Sunday should not be called Sabbath or confused with the Sabbath. Sunday is the day set aside to worship and rejoice that our Savior lives!!! This has been explaned many times by me and others on this forum if anyone cares to read about it or wants more information, do a search on "Sabbath". EdB |

EdB, I am sorry I missed the earlier "explanations" given about the Sabbath and the observance thereof; therefore I am compelled to respond to this posting for two reasons: 1) this is a current discussion, and 2) your understanding is incomplete. Do not become offended by that statement. I am not writing this post to kindle any kind of debate or anger; you are to follow the scripture given and meditate thereon, and if your heart is not hardened, the Holy Spirit will give you a more complete understanding. Please do not disregard the meat of this post as splitting hairs or semantic points. The Adversary would have you to believe so, but everything is important to receive what God has for us. Our understanding of the observance of the Sabbath is more crucial to our salvation than most Christians realize. God ordained the seventh day for the Sabbath by merely acknowledging a seventh day; He then blessed it and sanctified it (Gen 2:2,3). He COMMANDED that on the SEVENTH day man was to rest from his work(s) as He rested from His (Ex 20:8-11). Keep in mind that this was a COMMANDMENT and not Law. The Law dealt with HOW to keep the commandments. Herein, lies the confusion. All commandments are orders, do this; don't do that. Most of the time, a command was given to a specific person, and, at all times, specific instructions were given in how to fulfill any given command. In the ten commandments, we have orders for living a life in God('s way). The Law as given by God through Moses was the specific instructions to keeping the commandments. By the time of Jesus' ministry, the Adversary had perverted the function of the Law. People began to view it as a means of salvation; they quantified and measured their holiness by it. It eventually led to a division of the people into two basic groups-the masses and the rabbis. The rabbis of the Pharisees and Sadducees viewed themselves as masters of the Law in knowledge and in deed. Because of their dominance in society, their physical mastery of the Law became a means to enslave or suppress the masses. In other words, they began to use the Law to secure their exalted status in society by bringing attention to the "unLawful" actions of others; therefore, if a person could not master the Law, they could not challenge the system which had become corrupted. Then came Jesus. Jesus broke the yoke of the rabbis. He condensed all the commandements and the Law (another source of confusion: by this time also, the Law was seen as covenential commandments as opposed to instructions to fulfilling the commandments) into two commandments: love God with all your heart, strength, mind, and soul; and to love your neighbor as you love yourself (Mt 22:37, Mk 12:30, Lu 10:27). Hence, the question changed from needing external approval, "Rabbi, am I doing this right," to internal review, "Am I doing this for God." Jesus' ministry accomplishes several things: fulfills the law (Mt 5:17,18); does away with the need for the temple (Mt 12:6), the high priest (Heb 3:1, 4:14), and rabbis or teachers (1 Cor 12:1-11); in fulfilling the Law, JESUS DID NOT DO AWAY WITH THE SABBATH; He taught the true observance of the Sabbath (Heb 10:1,2) and the correct relationship of man to the Sabbath (Mk 2:27). He did not, however, change the DAY-Friday evening to Saturday evening-on which the Sabbath was observed; this change was made by the Romans/Gentiles who had converted to Christianity. |

Hello popdzl You are indeed splitting hairs--even to the nth degree. Your attempted differentiation between commandment and law does not exist. Paul states in Romans 7:7b (ESV) I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, "You shall not covet." Is the apostle confused as to proper terminology? I think not. Steve |
