1 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | meusing | 153314
The best illustration of this is the story of a young woman who tried to read a book a friend had recommended to her. She found it very boring and put it aside. A few weeks later she went to a party and met the author of the book. He made quite an impression on her. (So much so that a year later she married him). Anyway, she went home and reread the book and was fasinated by it. The difference? She had met the auhor of the book and it was an insight ito his mind. The Bible is precious to us since we know the Author and we Know more about the Author through His word. |

2 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | Lionstrong | 153321
This is a good illustration, Meusing, except the author's book did not reveal all that his wife came to know of him. The Author of our Book has told us ALL He wants us to know of Him (and it's quite a lot!), and there is no more to learn of Him apart from it. So, again, to the extent we know the word of God, to that extent we know God, because the Bible is God's revelation of Himself. But some may say, "But Christ is the highest revelation of God!" Yes, that's true. Hebrews 1 says, "God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power." But our only reliable source of the knowledge of Christ is his word alone by which the Spirit of God reveals Him to us. Matt 11:27 "All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. The only means to the knowledge of God is through His Son. The only means to the Son is by the Spirit working through and with the word of God. So it is not that "we know the Author and we Know more about the Author through His word," as if there were another source of knowledge besides the Bible. There isn't. We know about the Author ONLY through His word which the Spirit of God uses to illuminates us, and we know Him MORE only through that same word. So, to love God is no different than loving His word wherein alone He reveals Himself by the Spirit through Christ our Savior. |

3 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | Ray | 153323
Hi Lionstrong, An excellent post and I agree with you totally. You wrote, "The only means to the knowledge of God is through His Son. The only means to the Son is by the Spirit working through and with the word of God." I ask you this question: Love God, His Word, any difference? From the heart, Ray |

I know what you mean by your question, Ray, but I prefer not to play the lower case-upper case game. Peace, |

5 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | Ray | 153331
Hi Lionstrong, You play the "game" more than you think, perhaps. You have in this thread spoken of the word, the Holy Bible in order to diferentiate between the word and the Word. The people who have responded to your thread have been talking of the "word of God", thus showing that they understand the difference between the word and the Word as well. 1) In the paragraph of yours that I quoted, you made sure to capitalize "Son", using your shift key and playing the game. I think you found it important to point out the knowledge of the Son as well as the word, the Scriptures. I believe that this knowledge of the Son is important to you and us, (This One who is not the son of God, but the Son of God, not a son of man but the Son of Man, not a god but God Himself). 2) In a post of yours on a thread about receiving the Holy Spirit, you found it important to stress that the Holy Spirit was a person [sic] and not a thing. You were looking at Titus 3:6 and Ephesians 1:14 and saying that the Holy Spirit was a "who" rather than a "which". That is playing the lower-case-upper case game; and we all should be players in it. From the heart, Ray |

6 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | kalos | 153332
WHY should we all be players in the upper-case/lower-case game? Moses wasn't. David wasn't. Isaiah wasn't. Daniel wasn't. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter and Paul weren't. So WHY should we be?
7 | Love God, His word, any difference? | Ps 95:10 | Ray | 153359
Hi Kalos, What makes you think that the men of faith in the past were not players in the upper-case/lower-case game? 1) Do you think that Enoch walked with god three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah? Of course not. Genesis 5:22 2) Do you think that Noah did according to all that a man had commanded him? Of course not. Genesis 7:5. 3) Do you think that Abraham believed in the lord; and he reckoned it to him as righteousness? Of course not. Genesis 15:6. Do you think that Abraham was told by God about the promise, that "he who is coming will come, and will not delay. But my righteous one shall live by faith"? No, but surely the Messiah is coming and His righteous one shall live by faith. Hebrews 10:37. 4) Do you think that Moses thought that he had been given the Law of the one true god? Of course not. I'm pretty tired tonight so I have to stop there. I hope that helps to show where I am coming from. From the heart, Ray |
