1 | Shoes, sandles and shod feet a study | Ps 60:8 | faithfulfeet@yahoo.com | 48854
Judah is the scepteror the seat of government. (Gen. 49:10) Ephriam is to be the helment the protector of the realm. Israel's enemies will be defeated. Moab with its sea is the basin or washing pot and Edom is where the shoes will fall when the feet are washed. The casting or throwing of the shoe over Edom is a symbolic act to proclaim possession or dominion over it. Similar to the old song, "These boots are made for walking."
2 | Who are Moab, Edom and Philistia? | Ps 60:8 | Mommapbs | 48906
Who are the characters in this Psalm? Is there a present day Moab, Edom and Philisia? From my recollection (dangerous, I admit) Moab was the decendants of Lot resulting from from an incestuous realtionship. Edom was the descendants of Esau, the twin who sold his birthright. And Philistia, help me here, does this represent all the "heathen" nations that Israel conquered? (or rather should have) - Perhaps we wouldn't have the Palestinian conflict today if they had been obedient to God when they went in to take the land He had given them in the first place!? |

3 | Who are Moab, Edom and Philistia? | Ps 60:8 | srbaegon | 48934
Hello Mommpbs You are correct concerning Moab and Edom. As for Philistia, I had previously done some research in on a different subject. Here is an excerpt: Cretan Character (1:12-13a) -- Crete was the center of the Minoan maritime empire named after King Minos. The empire flourished from 2000 to 1500 BC and suddenly collapsed around 1400 BC. The Minoans were known to the Egyptians as "Keftiu" and is similar to the Jewish "Caphtor" which Scripture indicates to be the origin of the Philistines who came to Palestine (Jer. 47:4; Amos 9:7). The Caphtorim were originally the descendants of Ham (Gen. 10:14) who later invaded the eastern edge of the Mediterranean Sea and established five city-states: Gaza (Deut. 2:23), Gath, Ashkelon, Ashdod, and Ekron. Also, the Cherethites of David’s bodyguard (2 Sam. 15:18) appear to have been native-born Cretan mercenaries, later coming under judgment (Ezek. 25:16; Zeph. 2:5) with the rest of the Philistine nation. (end excerpt) My understanding is that Edom and Moab were wiped out. I've heard that the modern day Palestinians are the descendants of Philistia, but someone else would have to verify that. Steve |

The prime minister of Israel sits down with Arafat at the beginning of negotiations regarding the resolution of the conflict. Prime Minister Sharon requests that he be allowed to begin with a story. Arafat replies, "Of course." The prime minister begins his story: "Years before the Israelites came to the Promised Land and settled here, Moses led them for 40 years through the desert. The Israelites began complaining that they were thirsty and, lo and behold, a miracle occurred and a stream appeared before them. They drank their fill and then decided to take advantage of the stream to do some bathing -- including Moses. When Moses came out of the water, he found that all his clothing was missing. "'Who took my clothes?' Moses asked those around him. "'It was the Palestinians,' replied the Israelites. "Wait a minute," objected Arafat immediately, "there were no Palestinians during the time of Moses!" "All right," replied the prime minister. "Now that we've got that settled, let's begin our negotiations." |
