1 | The peace of Jerusalem? | Ps 122:6 | Mommapbs | 157290
Please comment of the implications of this command to "pray for the peace of Jersualem"? Is this different from praying for world peace? Are they related?
2 | The peace of Jerusalem? | Ps 122:6 | DocTrinsograce | 157293
Hi, Momma... The only kind of peace that matters to the slightest degree is peace with God (Romans 5:1). This peace only comes through Jesus Christ resulting from reconciliation with our God, a kind of peace that the world knows nothing about (John 14:27). Consequently, when we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, I think it ought to be evangelical in nature. In the same way, as we pray for peace in the world, we know that the sword will never depart from it until God intervenes (Matthew 24:6). To pray for peace in a worldly sense, therefore, is to pray contrary to what Christ actually said! However, we can and ought to pray for the salvation of a lost world, always being ready to offer a reasoned explanation (apologetic) for our faith. In so doing, we become (Matthew 5:9). In Him, Doc PS I'm taking the day off from work. It is nice to be on the forum in the middle of the day! :-) I trust that you and yours are well. |

3 | The peace of Jerusalem? | Ps 122:6 | Mommapbs | 157294
Thanks Doc - this was where I was heading - to pray for world peace is to offer an evangelistic prayer - no Jesus, no peace! Does this verse affect how we as believers should view Israel? I'm wondering if there are practical implications for our stand on issues relating to the nation of Israel? Great to hear from you. School is back in session so I'm on vacation now!! mommapbs |

4 | The peace of Jerusalem? | Ps 122:6 | DocTrinsograce | 157299
Hi, Momma.. Depends on your theological perspective. A dispensationalist sees something in the earthly nation of Israel that I do not find warranted in Scripture. Without Christ, the average Israeli is in the same fix as the average Chinese: lost. In Him, Doc |

5 | The peace of Jerusalem? | Ps 122:6 | Mommapbs | 157300
Oh my, my dispensationalist upbringing is rearing its head here I guess! But I'm teachable . . . so when one prays for the peace of Jerusalem, we pray for Christ to reveal Himself to that nation? Hence one would be praying for the Second Coming of Christ? Thanks for your insight Doc! mommapbs |

6 | The peace of Jerusalem? | Ps 122:6 | DocTrinsograce | 157319
Dear Momma, No, one prays for Israel as we pray for all other nations: that they would be saved. We are to pray for the laborers who preach the gospel to them. We are to pray that God would divinely intervene, granting them saving faith. In Him, Doc |

7 | The peace of Jerusalem? | Ps 122:6 | Mommapbs | 157592
Greetings Doc: To elaborate on what you have posted, it seems to me that when we pray for the "peace of Jerusalem", we are praying not for a people group, nation, program, or process; we are praying for a Person, the Prince of Peace, Jesus. That He would be revealed, magnified and glorified; thus given first priority in our lives and in the lives of others. Can two walk together unless they be agreed? Come quickly Lord Jesus! Blessings on your day! mommapbs |
