1 | what is it to be an overcomer? | Revelation | docandlinda2 | 210494
In Revelation in each of the letters to the churches He tells them they must be overcomers to eat from the tree of life, not be hurt by the second death, give hidden manna and a white stone with a new name written on it, give authority over nations, be dressed in white andnver have their name blotted out of the book of life, make a piller in the temple and the right to sit with Jesus on His throne, but what are they to overcome? We will not be made perfect until they day of Christ Jesus, and will sin, so exactly what to we need to overcome, as it reads to me that if we do not, we will not be with Him in heaven?
2 | what is it to be an overcomer? | Revelation | skccab | 210495
Shalom docandlinda2, I'm going to give you my understanding of the word "overcomer," which is very simple. Faithful. To those who remain faithful to His calling, His statutes and commandments. Overcomers are those who weighed the cost of serving Him, who picked up their cross and obediently followed until they died (or who will be caught up with Him at a future date). Cheri |

3 | what is it to be an overcomer? | Revelation | docandlinda2 | 210501
Because of what Jesus did to save me, I try to do His will by following, obeying and being faithful. but I am not always faithful, though I try and ask for forgiveness and turn away from. My sins are more reactive than proactive, and normally as soon as I realize, which is normally right after I do it, I ask for forgiveness. So I know that I am not always faithful, but my desire to sin has diminished so much, that I praise God for his grace in changing me. Nevertheless, I am concerned that I am not an overcomer. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you so much for your words. Your sister in Christ, Linda |

4 | what is it to be an overcomer? | Revelation | DocTrinsograce | 210509
Dear Linda, The fact that you are convicted by sin is a significant evidence of your being born again! The unbeliever doesn't have that struggle, because they peacefully accommodate their sinful natures. As you persevere with this effort to grow in holiness (called progressive sanctification), God will ultimately satisfy your hunger for righteousness (Matthew 5:6). Focus on Christ Himself, not some self-centered (versus God-centered) idea like that which you've been taught. The more you know the holiness and righteousness of our Lord, the more you will be aware of your own failings. But God -- who started this transformation in you -- will also finish it (Hebrews 12:2). Our great hope is that we will be like Him (1 John 3:2). That purity is assured to us when we stand before Him. So be encouraged, young lady! In Him, Doc "I do not know of a single scripture -- and I speak advisedly -- which tells me to take my sin, the particular thing that gets me down, to God in prayer and ask Him to deliver me from it and then trust in faith that He will. Now that teaching is also often put like this: you must say to a man who is constantly defeated by a particular sin, 'I think your only hope is to take it to Christ and Christ will take it from you.' But what does Scripture say in Ephesians 4:28 to the man who finds himself constantly guilty of stealing, to a man who sees something he likes and takes it? What am I to tel such a man? Am I to say, 'Take that sin to Christ and ask Him to deliver you?' No, what the apostle Paul tells him is this: 'Let him that stole, steal no more.' Just that. Stop doing it. And if it is fornication or adultery or lustful thoughts, again: Stop doing it, says Paul. He does not say, 'Go and pray to Christ to deliver you.' No. You stop doing that, he says, as becomes children of God." --Martyn Lloyd-Jones |
