1 | John-author of Gospel and Revelation? | Revelation | Grandpamike | 26342
My question concerns the authorship of Revelation. I have begun studying this book in ernest since reading the Left Behind series. As a Roman Catholic I have found the Church's teaching to be very different from that of many other denominations, particularly whether John the Evangelist and John the Revelator are one in the same. In trying to find an answer to this I have found that even the early Church fathers did not agree on this. Is there any definitve evidence one way or the other on this subject? Mike. |

2 | John-author of Gospel and Revelation? | Revelation | Searcher56 | 26343
Scripture ... John 13:23; 19:26; 20:2; 21:7,20,24; Rev 1:1,4,9; 22:8 ... Mike, Greetings John is known as the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 13:23; 19:26; 20:2; 21:7,20,24) and most, if not all, agree that he wrote the gospel. Four verses indicate that John wrote Revelation (Rev 1:1,4,9; 22:8). Whether he is the same person who wrote the gospel aand three epistles has been debated. My NIV Study Bible says that Dionysius compared the language of Revelation with the other letters and thought they did not have the same style. He claims John the Presbyter. I agree with Justin Martyr who thinks it was the same John. Hope this helps, Searcher |
