1 | help find a bible? | 1 Thessalonians | Natoochton | 156305
You can obtain a copy of God's word in many places; a local church is your best choice, also at a Christ Bookstore (Family Christian Stores), I notice that a lot of Christian coffee houses have numerous translations. Now as far as translations are concerned, there's a ton. You'll probably find the NIV (new international version) in most churches as far as what you pick out of the pews. I prefer the NIV only because i do not have the intellectual capabilities required in understanding the King James version, the NIV is translated into modern english. Oh, sorry this probably makes the preceding worthless, but oh well. I am new to this forum so I would not have noticed it off hand, but in your right margin of course, you have access to an online New American Standard Bible. I hope this can provide you with some beneficial information. |

Greetings New2Bible, Including this website, there are a number of websites in which you can read the Bible or download the Bible, including.. http://www.bible.org http://www.e-sword.net http://www.htmlbible.com/ http://www.goshen.net/ http://unbound.biola.edu http://www.studylight.org/pref http://www.blueletterbible.org http://etext.virginia.edu/frames/bibleframe.html http://bible.crosswalk.com http://bible.gospelcom.net As for picking up a Bible for free, my church (http://www.jesusmc.org) has a basket in the Narthex (as you walk in) that has donated Bibles that you can take home for free. If you live in the Indianapolis, IN area, that is. Believe it or not, I walked in to Berean Bible Bookstore about 11:00 AM yesterday (Saturday) and purchased a complete NKJV for only 97 cents! I believe that the best two Bible translations out there today (in English) are the NKJV and the NASB. Feel free to visit your local church or local Bible bookstore or local Gideons society (they are always handing out those handy New Testaments!).. Blessings to you, Makarios |

5 | Is there a free Bible? | 1 Thessalonians | Makarios | 156368
Greetings Kalos! I believe that the answer may lie in whatever 'manuscript family' you like.. Since I was brought up on the NIV (I know, I'm a youngin!), growing up with the NASB wasn't too much of a problem for me. But for those who really like the KJV better, remember the KJV, and have become quite familiar with it, the NKJV is a logical step forward and a very accurate translation itself. There are certain personal issues of mine that keep the NASB as "supreme" for me, but I do use the NKJV quite a lot in comparison with the NASB and ESV. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Hi Makarios, The NKJ and the NASB are the top of my list too. I think the NKJ is the best representative of the Received Text, and the NASB is the best of the Critical Text. I've recently discovered the World English Bible. It seems to be a good representative of the Majority Manuscript, but I haven't had time to really check it out. Love in Christ, Mark |

7 | Is there a free Bible? | 1 Thessalonians | Makarios | 156432
Greetings Mark! From what I've read and seen from the World English Bible, I believe that it is a very good, highly accurate translation. I believe that it is based on the Byzantine Text tradition (Majority Text, Textus Receptus) as you have stated, the same tradition as the KJV and NKJV. But I'm not exactly sure if it is based on the Textus Receptus itself or mostly on the Majority Text. It is definitely more of a formal equivalence type of translation. Blessings to you, Makarios |

8 | Is there a free Bible? | 1 Thessalonians | mark d seyler | 156450
Hi Makarios, According to their website, the WEB Bible is considered an update of the 1901 American Standard Bible, but is using the Byzantine Majority Text as its base NT manuscript. As I understand it, they first updated the language, punctuation, and grammer of the 1901 ASB, then referred to the textual variants of the Majority Text, to bring it more in line with that family. As I understand it :-) ! It is available for download at: http://www.ebible.org/bible/web/ Love in Christ, Mark |
