1 | Biblical contradiction? | 2 Chr 35:21 | Seedsower | 37273
Thanks- This answer had occured to me but I rejected it on the grounds of the Sovereignty of God. Isa.55:11 teaches us that God's Word, once He has spoken it, will not return to Him void but will accomplish the purpose for which He sent it out. If we accept that God's word didn't come to pass because of Josiah's arrogance then we come to the conclusion that the outcome of the word of almighty God depends on man. I don't think that The Bible teaches that at all. Josiah was the king and as such he led his people into battle, a battle in which he was killed. So again I ask: how did he die in peace (the language used suggests that Josiah would have a peaceful death) as The Lord states when speaking through the prophetess? |

2 | Biblical contradiction? | 2 Chr 35:21 | Emmaus | 37283
Seedsower, I guess I have nothing more to offer on this passage. But wouldn't your same theory apply to the Jonah and Nineveh story where God said he was going to destroy Nineveh, but then releneted when the Ninevites did penance much to Jonah's dismay. Did that make Jonah a false prophet? Emmaus |

3 | Biblical contradiction? | 2 Chr 35:21 | Seedsower | 37517
Once again I thank you for your answer. However,I don't think that the two episodes can be connected in that way: in the Josiah story he was told by The Lord through the prophetess that he would die in peace and that was that. Jonah was told to "cry out against it (Nineveh); for their wickedness has come up before me." God always sent His prophets when preaching to a body of people with the messaage to "repent or perish" if you will, there was always a way back for them. In the case of Josiah it was a simple statement of fact to an individual, not a message of impending doom to a people unless repentance was forth coming. "Surely I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace etc..." 2Chron.34:28
