1 | Are tongues a world language or not? | 1 Corinthians | Francene Johnson | 51681
All I can say is tongues is a gift from God, some people when they are praying they go into tongues, and sometimes when the Lord wants to say something he will have someone speaking in tongues. But tongues are for the unbelievers. I spoke in tongues only at the time I received the Holy Ghost. I was told by people that have the gift of interpretation that I was speaking to the Lord and trying to defeat an unclean spirit. But I want the gift of tongues and the gift of interpretation,
2 | Scriptures teach how to interpret? | 1 Corinthians | JeffBradt | 180862
Hello Francene, I am curious. What gave those people that you believe to have the gift of interpretation the aptitude to interpret correctly what you were saying to those spirits when you received the Holy Spirit? I guess what I'm wondering is, how do you know they are not mistaken? Do you just trust them, that they won't make that mistake? (Perhaps you know them well enough to make this assessment.) And, if so, how can you back that up with Scriptures? I may be coming across a bit challenging, but I want it to be clear in our minds. Scripturally, how does one know what is being said when someone 'speaks in tongues'? This is important in light of 1Cor 14:13-14, which says that "anyone who speaks in a tongue" should pray so he knows what he is saying. (taken from NIV) Finally, why do you say, "tongues are for the unbelievers"? Can you back that up with Scripture also, please? Thanks, and God's blessings. Jeff |
