1 | Help! Unclean vs clean meat? | Acts | LRP2008 | 204902
My mother in law has been studying the bible religiously and she knows more than my wife and I as we barely study to be honest and need to get more into our bible study. She just recently told us over this weekend that she will not be eating anymore meat. We got into discussions about this and she said that all meat is Unclean and that she would not eat it any longer. However, she will still eat Eggs. I am really confused at this point and need to read and study for myself, but I wanted to find a forum to ask this question. What meats are considered Unclean and Clean, what what can we eat and should not eat according to GOD's word? She told us that fish is also unclean, but I read a passage that said, anything with a tail and scales is considered clean. My wife and I want to follow the laws of GOD, but we are confused. Can anyone that has come down this road help us out? What are your beliefs about Unclean and Clean meats? I have all the scriptures, but really need guidance. I will ultimately make the decision for my family but need some help understanding this all. Didn't Jesus eat 5 loaves and 2 fish? So how could it be unclean? |

Hi LRP.... Welcome to the forum! Here are some Scriptures that I hope will ease your worries. I would suggest to go ahead and eat what you like. Acts 10:9 On the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray. v10 But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance; v11 and he *saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground, v12and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air. v13 A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!" v14 But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean." v15 Again a voice came to him a second time, "What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy." v16 This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into the sky. I hpoe this helps Shalom and God bless John |

Hello John, The purpose of the vision given to Peter in Acts 10:9 is revealed in Acts 11. The visions purpose was to show Peter/Jews that God had granted repentance to life to the gentiles whom the Jews had considered common or unclean. Notice that Cornellius was a gentile Acts:10:1 and Peter a Jew states in Acts:10-28 that it was not lawful for him to keep company with a gentile. Peter says "God has shown me not to call any man common or unclean". My name is Steven :) peace.

Dear Steven: You're correct when you say it was now lawful for Peter to associate with Gentiles but, you're mistaken about peter (also known as Cephas) not eating with the Gentiles, or being under the law to not eat with them, and we are quite safe to say that they were not eating Kosher! But when his Jewish friends showed up he pretended to then that he had not been eating with them, and Paul rebuked him for doing this and called him a hypocrite! Paul says in Galatians ch 2 "But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. For prior to the coming of certain men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, fearing the party of the circumcision. The rest of the Jews joined him in hypocrisy, with the result that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in the presence of all, "If you, being a Jew, live like the Gentiles and not like the Jews, how is it that you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews? "We are Jews by nature and not sinners from among the Gentiles; nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified." Gal 2:11-16 That puts the lavitical law on the shelf does it not! Shalom John |

John, Peter in Acts 10:28 Says "You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean." Peter understood then what the vision meant. Gal 2 is talking about the hipocracy of Peter which is a totally different subject than the original question from LRP concerning clean and unclean foods.
