2 | Was John the Baptist really Elijah? | Matthew | Emmaus | 108617 | ||
schimc, John came "in the spirit and power of Elijah." Luke 1:17. Jesus sees this as the fullfillment of the prophecy of Malichi 3:1, 23-24. See Matt 3:3, Isaiah 40:3, Matt 17:10-12. In John 1:21, John himself says he is not Elijah, which leaves only "the spirit and power of Elijah" as the correct understanding. Emmaus |
