Subject: Inspired by God? |
Bible Note: Greetings Schimc! No problem my friend! I had already mentioned the number one reason for critics in my last post. One additional one that I would add is that too many times we mistake our assumptions for what the text actually says. Another brother wrote me earlier about Matthew saying 'come in' and see. Yet, the text doesn't actually say 'come in', it only says 'come'. It is little assumptions like these which cause many of our problems with the text. As far as Peter goes, apparently Jesus appeared to him prior to the rest of the disciples, but none of the Gospels actually record this event. Again, this would not qualify as a 'contradiction', since no one actually said that Jesus did not appear to Peter before the rest of the disciple. Now, we do know that 1 Cor. 15:5 actually states the Jesus did appear to Peter prior to the rest of the 12, and we do know that Luke certainly alludes to it based upon the comments of those from on the road to Emmaus. So, I have no problem with simply acknowledging that this is one event which is not recorded. After all, John himself said that it would take the entire world to hold every book which could be written concerning all the things Jesus said and did! :-) Anyway, you and your brother are in my prayers. I pray that God will strenghten your faith in this coming year. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
