1 | Bible to be taken literally? | Matthew | Aniset | 106249
The bible is not all literal. There are also symbloic parts. When Jesus said that all the old laws were to remain in effect (Matt 5:18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.") He was saying that laws would not be changed until it has fulfilled it's purpose. Notice that there are other laws that had also been changed. 1 was on divorce. Matthew 19:7-9. |

3 | Bible to be taken literally? | Matthew | Morant61 | 106273
Greetings Searcher! May I respectfully disagree with you my friend? Mt. 5:18 says, "I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." The 'until' clause which modifies 'will not disappear' is the last one - 'until everying is accomplished'. The first 'until' clause modifies the entire verse - i.e. - the following is true until heaven and earth disappear. But, as I see it, the last clause is the one which tells when the 'letters' will disappear. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

From a geek whiz (maybe) to a Greek whiz (way more than me, at least) - you may always disagree with me - correct me. So my question is when will (did) the smallest letter ... disappear from the Law? Searcher |
