1 | What are the real 12 tribes of Israel? | Joshua | T'oma | 145411
No. Dan and Reuben were not replaced by Ephraim and Manassah. When the Hebrews entered into the promised land, Reuben help the Hebrews conquer Palestine. Their families stayed on the east side of the Jordan, as did half of Manassah and the tribe of Gad. Dan, although they had trouble gaining possession of their "inheritance", they did settle what is still known today as Joppa. T'oma |

3 | Doesn't that make it 14 tribes not 12? | Joshua | JCrichton | 145420
Hi, Chusarcik! I have posted on the 13 tribes: 12 sons, one whose name is removed and his 2 sons inserted in his stead... yet the tribe of Levi was separated by God and their main concern would be dealing with the Temple (then, tent) and all matters of worship; hence, Levi would not take part of the distribution of the land, nor of the daily activities of commerse, etc...; there would then have been only 11 tribes... this, of course, was known to God who granted Joseph's two Children (Ephraim and Manasseh) a position as part of the 12 Tribes... As Joseph and Ephraim are interchanged (Revelation 7:1-8), the one discrepancy I find is that Dan is left out and Levi is reinstated as part of the Twelve! I forget where it is found exactly... but was there not a Scriptural passage speaking on how Dan lost their land and they went to live with one of the other tribes?... Perhaps their failure to uphold the command to keep the land appointed to them caused them to be removed from the final listing (Revelation 7). God Bless! Angel |

Angel, So you believe there are 13 tribes? Wouldn't that mess up other indications in the Bible that there are only 12 tribes?
5 | Doesn't your answer make it 13 tribes? | Joshua | greentwiga | 145464
The twelve tribes of Numbers two are Judah,Issachar, Zebulun, Reuben, Simeon, Gad, Ephraim, Manasseh, Benjamin, Dan, Asher, and Naphtali. In Numbers 3:6, Levi is called a tribe. By my count, that is thirteen tribes. There were twelve sons, but Joseph became two tribes through his two sons. Some accountings of the tribes do not consider Levi because of His special status and not possessing land.

Manassah was divided in half so the half living in gilead and the half tribe living north of Jerusalem were each occassionally referred to as the half tribe. In Numbers two, where does it say half tribe?
