1 | How is the Holy spirit given to you | Acts 2:38 | armond888 | 231526
Well Searcher thanks. My understanding can be summarized as the following; Once I believed I repented because before then I had no knowledge that I even needed to repent. One day, now I know it was the Spirit drawing me, I decided to start reading the Bible. Like most homes I had a Bible but never read it. I began reading the Bible daily. One day out loud I confessed Jesus as Lord what was remarkable is that I was alone in the room so why did I make my confession out loud, again the Spirit was leading me. It was sometime later that I found out through reading the Bible. that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your Heart that God has raised Him from the dead you shall be saved. I was then water baptised and then I was filled with the Holy Spirit. I was saved at home over 25 years ago never attended Church as a Child. I was then baptised at a church recommended by a friend. I took off work on Tuesday July 17th,1984 in order to get baptised. The following Sunday I woke up thinking I need to go to church now because I am a Christian now. I went to the church where I was baptised in water the previous Tuesday. While listening to the message I was suddenly filled with the Holy Spirit. I was totally brand new after this experience. My Holy Spirit infilling lasted at least an hour and a half, and I have been serving God since that Day. My understanding of the Bible comes through the person of the Holy Spirit. He will literally lead you and guide you into all truth. I did not get saved by following any Bible interpretation methods.. Not at all. I was saved throught the Lord God revealing Himself to me. It is through the Spirit of GOD that we get wisdom and understanding and when that happens all debates are ended. Matt 16:13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" Matt 16:14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." Matt 16:15 He *said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Matt 16:16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Matt 16:17 And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. Lastly if the Lord, as you witness for Him, is not confirming His Word through signs and wonders I question your ministry call. |

BradK We found something we agree on, the discussion is over. I never thought I was being dishonest ? Thanks for letting me know. No argument here just presenting a position that differs from yours. |

5 | How is the Holy spirit given to you | Acts 2:38 | armond888 | 231521
BradK Just want to make a few simple statements regarding your post. You have not read my post Properly. I never said Baptism was a prereqiusite for repentance. I said the exact opposite as represented by Acts 2:38 or 37? - All I did was copy paste the verse. Regarding using other scriptures, Romans for example. Guess i could have but I thought the one's I referenced were adequate since the Bible does not contradict itself. And I could ask you why did you not use Acts or the Gospels????Correction is a beautiful thing I appreciate your efforts although in this case I failed to see your point of view. I could easily go through the other letters by Paul with you to further prove my point but I see no profit in that exercise. I will stick with "Repent everyone and be baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus and you shall recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit." I know, it comes out of a narrative and therefore it does not count. |

6 | How is the Holy spirit given to you | Acts 2:38 | armond888 | 231519
BradK - Your statement concerning the Book of Acts is a narrative not intended for doctrine??? Perhaps you should consider the following: 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; Seem to me that you are picking and choosing what is relevent or not in the Bible. |

7 | How is the Holy spirit given to you | Acts 2:38 | armond888 | 231517
I see nothing in your explaination that changes my understanding. I find that the Amplified Bible provides a proper translation. Matt 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee and escape from the wrath and indignation [of God against disobedience] that is coming? Matt 3:8 Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart]; |

8 | How is the Holy spirit given to you | Acts 2:38 | armond888 | 231516
Excuse any typos I did not proof We continue to disagree respectfully as you say. Men asked what do they need to do in order to be saved and the Peter under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit said Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now why did Peter not leave out Baptism. Why did Peter not just say believe only as you claim. Because believing on Jesus is being repentent and includes water baptism. Repentence and water Baptism prepares the way for salvation. This is why John the Baptist declares He is preparing the way for the LORD. How was John preparing, through water baptism after realized repentence. No reprentance no baptism. Matt 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee and escape from the wrath and indignation [of God against disobedience] that is coming? Matt 3:8 Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart]; The first thing Jesus did was get water baptised and then the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus. Guess someone should have told the Lord the water part was not neccessary. Or that water baptism can be held off for a later time because it really is unnecessary.. Jesus also told Nicodemus we must be born of the water and the spirit in order to become Born Again. Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Another example. Acts 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him Acts 8:36 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" Acts 8:37 [And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] Acts 8:38 And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water |

9 | How is the Holy spirit given to you | Acts 2:38 | armond888 | 231509
Correction, The Bible list Baptism (Baptism of Repentence) as a requirement for receiving the Holy Spirit. This answer was not something I found just convenient to say, it is based on scripture. You may want to qualify your answer with a scriture or two as well.
10 | Died and with Christ, Where? | 2 Corinthians | armond888 | 231470
That sounds very much nonsensical to me. It is like saying you are living in my home but not in my neighborhood, sounds crazy. Acts 7:56 and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened up and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." Think about this; If Jesus is standing nect to God in Heaven and we are in Jesus how can we NOT be in heaven too. Eph 2:6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, |

11 | How is the Holy spirit given to you | Acts 2:38 | armond888 | 231469
Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Matt 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee and escape from the wrath and indignation [of God against disobedience] that is coming? Matt 3:8 Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart]; There must first be demonstrated repentance then water baptism snf you SHALL then received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Notice what John the Baptist said to those coming for baptism without showing evidence of reprentence first. |

13 | Can we determine thr truth of the matter | 1 John 1:8 | armond888 | 228773
Ok Doc, thanks brother you went into more detail than I needed, my question was concerning your role, you did not answer the question, but that's cool I understand.
14 | Can we determine thr truth of the matter | 1 John 1:8 | armond888 | 228771
Oh well.. this is getting humorous. Sure Doc I will do my best to adhere to the host's intent for the site. I would say I am sorry, but about what, writing what I think or would it be by not writing what others think. But hey it's all good we all get to share. Now regarding Biblical counseling, you got a lot of weeding out to do. This may be one of those times when text does not adequately rely the full meaning and intention of the writer??? Maybe, maybe not. Question Doc, are you a staff member or hold a position of authority on the forum??? Just asking??
15 | Can we determine thr truth of the matter | 1 John 1:8 | armond888 | 228767
Doc In all due respect to all who present here I still maintain my point of view. This forum is not unlike any public venue where opinions are expressed. And, I disagree with your conclusion that pride is a non issue when posters remain anonymous. The spirit of pride desires to be fed at any opportunity even for the sole purpose of self gratification. I am very much aware like most people in today's information age that text only is limited in terms of communication. Also, I find nothing wrong with revealing related things about myself in regards to postings,it does not detract from any eternal purpose unless it does not line up with scripture. I would bet my post regarding pride gave pause for self examination for some. |

16 | Can we determine thr truth of the matter | 1 John 1:8 | armond888 | 228764
There is great discussion on this forum on many Bible subjects and I love reading some of the feedback. I have been using studybibleforum since 2002 it is a good online reference. I do think however that many of the answers, notes, questions that come forth on this site seem competitive in nature. It seems that some are competing to see who is the smartest, has the most Bible knowledge or something. This behavior is indeed carnal in nature and has it's root in worthless worldly pride. GOD resist the proud but gives grace to the humble. Serving GOD is not an intellectual pursuit, it is a pursuit of love. 1 Cor 1:26 For [simply] consider your own call, brethren; not many [of you were considered to be] wise according to human estimates and standards, not many influential and powerful, not many of high and noble birth. 1 Cor 1:27 [No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. 1 Cor 1:28 And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn and insignificant and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are, 1 Cor 1:29 So that no mortal man should [have pretense for glorying and] boast in the presence of God. |

17 | Can we determine thr truth of the matter | 1 John 1:8 | armond888 | 228763
BradK , Yes Eph 1:17, also reference Matt 16:17 Then Jesus answered him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are you, Simon Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood [men] have not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven. When GOD tells you something the debate is over period. And finally consider what the Bible tells us concerning prophecy in the verse below, I believe this scripture does not only refer to prophecy but to the entire Holy Spirit inspired Word of GOD as documented in the inerrant and infallible Holy Bible. 2 Pet 1:20[Yet] first [you must] understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is [a matter] of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving). The opinions of men are meaningless - Pet 1:21 For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it [to do so--it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit. |

18 | Can we determine thr truth of the matter | 1 John 1:8 | armond888 | 228757
Wow, certainly shows our enthusiastic approach to scripture. I find scripture is best understood through the agency of the Holy Spirit. Even how the Spirit of the LORD communicates truth comes under great debate, this of course is nothing new. Jesus Himself said the Holy Spirit would lead us and guide us into all truth and yet there are numerous opinions regarding the truth more numerous to count even within the "Church", depending on our background. I find the biggest deterrent to understanding the Bible is the intermingling of secular thinking in the reasoning process of many Christians. Here is my kicker on this topic and others, real truth is based on revelation knowledge, the same way we receive salvation. Without revelation knowledge everything is up for debate with revelation knowledge nothing is up for debate. Matt 11:25 At that time Jesus began to say, I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth [and I acknowledge openly and joyfully to Your honor], that You have hidden these things from the wise and clever and learned, and revealed them to babies [to the childish, untaught, and unskilled].By the way GOD is not looking for perfection in our behavior, God is expecting us to serve HIM through acts of service and not living a lifestyle of sin, this is NOT perfection. We may stumble on occasion but since we are dead to sin it will be a rare occurrence. Rom 8:5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. |

19 | good things come to those who wait | 2 Tim 2:15 | armond888 | 220080
Here is a little note to add , All good things do not necessarily come to those who wait.. But the waiting must be on the LORD.. The text does not say that all good will occur but that you will be renewed.. which may not be all good but still very good.. Is 40:31 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Just one more scripture...concerning good..and all things consider this : Rom 8:28 We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. |

20 | Why Sunday? | 1 Cor 16:2 | armond888 | 193564
One more thing.. GOD really no longer commands us what day to worship it is more an issue of preference.. He is more concerned that we worship HIM in our lifestyle.. Rom 14:5 One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. |
