761 | Priest had no father or mother | Heb 7:3 | skccab | 194320
Doc, This is just a curiosity question that you might be able to answer. I have heard that there is a specific DNA bar/particle (not sure what it's called) that is specific to the Aaronic line that is evident even today, that one either is or is not of the priestly line. A website called something like The Tribe is supposed to have the info, but the one website that I can find doesn't seem to be the correct one. Do you know anything about this or is it just bunk? I thought it was fascinating (and just like our God) if that line is supposed to be forever. Shalom Cheri |

762 | Priest had no father or mother | Heb 7:3 | skccab | 194325
Doc, Thank you for answering so quickly! Yes, I knew that about adoption and that actually raised a few questions with me. For sometimes the adopted one would take the place of the actual firstborn (I've heard). But I just realized one point that I left out, it's a marker (that's the word I couldn't think of before - old age don't you know?) that's peculiar to the Aaronic line (the Cohen's, Cohn's, etc.). It's not so much that I'm interested (at this point) in human ancestry, I just think that if it's true about the Aaronic line having a genetic anomoly (spell??) that it's utterly fascinating. But I will check out the website you cited. It might help, thanks. Much love Cheri |

763 | Today, Christians are Israel | Heb 8:8 | skccab | 193684
Doc, Excellent!! Rom. 8:6-8 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; 7) nor are they all children because they are Abraham's descendants, but "Through Isaac your descendants will be named." 8) That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants. Please, Doc, do share those scriptures, I would love to read them. There are a few that I know of but right now they escape me (I've been up for 24hrs now). Shalom Cheri |

764 | christians practicing good church attend | Heb 10:25 | skccab | 202148
Dear Teddy, You said "I do not go because I have to go. I go because I want to go. Otherwise I would not go!" Let me reply by quoting (by whom I cannot remember) - "Some things are commanded because they are RIGHT, and some thing are right because they are COMMANDED." What "we" want to do or don't want to do does not fall into the equation. :-) Cheri |

Hi Teddy, You're absolutely right about the Sabbath and the keeping of it holy. (I am a Sabbath observer.) I was actually referring to the statement in Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Is that not a command? (I'm asking seriously.) I know it doesn't mean that you are to be with your group/church EVERY time they get together - life happens sometimes to keep you away. But isn't that a command not to try to stand alone? Still learning :-) (and making mistakes!!) Cheri |

766 | Scripture alone? | James 1:5 | skccab | 191937
Parable, Good afternoon. I've started this reply to your request for scripture only several times, only to delete them, but here goes. For many people that find their way to this forum it is because they have a question. If they have a question about the Word and are using this forum then they have access to the very same scripture(s) that you are requestimg to be used in answer to their questions. This apparently isn't enough, or they would not be asking the question. When the Lord was asked questions by those around Him, He had the scriptures too, but He didn't constantly answer 'It is written in Exodus or Leviticus...', He answered the questions consistent to what was written but in a way that could be understood and applied. We can either be so spiritual and Biblically knowledgeable that we are of no earthly good to anyone or we can do our best to follow the lead of our King and attempt to open up the Scriptures to those who are having trouble understanding. Thanks for listening :-) Cheri |

OK Parable, Let's see, here's a start, maybe, if I understood the request? Luk 12:19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. Luk 12:21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. Hag 1:6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Job 24:13 They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof. Job 24:14 The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief. Job 24:15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face. Job 24:16 In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light. Job 24:17 For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death. Cheri |

771 | Scripture alone? | James 1:5 | skccab | 191990
Parable, For me, these next verses say it all where living godly is concerned: Php 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Php 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Php 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. Php 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Php 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. Cheri |

772 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211034
Pete, We are also told to abide by the laws of our land. So unless I was on an island with only those who choose to live that way, I would have to say that my city, state, and national law frowns on individuals taking that particular law into their own hands. There will be a day when we once again will live under God's theocracy, and He probably won't change that law (that's just my opinion) but until then, you'd best just walk away from that particular brother :o) Shalom Cheri |

773 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211041
Pete, Is there someone you're really wanting to kill? If so, please speak with your pastor about your problem. If not, then why are you carrying on so? The Old Testament is wonderful to read. But in some areas, you must remember the laws were given to a people that were a nation unto themselves, whether in the wilderness or in their own land. Their ONLY law was God, nothing and no one else. For the most part, Pete, man's laws are not that much different from God's. And where they are a bit different, I'm not too terribly concerned about whether or not someone leading me astray to another god will be killed or not - ain't no body gonna be leading this King's kid astray, so all can live. :o) Maybe it would be better if you get to KNOW your Lord before delving into the Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible). It can be confusing. :o) Cheri |

774 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211044
Pete, I meant to add that maybe it would be better to read the New Testament first, Matthew is great, John is just....wonderful isn't a good enough word for it, but it will have to do. Acts, oh golly, you'll cry when you read the last chapter cos you want it to go on and on and on. Have fun Cheri |

776 | Kill your brother and drink strong drink | James 2:10 | skccab | 211055
Pete, I left that part out on purpose, thinking you would probably see your error. Since you didn't, here it is. First off, you missed the qualifying portion - too far. Deut. 14:24 states "...if the way be too long...; or if the place be too far..." Seeing as how there is virtually a church most anywhere nowadays, and if you're really in the boondocks, all that is needed is a phone call - there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for not getting your tithes and offerings to where they are supposed to go. Sorry, to blow that one down for you. :o) Cheri |

Pete, I left that part out on purpose, thinking you would probably see your error. Since you didn't, here it is. You seem to have missed the qualifying portion of the verse. Deut. 14:24 states "...if the way be too long...; or if the place be too far..." Now, it goes without saying that we cannot take our tithes (there at at least 3 of them) or our free-will offerings to the temple, so we'll work with what we do have - virtually a church per every other intersection nowadays (most places, at least 1 within any given mile), but, even if you're really waaaaaay in the boondocks, all that is needed is a phone call, or a mail courier - there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for not getting your tithes and offerings to where they are supposed to go. Sorry, to blow that one down for you. :o( Seriously, read the New Testament first. Once you have read the Gospels and letters, you'll be able to read the front portion of the book with much better understanding - your Lord and Savior is all over the Hebrew scriptures. But if you don't know Him, you won't recognize Him any better than did the majority of Israelites of His day. Have fun learning about our King Who is soon coming Cheri |

Thank you MJH!! I really liked that!! I asked, realizing, unless I'd missed something, that the answers would be mostly speculation - but you managed to do both. The fact that Abraham was still childless was known, and yet, I managed to not make the connection of praying for another to get what he himself wanted so badly!! So, again, Thank You!! (Isn't it grand, that when we need them, thru SBF we have 2 or more pairs of eyes and 2 or more brains?) Shalom Cheri |

780 | "living stone" references count | 1 Peter | skccab | 211458
Shalom St Simon, welcome to the Forum! Under the KJV translation, I found only these 2: 2Co 3:3 Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. 1Pe 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, Under other translations, there may be more. Hope this helps Cheri |
