381 | Which Enemies Could Israel Marry? | Deut 21:10 | skccab | 207081
Shalom Bowler, It could also be that some of the battles the spoils were to be God's, like Jericho. Absolutely nothing was to be taken from that city (see what happened to Achan when he took a few items that belonged to God!), and other battles the spoils were open for the taking. All the nations mentioned in chapter 7 were to be completely destroyed (but I don't think that that happened). But the cities spoken of in chapter 21 are also spoken of as being completely destroyed except for the few women that would be taken as wives (that's why God gave them time to mourn, the loss of parents, family, friends, homeland). I don't think that allowance is talking about an Israelite man going off into some gentile country and taking a wife, only the few enemy women taken captive in battle. (There were many instances where the order was to keep alive the virgin girls and young children, and livestock.) Again, my understanding of the passages Like you, still learning, and Loving It!!! 382 | Which Enemies Could Israel Marry? | Deut 21:10 | skccab | 207077
Shalom Bowler, I have failed to welcome you to the Forum, I have enjoyed following your questions and answers. Just an idea about the difference between Dt 7 and 10. In chapter 7 Moses give the names of seven particular peoples and the reason why not to marry - they were greater than Israel. Although it's not stated in the Bible, could his orders in chapter 10 just be understood by those people involved that the seven previously named were out of the running? were not included in the allowances elsewhere? :-) Cheri |

383 | Which Enemies Could Israel Marry? | Deut 21:10 | skccab | 207076
Shalom John, Dt. 21:10-13 is talking about an enemy female. Verse 13 says she is to remove the clothing of her captivity (the women would dress nicely in hopes of not being killed) and put on clothing of mourning and mourn her family for a month in the warrior's home. If the warrior changed his mind after the month was up, he could not degrade nor treat her brutally nor sell her; she was to be set free to live in the camp as her "home town" and family had been destroyed and she had been humbled. I think it's understood that she would be obliged to worship the God of Israel who had saved her alive. (I actually marvelled over these instructions - what a wonderful God we serve. He shows concern and compassion even on His enemies!! He gives these women time to mourn their losses before having to face being married to someone who had been an enemy! Also this would give the warrior a chance to see her at her worst - shaven head, short nails, clothes of mourning, red eyes, etc., and then the warrior must treat her gently if he changes his mind. Wow!!) Just a thought along the lines of not marrying the pagans - I believe that was intended that they not go into areas that are alive and well and marry; but this circumstance is talking about a situation where all but the few women that would be marrying the warriors would be killed, so it would be relatively easy to assimilate these women into their religious beliefs. If I've misunderstood your reply, please forgive. This is just my 2cents worth :-) Cheri |

384 | Careful Bible Study -- Not Mysticism | Jer 23:16 | skccab | 206931
Dear Quvmoh It was 2 little words that got you into trouble. So What? 'So what is this saying to you, to me'...would have taken the rudeness out of the question; would have been a bonefide question. 'So What?' is something asked by an insolent disobedient disrespectful child. (And I'm sure that child would have faced severe rebuke from his/her parents!) That is why everyone is so upset. Doc did not deserve that response from you or anyone else. Cheri |

Shalom WOS Thank you for your response, I do understand about the natural and wild branches. But that one verse in particular (22 I believe) talks about being cut off if one doesn't stay in the faith. "Cut off" when used in OT almost always is one of two things - either physical, literal death sentence or being removed from Israel. So, doesn't that mean that the "osas" view is faulty? Either you are a part of the tree or you are not (and in these verses we are talking about people (gentiles) that have at one time believed and then left the faith, right?). Not arguing with you, WOS, just trying to understand - once saved, always saved or no. Even M. Henry says the same thing, as I read it - "... That which ruined them was unbelief, and by faith thou standest; therefore thou hast no faster hold than they had, thou standest on no firmer foundation than they did...that is, continue in a dependence upon and compliance with the free grace of God..." Shalom all, I haven't really thought about the "once saved, always saved" theme too much, cos my question is why would one want to be unsaved? But what do we do with the warning in Rom. 11:17-22? Especially verse 22. That's to the wild branches isn't it? Cheri |

389 | How Far Are We To Be Tolerant? | Eph 4:2 | skccab | 206453
Shalom bowler, Just thought I'd tell you something a pastor shared with me once about other people's faults. He said: Many people will try to admonish you to overlook the fault. But that is not really an easy thing to do for a long period of time. I would suggest instead of overlooking, you look over that person. And as you look over that person, you'll see the hand of God on that person's head, covering him, protecting him, loving him. And if that person's little faults are not a problem to the Almighty, then just who are we to be so picky? I've never forgotten that. And I spend an awful lot of time looking over people!! :-) Cheri |

Shalom Gerald, I agree with you about letting scripture interpret scripture. Check out Num. 5:11-31, paying attention to verses 17 and 23 in particular. This may shed some light on Messiah and the dirt. Cheri |

391 | Is the world ending in 2012. | Rev 16:8 | skccab | 206341
Shalom y'all I'm thinking that the "season" mentioned in Mt. 24 is telling us a specific season. Messiah fulfilled the first 4 biblical feasts right on time (Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, Feast of Weeks and Shavuot). I believe He will continue the pattern, as all the feasts were a shadow or figure of Messiah. The year? Unknown. The season He spoke of, I believe is Sukkot, the last of the biblical feasts. And He will fulfill the other 2 (Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur) and Sukkot just as He did the first 4, fully and right on time. Just my 2cents Cheri |

Shalom Albert, I noticed that you got some other answers, more detailed than mine, especially from Val, that hit the nail on the head. The fat belonged to God. I don't think you missed anything in the Torah's directions. These particular priests were just not God's ideal. They were out for their own, and phooy on everything else including God's directions. Shalom remorse2 Verse 12 of that chapter tells you that they (Eli's sons) were corrupt and did not know the Lord. I don't think that their procedure was customary, that is why the worshippers would object (as in verse 16). My 2cents worth Cheri |

Jim, I'm aware of the scripture about the confusing of the languages but are you not talking about a genetic line outside of Adam's? It sure sounds like you are and I have not seen that backed up with scripture references. If you did so, please pardon me and would you give it again as I missed it? Cheri |
