1241 | How does Romans 8:38-39 fit in with Heb | Heb 6:4 | prayon | 24968
The author of Hebrews was refering to the pagans who investigated Christianity and then went back to the paganism from which they came. Some Jewish Christians did the same thing and returned to Judism. By turning away from God at the most knowledgeable time in their lives, they cut themselves off from God's forgiveness. However, even when you turn away from God He will never turn away from you. Nothing can stop His constant presence with us.
1242 | Tabernacle/Sacrificial Animals? | Heb 8:5 | prayon | 35671
Greetings Charis! The only information on that that I can find is related to the fellowship or peace offering. In this offering all that was burnt was the kidneys, tge appendage fo the liver which shall be removed with the kidneys and the fatthat covers and surrounds the entrails. The rest of the animal was to be eaten by the worshipper, his family and his friends in a fellowship meal. (Lev 7:16). I will see if I can find the answer to answer your question in a broader sense. prayon
1243 | details of curtain in temple splitting | Heb 9:1 | prayon | 11282
Hebrews chapter 9 describes the curtain as the symbolic barrier between God and humanity, created by humanity's sin. Sinful ones are not allowed in the presence of God. Once a year the priests entered with the veil, his symbolic protection was the blood of the lamb sacrificed in substitution for sinners (9:22). When Christ died he became the sacrificial lamb. He substituted for every believer in suffering the wages of sin which is death. Jesus death and the torn curtain have a two-fold purpose. 1) The ceremonies of were all fulfilled at the death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ. This was later confirmed by the destruction of the temple in 70 AD. Because sacrifices were only permitted to be offered in the temple, all Jewish animal sacrifices ceased after 70 AD. They should of stopped with the torn curtain. At the cross Christ became the high priest bearing blood. 2) The torn curtain symbolizes that there is nothing between God and the believer. God's presence is open to us whereas before it was only open to the priest. We can now experience complete oneness with God. I might add the curtain was 20 feet by 60 feet by 4 inches thick. It took 300 priests to move the curtain. The curtain was also completely torn - nothing stands between us and God, not even a thread. We have total access to Him. The curtain was repaired by the priests because they thought the earthquake had caused it to tear. It is also interesting that the curtain ripped at the time of the evening sacrifice. Some priests became believers because of the curtain. |

1244 | Was the temple curtain repaired? | Heb 9:1 | prayon | 152255
Greetings Songbird. I must apologise - I am moving and all my reference material is packed. I believe that the priests attempted to fix the curtain but never did. If they had there would of been a curtain between us and God but there is not. As I said I have no scriptural back-up for that at this time. prayon

1246 | Was the temple curtain repaired? | Heb 9:1 | prayon | 152383
Doc, that is an interesting point about them not wanting the curtain in disrepair, but Idon't think they would or could of trird to hide thefact that something happened considering the disappearance of the sun and the earthquake. prayon
1247 | why blood for sin-offering? | Heb 9:22 | prayon | 59386
Greetings turtlesrcool,The blood is an important part of the sacrifice becuse the life of the flesh is the blood. Blood carries life sustaining elements to all parts of the body; therefore it represents the essence of life. In contrast, the shedding of blood represents the shedding of life. Since blood contains the life, blood is sacred to God. Shed blood from a substitute atones for or covers the sinner, who is then allowed to live. In the OT when a sacrifice was given the worshiper was to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, which would then be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. Putting one's hands on the head of the animal was a smbolic way of transferring sin or the guilt of sin to the animal which was then killed on the sinner's behalf. Hope this helps, prayon |

1248 | important | Heb 10:24 | prayon | 144746
Greetings 9-1-1, It is important to go to church because God has instructed us to. Heb 10:25a says "We should not stop gathering together with other believers, as some of you are doing". Believers gather together at church. Rom 10:14 says "But how can people call on him if they have not believed in him? How can they believe in him if they have not heard his message? How can they hear if no one tells the Good News?". You hear his message by going to church to hear the Word. prayon |

Greetings, We can pray for someone and their needs without being specific because God knows exactly what the exact problems/needs. In the case of this woman the prayer could of been "Lord, we pray that you will supply _____'s needs. Give her strenghth and the courage to stand strong Father through the trials she is now facing......" prayon

1252 | What does this verse mean? | Heb 10:26 | prayon | 2035
I believe that it tells us that if you are made aware that some action you do is a sin but choose to continuously ignore the teaching you are rejecting Christ and God's most precious gift. There is but one way to salvation and that is through Jesus Christ. He is the only way to forgiveness and eternal life. When you turn your back on Him there only remains the "fearful prospect of judgement and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries" (Hebrews 10:27). One way this can be applied today is if you are in a religion that does not believe in Jesus Christ and you reject the truth, and choose to stay where you are at, you have closed the only door to salvation there is.
1253 | justification by faith | Heb 10:38 | prayon | 125603
Greetings shael, This is part of a quote from Hab 2:3 - "Hab 2:4 "Look at the proud person. He is not right in himself. But the righteous person will live because of his faithfulness. It probably refers to the same thing. . The sense is, that a persevering confidence or belief in the Lord will preserve us amidst all the trials and calamities to which we are exposed. (Barnes notes on the Bible) Hope this helps. prayon |

1254 | How were ppl saved before Jesus came? | Heb 11:6 | prayon | 49218
Greetings Amrit, To be forgiven for sin there must be a blood sacrifice. Before Jesus, this involved sacrificing an animal such as a ram, sheep, dove, ect. Leviticus 1-5 goes into each of the 5 different types of offerings in detail. Today is no different, there must also be a blood offering to be forgiven for sins. The blood of Jesus Christ was our sin offering. He sacrificed Himself so that we may be saved, putting an end to animal sacrifices. All through history since Adam there have been people who have sinned and have not offered a blood sacrifice. These people have gone to hell. prayon |

1255 | How were ppl saved before Jesus came? | Heb 11:6 | prayon | 49233
Thank you for your reply Chris pointing out the error in my answer. You are totally right when you stated that animal sacrifices could not take away the sin, they could only provide a temporary way to deal with sin until Jesus came to deal with it permanently. But God did forgive them by faith when they made their sacrifices. This practice looked forward to Christ's perfect sacrifice. prayon

1257 | Mose's private life vs. public ministry | Heb 11:24 | prayon | 41520
Greetings edavis, There are so many things that prepared him for his ministry that they can't be all mentioned. Moses while living in Egypt was a proud man. He had to learn humility for his ministry. He learned this when he submitted to being a sheppherd under Reuel who's name was later changed to Jethro. You must understand here that to an Egyptian shepherds were the lowest of the low. The very bottom of the totem pole. Moses did this for 40 years. He had to learn to be a man of prayer. He started to learn this lesson when he ran from the pharaoh after murdering the guard. He was alone in the desert with no where to turn except to God. There is a time lapse between verses 10 and 11 of Exodus 2 of about 40 years during the time which Moses grew up. We know that during this time Moses was being educated "in all the wisdom of the Egyptians", (Acts 7:22). His early education would of included mathematics, geometry, trigonometry and the ability to measure and lay our land. He would of learned to read and write and understand mechanics. Being a member of the Pharaohs family he would of also had military training. The most important lesson of all though is what he learned in his first home from a slave mother. He received his knowledge of the ways of Isreal and was told about the lives of the patriarchs. Most assuredly he learned his strong faith from her. We know of his faith because he turned his back on all that Egypt had to offer including wealth and nobility in order to identify with God's purposes for his people in history. He did this at the time he murdered the guard who was abusing an Isrealite. This was not the act of an impetuous young man but a 40 year old who had much wealth and power. He knew what this act would cost him. Through this incident Moses (and we are taught many things by God including: 1. Apart from God we can do nothing no matter how talented and wise we think we are. 2. We learn what terrible things we are capable of doing if we persist in our plans and methods instead of waiting on God. 3. The ends do not justify the means. No matter how noble our desires or how right our objectives it is absolutely necessary that we accomplish them in God's way and not our own. 4. God is able to work in spite of our failures. I hope this helps you some. prayon |

1260 | When is it too late to repent? | Heb 12:17 | prayon | 11531
The words "place of repentance" mean zan opportunity to repair by repenting. He found no way to reverse repentance what he had done. The penalty could not be reversed in the nature of the case. This is clear from Issac's words in Gen 27:33. (from word studies in the New Testament). It is never too late to repent, it can be however to late to undo the consequences of not repenting earlier. prayon |
