1001 | Can one be saved by just repenting alone | Acts 16:1 | prayon | 60452
Greetings gsuslentme, 1John 1:9 tells us that if we confess our sins, He who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness. Romans 10:9 again tells us "if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved!" None of us deserve His grace and mercy, we are all sinners, and any one sin is just as bad as any other sin. For example the sin of lying is just as bad as the sin of murder. I don't know what your "tremendous" sin is but I can assure you that in God's eyes it is no worse than mine. So no matter what your "tremendous" sin our God is a merciful and gracious God and if you ask He will forgive. We are so blessed that He does not deal with us according to our sins nor repay us for our iniquities (v10). When we ask Him for forgiveness for our sins He tells us in Psa 103:12 that he will remove our transgressions from us as far as the east is from the west, and then in Heb 8:12 He tells us that He will remember our sins no more. When you ask for forgiveness for your sins with Jesus it is as if they had never taken place. They have been totally wiped away. Eph 2:8 tells us that by grace we have been saved through faith, and this is not our own doing; it is a gift from God. In John 3:16 He give us the promise that who ever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.So the answer to your question is Yes. All you do is ask for God's forgiveness and proclaim that you believe and you don't move on to be a Christian - you ARE a Christian! If you want to be forgiven and turn you life to God I ask you to say this prayer "Oh, God, I know I am a sinner. Right now I repent and ask for forgivenness for all my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, rose from the grave, and is alive forever. I open the door to my heart and life and I receive Jesus Christ as my Savior. I want to follow Him as Lord of my life. Thank you for saving me. Amen" It is that simple. As for your question about baptism. Getting baptized does not save one's life. You are only saved when you pray a prayer similar to the one above. Baptism is a physical act that one can (and should) do. It symbolizes the cleansing away of the sins. The water symbolizes washing away the "dirtiness of sin". If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask. May God Bless you in the journey you are about to begin. prayon |

1002 | What is a tent-maker? | Acts 18:3 | prayon | 7125
Just to add a note - Tent making was a trade that was highly esteemed and poorly paid. Also, in relation to Paul, according to Eermans Bible Dictionary it is also probable that it was also used of leatherworkers and therefore, that Paul could of been a leatherworker. It also added that older commentaries suggest that Paul was a weaver of goat's hair, a trade associated with Cilicia, the apostles home, but Paul probably learned his trade in Jerusalem. |

1006 | The significance of Jesus' Baprism? | Acts 19:4 | prayon | 64915
Greetings danielf and welcome to the forum! There were several reasons for Christ's baptism. First, it was His first identification with us as sinners. Although he had no sin, He took our sins upon Himself on the cross. In addition, it was a symbolism of His death. The baptism was the first thing that pointed to His death on the cross. Next, It marked the change from His private life to His public ministry. Third, it was annointing for service. As you suspected it did have something to do with the OT practice of priests being annointed with oil before beginning their priesthood. When the priests were annointed with oil it was a symbol of the Holy Spirit being given to them in a special way. Christ's baptism was His annointing of the Holy Spirit. Although He was filled with the Holy Spirit since birth, it provided a special annointing for His public ministry. The Holy Spirit must have also imparted a special joy to Jesus bringing an unspeakable consciousness of His nearness to God and God's pleasure in Him. The baptism also proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah. The dove decended upon Him from heaven and remained there and a voice declared from heaven "This is my Son, the beloved, with whom I am well pleased". It also fulfilled OT prophecy, see Is 11.2. Hope this helps. prayon |

1007 | Why couldn't the sons of Sceva exorcise? | Acts 19:16 | prayon | 8831
In Ephesus many engaged in exorcism and occult practices to make money. Sceva's son's were included in these. They were impressed by Paul's ability to cast out demons by the power God gave to them. They knew that Pauls power was much more powerful because it came from the Holy Spirit. They wanted this amount of power also. In verse 13 we notice that these exocists saod, "I adjure you through the Jesus that Paul proclaims". They did not believe in Jesus and therefore were not saved. Unless you are saved you can not have the power of the Holy Ghost at work within you. Therefore you do not have God's power to heal. prayon

1009 | what is the book of Romans all about? | Romans | prayon | 13658
Romans is the most comprehensive guide to the structure of the Christian faith. It is the longest and generally regarded as the most important of Paul's letters. It's purpose was to give the Romans a sample of his message before he arrived in Rome. The basis of the book is what to believe and how to believe. Paul clearly sets forth the foundations of the Christian faith and gives clear, practical guidelines for the believer. It includes teaching on sin, salvation, growth, and God's sovereignty. prayon
1010 | How should a Christian view the Old Test | Romans | prayon | 92711
The old testament should also be viewed as a learning tool. It can help us to understand the new covenant we are under. For example, the OT tells us why Jesus had to die the way he died. prayon |

1011 | What does the resurrection prove? | Rom 1:4 | prayon | 6802
The death and resurrection of Jesus proved that it was no new idea that someone came up with but that the old testament promises were to come true. God's raising Jesus from the dead also authenticated the gospel.
1012 | What spiritual gifts could Paul give? | Rom 1:11 | prayon | 6804
Although I could not find any direct answer to your question I believe that Paul was able to share his gift of ministering. He could also encourage them with his gift of faith as well as being encouraged by theirs. He could also help them understand the gift of the Holy Spirit that was given to them. prayon
1013 | Why worship carved images? | Rom 1:23 | prayon | 6803
Idolatry begins when people start rejecting what they know about God. When this happens then they start looking to self as the center of the universe instead of God. They then start making images or gods that are a convienient projection of their own selfishness. Idolaters worship the things made instead of the maker. This could happen because they didn't agree with God's plan or because they think they know better than God. One thing is for sure - it will happen when people allow Satan to put his blinders on them instead of relying totally on God. |

1014 | Is Practicing homosexual Behavior a Sin? | Rom 1:24 | prayon | 75396
Greetings footprints, The bible is the infalible word of God. It states that "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination." If the bible is truly infalible then it is an abomination (which is one of the strongest negative words used in the bible). Those who preach otherwise are calling the bible fallible. Matt 5:17 tells us that Jesus said He did not come to abolish the laws of Moses but to fulfill them. Since Leviticus is found in the first 5 books of the bible known as the Laws of Moses then Lev. 18:22 must be still in effect and therefore any homosexuality is a sin against God. prayon |

1016 | Differences in meaning of Romans 2:12 ? | Rom 2:12 | prayon | 165745
Greetings and welcome to the forum! First let me say that for new Christians I like to recommend the God's Word translation. It is much easier to understand or at least to refer to when you are reading another version and don't understand what you are reading. As for Romas 2:12: John Gills Exposition on the Bible puts it this way " For as many as have sinned without law,.... This is an instance of the strict justice of God, and proves him to be no respecter of persons; for the Gentiles, who were "without law", the written law of Moses, not without the law of nature in their breasts, nor without some civil laws and statutes of their own; inasmuch as they "sinned" against the God of nature, and the law and light of nature". There are many people who have never heard the Word of Jesus and do not know His laws. They shall be judged on more or less their morals and how they conducted themselves. On the other hand those who have had access to the Word and God's laws will be held accountable for their greater knowledge. In other words we are not held accountable for God's laws that we do not know. We will be judged on our hearts. However, if we have heard the law we will be held in higher accountability. prayon |

1017 | Differences in meaning of Romans 2:12 ? | Rom 2:12 | prayon | 165748
That is a difficult question because I am not here to judge whether someone can or is going to heaven. The people judged on their actions are the ones who have never heard the name of Jesus. As for the persons you are asking about - I believe first it would depend on their heart and whether they ever were told about Jesus and declined Him. Did they never read the bible because they never had access to one or never heard of one or did they not read it because they didn't want to. It is hard to believe that someone living now adays were never told about Jesus at sometime in their lives. Also did they know in their heart that the sexual sins they committed were wrong? If so they will be held accountable for them. I do know that if someone ever told them about Jesus and they refused Him in their lives then they can not enter the kingdom of heaven without repenting and turning their lives over to Him. Sorry I can't be of more help. prayon |

1018 | Are gays/lesbians bound for hell? | Rom 5:8 | prayon | 41233
Greetings Marquita, Homosexuality is considered and acceptable practice by many in our worlk today - even by some churches. But society does not set the standard for God's law. Many homosexuals believe that their desires are normal and they have a right to express them but I refer you to the verses below: 1Cor 6:9,10: Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders not thieves not the greedy not drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Lev 18:22: Thou shall not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Lev 20:13: If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. Rom 1:26-28: For this God gave them up to degrading passions, Their woman exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women were consumed with passion for one another....And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done. God's plan for natural sexual relationshops is His ideal for His creation. Unfortunately, sin distorts the natural use of God's gifts. Sin means not only denying God, but also denying the way we are made. Homosexuality is strictly forbidden in scripture (see above scriptures). However, the good news is that God is willing to receive anyone who comes to Him in faith. God can and will forgive sexual sins just as He forgives any other sin. But when we come to Him we must put away our former ways and walk in His ways. I know I am being blunt and may sound uncaring or condescending but I do not mean to. You are a sister in Christ and with that comes my love in Christ. But I feel that a issue is either black or white. There is no gray area. Suppose that a murderer or a thief or a liar, or a swindler or a slanderer believed in God and studied His word religiously and went to church each week but still continued to murder or swindle, or steal, or lie, or slander: do you believe that he should or will inherit the kingdom of God? Luke 13:24-27 tell us that the door to heaven is narrow. It also tells us that Many will cry "Lord, open the door" and you will say 'But we ate and drank with you' and He will reply, 'I tell you, I do not know you. Go away, all you who do evil.' In your question you stated that you were concerned. I believe this to be the Holy Spirit at work in you convicting you of your lifestyle. Please let your prayers be that God show you the truth Himself and that He lead you to the place that He wants you to be at. You will be in my prayers. prayon |

1019 | Are gays/lesbians bound for hell? | Rom 5:8 | prayon | 41269
Greetings again Marquita, You are being very wise in recognizing Satan for what he is - a liar. He indeed will use any scheme or trickery in the book to try and get you to rationalize that you are not sinning. You said that you feel as though you are happy where you are at, and I applaud you for realizing that this is Satan making you think this. God will give you the strength that you need to get away from this lifestyle. Pray hard for that strength Marquita. You can and must resist acting upon the desires to remain in this lifestyle. Consciously avoid places or activities you know will kindle your temptations. This includes breaking the relationship you are in now and putting and keeping a good distance from this person. Never ever under estimate the power of Satan. Get involved in a church that is bible based and knows homosexuality is a sin. Find a professional Christian counselor or pastorial counselor that you can receive help from. What you are in is a type of addiction and you need counseling to break free of this addiction. Continuse to remain scared of Satan. It can be a driving force. I don't know if it will help you or not but I read a book once and whenever I start to sin by telling a little lie or getting back more that I should by a cashier it comes to mind and I easily have the strength to say no to Satan. For me it was a "scared straight" book. The book is called "A Divine Revelation of Hell". If you are interested in it I am sure you can get it from any Christian bookstore. Again my prayers are with you in your battle. You can also e me at my email address that is listed in my profile if you would like. prayon |

1020 | Romans 5 What is Paul saying | Rom 5:13 | prayon | 141367
Greetings tgc, God did hold people accountable for their sins. What Paul was referring to in verse 13 was that before Moses received the laws from God there was no strict accounting of their specific points of their violations. But even without the law death was universal because their can be no forgiveness of sins without the shedding of blood. Hope this helps. prayon |
