NASB | Romans 1:23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 1:23 and exchanged the glory and majesty and excellence of the immortal God for an image [worthless idols] in the shape of mortal man and birds and four-footed animals and reptiles. |
Bible Question: Why would any rational human being worship an image of man or beast? |
Bible Answer: Idolatry begins when people start rejecting what they know about God. When this happens then they start looking to self as the center of the universe instead of God. They then start making images or gods that are a convienient projection of their own selfishness. Idolaters worship the things made instead of the maker. This could happen because they didn't agree with God's plan or because they think they know better than God. One thing is for sure - it will happen when people allow Satan to put his blinders on them instead of relying totally on God. |
