721 | Are there Demons today? | Rev 18:2 | prayon | 52380
Greetings justme, I will do my best to answer some of your questions. The ones I don't maybe someone else can. Demons today are everywhere and very active still in hindering the message and salvation of Christ. When Christ cast the demons into the pigs in Matt 8:28 He only cast them out of two men. He did not cast out the demons of everyone. There were still many active demons in Jesus time as there is today. Many churches today do cast out demons, however some churches today do not even believe that hell is real. Why cast out what is not there. As in many other issues churches today deal with only topics that are agreeable to everyone. Many pastors do not want to step on anyone's toes, possibly because they are more interested in the money that person would donate rather than their eternal salvation or possibly because they do not want to offend anyone. If these pastors preached on demons they would have to identify them and step on peoples toes. Some churches only want to talk about the love of Christ and how wonderful He is - all the good things but none of the bad. There are many different reasons. As Christians today we need to realize that demons are more active now than ever before because they know that their time is growing short. When we meet a demon we need to pray and cast it out of where ever it is. We do this by the power that Christ gave us, (see Matt 9:8; Acts 1:8; 2Tim 1:7; Mark 16:17). To cast out a demon you simply command the demon in the name of Jesus Christ to leave where he is. He must leave at the name of Jesus Christ. I would like to caution you that if there are others present they need to pray also, and if there are children present they must be covered with prayer because when the demon comes out of the one you command him to leave he will be looking for a new home. Christ has given us the power to do these things and we are to do them in Jesus name. He has given us the power, (see Eph 6:10-17). Hope this helps - prayon |

Greetings, Do things fall into place for that change/move? Or have you run into obstacles? Have you asked God to confirm it? If you are unsure that you heard the Lord He will confirm it for you using another means. If it is something that you are supposed to do you will be amazed at how the doors will open for you to make this happen. Everything you need will just fall into place. If you decide that it was the Lord who wanted you to make this move/change it is never too late to obey Him. prayon |

723 | Want to learn more ab. the women of the | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51898
Greetiings and welcome to the forum. there are many books that can help you to learn more about the women of the bible. I recommend that you go to your local Christian bookstore or to your favorite Christain bookstore website and browse. Francine Rivers wrote 5 novellas on the 5 women in the geneology or Jesus that I really liked, "Unafraid", "Unspoken", and "Unveiled" are three of them. Edith Deen wrote a book called "All the Women of the Bible" that gives a short bio on each of the women in the bible. Many books can be found in your public library. Good reading! No one can learn your email address unless you fill out your profile, plus it is really nice to know something about the person you are replying to. Thanks prayon |

724 | what is covenant? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51896
Greetings t2babs, a covenant is a formal agreement or treaty between two parties with each assuming some obligation. A covenant may be a pact between 2 individuals, such as Laban and Jacob (Gen 31:44-54)and a husband and wife, or between 2 nations. A covenant might also be imposed by a greater power upon a lesser one. The greater power demands loyality and obligates itself to the protection of the lesser one, such as Israel and the Gibeonites (Josh 9). We still do make covenants today. They are sometimes called treaties. A covenant is made between a husband and wife in their marriage vows. The main thing to know about covenants is that they are not to be broken. Do not enter into one lightly. prayon |

Greetings, God speaks to people in many ways. Have you ever said, "something told me not to do that"? That something was God. Some people call it a gut instinct. He is that quiet voice that you hear in your spirit. It takes a while to learn to hear Him speaking. It is not something that you will be able to hear over night. The first thing to do is to pray and ask God to be able to hear Him when He speaks. Then when you start to do something, stop, and see what that little voice tells you. Another way that God may speak to you is through others. For example, have you ever been listening to a sermon and something was said that really caught your attention? Or maybe you heard something in the sermon then someone else tells you the same thing. That is God. Just keep listening and you will hear Him because He does speak to you too. Hope this helps. prayon |

726 | why can't a christian dink or dance | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51508
Greetings ENS, I have to agree with SSprin, and 2Samuel. Some denominations do not believe in dancing. I think it is unfortunate. I, too am going to assume you are in high school, so I want to add that whatever your parents say is what you must do. I suggest that you research dancing in the bible and then ask your parents to sit down and discuss it with you. Two additional references are in Psalm 150:4 The bible tells us to praise him with dance. See also 149:3. When ever you dance always dance in a way that will honor the Lord (refrain from lewd and vulgar dancing). As far as what to tell your friends, tell them the truth. If they don't accept it they don't accept it. I do commend you for standing strong against peer pressure. prayon |

728 | What is eunuch and his job? why call enu | Acts 8:36 | prayon | 51376
Greetings, In addition to what jlpangilinan stated, eunuchs, who were ususally incapacitated in some way were appointed to guard harems found in all the royal palaces of Egypt, Babylon, Persia, and Ethiopia. Eunuch's, who were emasuculated and deprived of their virility, were safe with the charge of wives, concubines, and the female apartments of the palace. The king, in the Persian palaces gave commands to the women through the Eunuch's and thus kept men at a distance. Daniel and his companions were possible mutilated so as to become eunuchs of the Babylonian king. Prisoners of war were often made eunuchs. The Euthiopian, although a eunuch, was a great man who rode in a chariot and had many attendents. As chamberlain to the queen of Ethiopia, he had charge of all her treasures. So the Ethiopian and a few eunuchs of the OT period may have been un-mutilatedmen. Potiphar, for example, is spoken of as a "eunuch", or as the Hebrew implies, an "officer", but he was a married man with a child. Sometimes eunuch is synomymous with cupbearer. Although eunuchs became important persons, aquiring position and power, their acquistion did not remove the sense of degradation and loss. The barbarous practice of self-mutilation an mutilation of others, prevalent throughout the Orient, carried with it serious religious disabilites. The practice was abominable to the Jews as a people (Lev 22:23-25). Eunuchs were regarded as dry and useless wood. The Law excluded eunuchs from public worship for two reasons. First, because self-mutilation was often performed in honor of a heathen god. Second, because a maimed creature of any kind was deemed unfit for God's service (Lev 21:21; 22:24). Later this ban was removed (Isaiah 56:4,5). prayon |

729 | kjv | Matt 3:1 | prayon | 51373
Greetings Josetu, We know that John was a native of Judah came as the child of promise and was born to when his parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth were old. His parents were of priestly descent. His mother, who was well past child bearing age, was a kinsman of Mary, Jesus' mother. John was a man of the desert and a Nazarite from his birth who lived a life of self-denial. He was plain of speech, familiar with the OT, and made frequent use of its picturesqe language. See Luke 1:5-25; 57-80. (Lockyer's All The Men Of The Bible") He was preaching that the kingdom of Heaven was at hand. Matthew used the prase 'kingdom of heaven" to represent the kingdom of God. John spoke of repentence as a radical turning from sin that inevitably became manifest in the fruit of righteousness. prayon |

731 | Has Anyone Changed His Mind? | Eph 2:8 | prayon | 51276
Greetings Hank! No, I have not changed my mind. Salvation is by grace, not by works, or how/when you are baptized. To forgive all of our sins God must have to have mercy or He would give up on some of us. Baptism is something we do and NOTHING we can do can give us salvation except to accept Jesus Christ as our savior. prayon
732 | Does Mt. 22:39 assume self-love? | Matt 22:39 | prayon | 51233
Hi. I don't mind listening but I don't know if I can hear it on my computer. I will try but I am pretty computer illiterate :o( . If not I know someone who would be glad to give you an opinion. You will find my email address in my profile. prayon
733 | Does Mt. 22:39 assume self-love? | Matt 22:39 | prayon | 51136
Greetings KAS, I totally disagree with what Steve said. As I told him you must have self love, but not the kind that is haughty or self centered but a love of yourself that says that you know you are a good person and that you are good enough to be loved by Christ. However, Matt 22:39, according to the MacArthur Study Bible, says that contrary to some contemporary interpretations, it is not a mandate for self love. Instead, it contains in different words the same very idea as the Golden Rule. It prompts believers to measure their love for others by what they wish for themselves. Matt 22:39 is a quotation from Lev 19:18 and is the most quoted verse in the NT. prayon |

734 | Does Mt. 22:39 assume self-love? | Matt 22:39 | prayon | 51133
Also Steve, please be careful on who you say that to. It could lead a depressed person to think less of themselves than they already do and lead to suicide. prayon
735 | Does Mt. 22:39 assume self-love? | Matt 22:39 | prayon | 51132
Greetings Steve, I strongly disagree. First that she is incorrect. You must love yourself in order to love others. The key is the kind of love you have for yourself. The love you need is not one that is haughty and self centered, but a love for yourself that knows you are a good person and that you are worthy of Christ's love. Many people do not love themselves. I have been at that point myself. When you hate yourself you are definitly not thinking more of yourself than you ought!!! prayon |

737 | Please explain Genesis 37:23-36 | Gen 37:26 | prayon | 51050
Greetings, Again I am not sure exactly what you are seeking to find out. Basically, Joseph's brothers hated him so much because he was his father's favorite and his father left to him the double portion that the eldest should of received. At first they were going to kill him but leaving him to die in the pit, however Judah came to his rescue and he was sold to the Ishmaelites. They then went home and told their father that he died by a wild animal. prayon

739 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 51040
It is not the water of baptism that saves, but God's grace accepted through faith in Christ. Because of Jesus' response to the thief on the cross that died with him, we know it is possible to be saved without being baptized (Luke 23:43). Baptism alone without faith does not automatically bring a person to heaven. Those who refuse to believe will be condemned, regardless of whether or not they have been baptized. You put on Christ by taking off the old "self" and becoming a new person in Jesus Christ. Could you please put only one basic question per entry. Thanks, it will help us to answer you more fully. prayon |

740 | sin unto death | 1 John 5:16 | prayon | 50993
Greetings new creature, 1John was not written to any particular person or church. It was sent as a pastorial letter to several Gentile congregations as well as all believers everywhere. It was written by John about 85-90 AD. Commentators differ widely in their thoughts whether this is a spiritual or physical death. The contrst to the phrase "there is sin leading to death" with "there is sin not leading to death" signifies that the writer distinguishes between sins that lead to a physical death and those that do not. That is not to identify a certain kind of mortal or not mortal sin, but to say not all sins are so judged by God. John, in this verse, was refering to those who had left the Christian fellowship and joined the antichrists. This situation, I believe, refers to the spiritual death since once they went against Christ they had lost their way to salvation. I could not find any conclusive evidence whether the "brother" is a believer or not. However, I believe that it is refering to a believer since we are told to watch over our brothers in Matt., (Sorry couldn't fnd the verse). There are a number of interpretations of what "sin unto death" means. The most common view is that which sees the sin unto death as the sin of a Christian which results in physical death rather than spiritual death. (1Cor 11:30). Sin unto death" could be any premeditated and unconfessed sin that causes the Lord to determine to end a believer's life. It is not one particular sin like lying or homosexuality, but whatever sin is the final one in the tolerance of God. Failure to repent of and forsake sin may eventually lead to physical death as judgement of God(Acts5:1-11; 1Cor 5:5;11:30). As for you last question I will leave that to someone else - I have no idea... (ref: Life Appl Bible; MacArthur Study Bible; Everyman's Bible Commentary) prayon |
