1161 | Yes, but how Nolan? | Joshua | prayon | 8608
Nolan - I know that she believed. She was a woman of great faith! But how did she come to that faith? Did someone witness to her about God or did she come to that faith herself? How did she learn that there was a Yahweh? Somebody must of told her about Him. prayon

1163 | Spirtual Gifts | Matt 7:13 | prayon | 8580
Ezekiel, The gift of tongues (the ability to speak by inspiration of the Holy Spitit in a language which has not been learned) is still alive and well today. Many people have dimissed the gift of tongues, because they have not understood the value and significance of the gift. Those people deprive themselves and those who they influence of much blessing. 1Cor 12:7-10 lists the nine spiritual gifts, one being tongues. None of the other spiritual gifts have disappeared why should this one? Throughout the history of the Church there is a record of believers who exercised the gift of speaking in tongues, including such men as John Wesley, Charles Finney and D.L. Moody. Paul tells us that he would "like all of you to speak in tongues". He knew that this letter would be spread throughout the world, therefore by not naming the Corinthians in particular he meant it for everyone. He also tells us in 1Cor 14:4 theat "he who speaks in tongues edifies himself"; he is "building up" his spirit. The daily use of tongues in worship and d prayer will keep the spirit strong. In answer to your question asked in a previous post, How do you receive it? all who have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit have the ability to speak in tongues. All you have to do is to then speak out in faith and the Holy Spirit will give it to you. it is as though the Holy Spirit takes over your tongue and vocal cords. However, people receive it at different times - God's timing. Some people receive the gift upon baptism, some much later. I have spoken in tongues for quite a while and I can tell you that it is a very uplifting and rewarding experience. prayon |

1167 | How did Rahab learn about God? | Joshua | prayon | 8575
Where did Rahab first hear about God? Did she hear what he did in other cities and know of His power and believe. To do the things she did (risk her life for the Isrealite spies) she must of been very strong in her faith.
1168 | What is an ASHERAH POLE? | 2 Chr 24:18 | prayon | 8571
Hi gubber! Just to add a few more comments on Asherah. Asherah, the Cananite goddess according to Ugaritic tradition is the wife of El. In the Ugaritic literature she is called "Lady of the Sea", a title that may signify "she who treads on the sea." Apart from her name, she has other connedtions with the sea. Her servant is called"fisherman of Lady Asherah of the Sea." A drinking cup from Ras-Shama (the modern Arabic name of the site of the ancient city of Ugarit) seems to portray her underwater. It is unclear if the statues were made of wood or it may of been a living tree planted to serve as Asherrah. If I remember correctly they were all disposed of in a certain valley but I can not find the reference. |

1169 | What did Onesimus do? | Philemon | prayon | 8562
Onesimus was Philemin's slave. Onesimus ran away from his master. He meet Paul probably in Ephesus and was converted to Chrisianity. Onesimus had been useless (Philemon 11) but now he would live up to his name which means useful or profitable. Paul appealed to Philemon out of love to not kill Onesimus as was allowed when dealing with run away slaves, but to instead return him to Paul to serve Paul while imprisoned. Prayon

The ladder pictured here is Jacob's ladder also mentioned in Gen 28:12. The ladder is symbolic of the way for us to get to heaven - through Jesus Christ. My question is why were the angels ascending and descending?

1175 | Church leaders must be married? | 1 Tim 3:2 | prayon | 8175
A short time ago there was a debate on whether one must be married to be the leader of a church. For those of you who believe that one must be married to be in a leadership role I ask this: Was Paul married?
1176 | What reduced the crowds to just a few? | John 6:66 | prayon | 8146
Nolan there were a few reasons why the crowds dwindled: 1)Many realized that Jesus wasn't the conquering king that they had expected. 2)Some were upset because they wouldn't give in to their self-centered requests. 3)Jesus emphasized faith not works. 4)His teachings were hard to understand. 5)Many of his words and teachings were offensive. prayon |

1177 | Whole Bible flawed? | 2 Tim 3:16 | prayon | 8143
I second this! If we start wondering if the NT is flawed maybe we should start wondering if the OT is flawed too. We could also start wondering if the word is true at all or just some man made story! We are to believe and know on faith! Faith is the evidence of things not seen! We are told to have faith! Faith that the bible is truly the word of God without flaw. Faith that God is real. Faith that Jesus lived. NO the NT is not flawed - I know this because I have faith in God; that He was in total control of the bible and every word that went into it! Whoever believes that the NT is flawed does not believe in the power of God. Without believeing in the power of God can one truly be saved? |

1178 | Drinking as a means of escape? | Prov 31:6 | prayon | 8071
In this verse Lemuel is saying that instead of kings becoming drunken they need to leave the drinking to those who are sick and dying. Drunkenness can be understood by those who are dying or in bitter distress or great pain, but it is inexcuseable for national leaders. prayon
1179 | Why is Israel called "Jeshurun"? | Is 44:2 | prayon | 8070
Nolan, Jeshurun is another name for Isreal which occurs only in poetry. Jeshurun is considered to be a term of endearment that may emphasize its root meaning of "upright". In this verse it is concerning the redemption and restoration of Isreal (according to Eerdmans Bible Dictionary). Another source that I have says that it refers to the people of Isreal. prayon
1180 | The appearance of Jesus described? | Is 53:2 | prayon | 8068
Yes it does describe His physical appearance. Christ is portrayed as a handsome man in all paintings but in reality there was nothing that attractive in His physical appearance that would draw us to Him. If He had been a handsome man people could and would of miscalculated His importance. He attracted large crowds not on His appearance but on His salvation and healings. prayon
