101 | Help Me With Bible Study... | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 81159
Dear 1001 nights, I have been teaching the Bible for about 19 years or so. The reason for the name I have taken for this forum is because I believe the Word is the most important gift the Lord has given us from which we can navigate our lives in line with Him in this world. I try not to insist on my opinion of His Word but to give the scripture for any situation. I believe the Lord has answers for us through His word for any situation. I may not always find it but because of the time I have spent in His word and walking with Him, I may have enough to be able to help you get a good handle on it. This is what the Lord called me to do. I was born and raised a Roman Catholic of a Jewish mother and Roman Catholic father. I met the Lord while reading my Catholic Bible seeking Him with my whole heart. I no longer attend the Catholic Church but prefer an Assemblies of God denomination though I do not believe the Catholic Church is a cult or anything - I just feel that the Assemblies churches focus more on the word and the gifts of the Spirit which suits my understanding of the Word of God. From the time I was saved my life has never been the same. I continued to read His word and apply it to my life and have found that the Lord has never let me down. After being saved about seven years, and through a tragedy in the life of my family, He called me to minister through leading Bible study. As I have obeyed, most of those who have come to the study have been new Christians or they got saved upon entering our study. It has been a glorious blessing to me to have the privilege of watching these babes in Christ grow to maturity in their walk with the Lord Jesus. I would like nothing better than to share whatever the Lord may give me that could help you in your journey with Him. My attitude is that (Philippians 1:6)the Lord will finish what He has begun in you...that is not my job. However, if He so desires that I may be of some inspiration or help in this endeavor, it would be my privilege. Also, I encourage anyone in the studies that I lead to check the scriptures for themselves, to see if what I may say is true and if they disagree, that is their divine right. If this is at all what you are interested in, I would enjoy hearing from you maybe through e-mail we may be able to correspond with a limited study or I could answer some questions you may have. If this is at all what you may be seeking, you may reach me at marymac84@hotmail.com Itiswritten |

Dear Tdianne, According to the apostle Paul, for the Christian, to be absent from the body (to die or leave the earthly body) is to be present with the Lord. This is found in II Corinthians 5:8. I hope this is of some help. Itiswritten |

103 | What is Brokeness before God? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 81164
Dear Rachclark, I believe "brokenness" before God means a right heart attitude of recognition of ones own shortcomings and true sorrow for sinfulness and desire to be right with God as is expressed in Psalms 34:18 and 51:17, in Isaiah 57:15 and 66:2. I believe that these are expressed best in the New Testament by Jesus when He gave the parable of the Pharisee and the publican in Luke 18:9-17. I hope this answers your question adequately. 104 | Why does God bet with Satan in Job? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 81165
Dear Birdee, I don't believe that God HAD to do anything. He chose to do it. Why? I really don't know. We are told that the Old Testament stories of the saints of old are for us to learn from so that in dire circumstances we will not give up hope as we are told in Romans 15:4. It also gives a clear example of Lucifer or Satan as the "accuser of the brethren" mentioned in Revelation 12:10. I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten |

105 | John9:1-12 and Job1-2 | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 81168
Dear Sweet, Concerning John 9: 1-12- It was customary in the days that Jesus walked this earth as a man, that people reasoned that if a child were born deformed in any way or was born with any kind of handicap that God was punishing the parents' sin. The child in that case could not yet have done anything worthy of punishment. This passage was to let them know that this was NOT the case. It never said that it ever was God's policy (so to speak) to punish anyone because of their parents' sin. In the case of Job, all I know that this was a time before the grace of Messiah had come to us. Though all his children were taken, it does not say that they did not ultimately end up in heaven. It was a testing for Job when he was quite old enough and had walked righteously with God for many years. I think this story was more to encourage us that no matter how bad it gets, we should still have hope in God as He still may be merciful and in fact bless us yet.(read Romans 15:4) I have a friend who had German Measles when she was pregnant with her third child, her first son. Because of this, he was born deaf. For years she felt guilty and responsible for her son's handicap. It caused her to seek spiritual answers until she finally was saved and has a marvelous walk with Jesus Christ today. A couple of years ago, her son who is in his late thirties and has two children now, received an implant and now he knows his mother's voice, his father's voice and the voices of his wife and children. God has turned what had once seemed sad and awful into something truly beautiful in her's and her family's life. I hope this is helpful to you. Itiswritten |

106 | How I do to stop sinning? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 81481
I would just like to add this. Remember Galatians 5:16 "...Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." This is what this means to me: If I try to go on a diet, all I want to do is eat all the things I should not eat. Just the idea of focusing on the problem makes me want to do it more. If I focus on the fact that I should not say something, it's bound to slip out of my mouth. I believe this scripture is giving us a sort of formulae that will help us minimize our sinful tendencies. If I give the Lord each day at the beginning of each day, and I ask Him to show me what I am to do for that day, I will focus on that, and not on those things which tempt me so. If I am walking with him, practicing a consciousness of Him walking with me, I will not tend to sin as much as if I am focusing on that object which tempts me...or focusing on my self and my own desires. While we are in the flesh, I do not believe we can walk totally sinless. The flesh tugs on our fleshly nature all the time as we see in Romans 7:15-25. I read one of Billy Graham's books a long time ago where he described what it was like to be a born-again believer. He put it this way. There were two row boats in the river, one went along with the current or flow of the river and the other was rowing against the current. We all are in the same river but to walk with the Lord you are striving against the current. I hope this is of some help. Itiswritten. |

107 | How I do to stop sinning? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 81566
Dear Talmid, I do not wish to make you sad, yes we can overcome, but we must believe the Word of God, not what we think things should be. Christ has conquered all but this body will not go into the next glorious life because it is flawed. We will receive a resurrection body. In Isaiah 64:6, we are told that all our good works are like filthy rags. That we all have sinned and all have gone astray. And in I John 1:8-9 we are told that if we believe we are without sin we deceive ourselves, however Jesus will continually cleanse us. Of course, Jesus was without sin, that is because He is God, that is because He came to save us...if any of us could have done so, He would not have had to come, become one of us and die. He truly did become a man so as a man He would be the perfect fit to pay our debt. I am sorry to say so, but from what I see of the scriptures, not sinning is a continuing struggle this side of the grave. Yes you can overcome certain sins, but there will always be another that you may not have noticed before. It takes keeping your eyes on Jesus and walking in the Spirit to overcome. I don't think you can find one perfect saint in all of the Bible and I believe this frankness of the Bible is for a reason...truth, AND encouragement. I see it as a glorious struggle, walking with Jesus each step of the way. I believe He loves us as we are and that we should always strive to overcome...but we will have to continue to strive to overcome in this life. Romans 9:24 If you look in the letters to the churches, in each one we are told of the blessings for those who overcomes - Rev. 2:7, 2:11, 2:17, 2:26, 3:5, 3:12, 3:21 etc. I believe we are expected to strive to overcome all the days of our lives. However, if we become saved and immediately die, nothing is required but our faith. We "get in" because Jesus paid the price, not because we have overcome or are good at all. Praise the Lord! This is what the good news is all about. One more thing. What you have said about Jesus is true but if you mean that we can become little Jesus's you may be on the wrong track. There are cults which teach that we can become or attain to becoming little christs. We cannot attain to Him. He is our creator God. He was not created. God prepared a body (Hebrews 10:5)for Him who was with him from eternity (John 1:1-3,14). We were created by and for Him and we should follow His model but our success is ever in His hands. 108 | who is james mother | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 82250
According to the Bible, Mary was indeed a virgin when she becane pregnant with Jesus and until after she gave birth to him. (Genesis 3:15, Matthew 1:25) However, the Bible also tells us that Jesus was the member of a normal family...that Mary and Joseph were allowed a normal married life after Jesus' birth and it names four brothers including James, and mentions also more than one sister. (Matthew 27:56, 13:55, Mark 6:3, 15:40,47, 16:1, Galatians 1:19. The teachings that the Roman Catholic Church gave on the perpetual virginity of Mary came from a time when sex was thought of as an evil necessity...The Roman Church began to get away from the Bible and thus the idea of Mary remaining a virgin seemed cleaner and holier to those leading the Church at the time. From what we see in Scripure...the marriage bed was always considered holy and children a blessing. So, why would God put Mary and Joseph in charge of raising One so precious and restrain them from a normal and fulfilling life with the blessings of more children? Anyway...Now that The Roman Church allows its members to read the Bible, this teaching from the church has begun to be questioned. The Catholic Church maintains Mary's perpetual virginity saying, that these are "cousins" and not siblings. I would say than why do we have in the scripture that John the Baptist was Jesus' cousin. Why did they not use the same terminology for Jesus" siblings as for him if this were the case? As far as I am concerned, we will not go to hell for believing on the wrong side of this issue as long as we realize that she WAS a virgin when she became pregnant and gave birth to Jesus. Though I was raised a Roman Catholic, I believe these were Jesus' siblings. I feel to believe Mary was a virgin forever is probably false and contributes to the veneration of Mary rather than turning people to Jesus as they should. And I believe that we should form our understanding of the Lord and our concepts, doctrines and behavior by what the Scriptures tell us over the teachings of any church, Roman Catholic, Protestant or whatever. I hope this has been of some help. Itiswritten |

109 | 3 non married people.. not Jesus or Paul | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 82253
One major character in the Bible that did not marry was Daniel. I dare say this was probably also true of Shadrach, Meschech and Abednego also in the Book of Daniel. Under the Babylonians, it was customary to castrate those who were to become servants or slaves in the house. Daniel and his friends were most likely teenagers when they were taken in the Babylonian captivity and there is no indication that any of them ever married. I hope this is of some help. Itiswritten |

I do not wish to argue but I feel compelled to comment that matters of faith can not be "proved." FAITH is what is required by God according to His own Word as He tells us it is impossible to please Him without faith and that everything that is not of faith is sin (Hebrews 11:6, Romans 14:25). I choose to believe what God, in His Word tells us, not what ANYONE or ANY RELIGION may state. His word also tells us that to be absent from this body is to be present with the Lord -II Corinthians 5:6-8. Sincerely, Itiswritten |

Dear Radioman2, It does not have to be "proved;" all I know that I for myself, am convinced. Many persons that I know also are convinced in their relationship with the Lord. I cannot convince anyone else about MY relationship with the Lord. I don't know what else to tell you except read I Corinthians 2:11-14, so that you may understand what I am trying to explain. Dear Mallen, It is translated a little differently depending on your English translation. For instance you may find it says "Truly I say to you," or something like that. I believe it simply is written emphatically. In other words, it shows that He is emphasizing the point because it is important. I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten |

113 | Where is eden located? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 83394
Dear Allen0229, According to my "Halleys Bible Handbook," twenty-fourth edition, p.64: "It was on the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, at their junction with the Pishon and Gihon (Gen. 2:10-14). The Pishon and Gihon have not been identified. The Euphrates and Tigris rise in the Caucasus mountain region of southwest Asia, flow southeastward, and empty into the Persian Gulf. Thus man may be said to have been created at about the center of the earth's surface; for this Caucasus-Euphrates region is the approximate center of the Eastern Hemisphere, which is the largest of the two Hemispheres. Ethnologists quite generally consider this region to have been the original home of all the present races of men. It was the region from whence came the ox, goat, sheep, horse, pig, dog, apple, peach, pear, plum, cherry, quince, mulberry, gooseberry, vine, olive, fig, date, almond, wheat, barley, oats, pea, bean, flax, spinich, radish, onion, and most of our fruits and vegetables. The cradle of the human race." Only very recently have some been deciding that man originated in deep Africa. I have seen this on Discovery Channel and other modern scientific television programs. I believe it is an attempt by the enemies of the Gospel to rewrite history in our days. I hope this is of some help to you. Itiswritten |

114 | DEATH OF JOSEPH AND MARY WAS MARY ANGRY | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 83396
Dear Keemnanni, The Bible does not say anything about the death of Joseph or Mary. We assume that Joseph died before Jesus began His earthly ministry, because he is never mentioned except concerning the fact that people considered him Jesus' father and that he had other children as well. Mary lived until after Jesus' resurrection because the Bible gives account of her being present at Pentecost (Acts 1:13 through all of Acts 2). As far as the incident in which Jesus, as a youngster, told his parents that he must be about his Father's business, the Bible tells us that they did not understand what he meant by this statement and also that Mary kept these sayings in her heart (Luke 2:51). Hope this is helpful. Itiswritten |

115 | Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 not Satan! | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 83398
Dear Student7300, The scriptures can stand for more than one thing at the same time. This is not unusual. For instance, Daniel 9:23-27 speaks of the time between the Testaments when Antiochus Epiphanes defiled the temple but along with Matthew 24:15, it also speaks of the second coming of Christ, after the appearance of the antichrist on the scene. In Isaiah 14, it clearly states the name Lucifer, which is a name of Satan. Satan itself means "the adversary." That is merely one of his titles. Lucifer was his original name as a covering angel of God's glory. Lucifer means LIGHT. Lucifer continues to go before God and accuse us. When Jesus sent out 70 believers and told them to heal and perform miracles in his name, he also said that he saw Satan fall from the heavens much the same as it is stated in Isaiah 14. I believe it does stand for the earthly ruler, but I believe it also stands for the devil. I know this can be disconserting, but continued fellowship with the Lord and study of the word of God will make it easier to discern what the Lord is telling you. II Timothy 2:15 says "Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." Do not be upset; pray to the Lord and praise him and continue to study the scriptures and it will get clearer and clearer as you go on. It is very commendable that you want to be accurate and not just accept anything simply because someone else says its so, if you do not see it. Jesus approves of your attitude. Remember also that the Holy Spirit will remind you of whatever God has taught you through His Word. (John 14:26). So, keep studying, keep reading the word, and the Lord through His Holy Spirit will help you make more and more sense of it as time goes on. I hope this is helpful to you. Itiswritten |

116 | PLEASE EXPLAIN MATTHEW 19:8 | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 83399
DearAmenbob, I know nothing about you or your wife. I do not believe any one else should tell you what to do about your situation unless asked and unless qualified. A good counselor is qualified, a minister and/or someone who knows you and the word of God could give good counsel, and the Word of God gives excellent counsel. Concerning your specific question, Jesus is saying that Moses allowed a method for divorce because the men would do it anyway and would not listen because their hearts were hard. He is also saying it was not so in the beginning as God made one man and one woman, not one man and several women. God is never for the destruction of a covenant between two people as in marriage. It is even worse if children are involved. It is not for anyone else to judge, however. You can pray to the Lord to give you a soft heart. The Lord actually CAN give you love for your wife again if the situation is reversible. You really must resolve this with the Lord and not take steps just because someone else tells you something. Read all the scriptures you can find on the subject, and if you are affiliated with a good church ministry, you should seek counseling. Get a good concordance that goes with your Bible and look up everything you can find on marriage, divorce, husband, wife and see what the Lord leads you to do. You may even find bible concordances on line. I sincerely hope this is helpful to you. Itiswritten |

117 | Questions to consider | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 88689
Dear Mommapbs, I believe it would help you if you understand a certain concept. So, please indulge me as what I am about to write will seem to answer your question indirectly. However, coming to understand this has helped me immensely. -First of all God's ways are not like our ways. He does not think like we do. So, what we think might be the right thing may actually, in God's eyes be the absolutely wrong thing. Read Isaiah 55:9. -Second, He reveals Himself and his teachings to us by a revelation within. For instance in Matthew 16:13-18 we see Jesus and Peter. Jesus asks who people think He is. Then He asks his disciples who they think He is and Peter blurts out "The Messiah, the Son of the Living God." To this Jesus replys- "flesh and blood has not revealed this to you...you are Peter and on this Rock I will build my church. Five seconds later Jesus tells His disciples how He will die and Peter says "No, God forbid." and Jesus answers "Get behind me, Satan." What does this mean? I believe it means this. The revelation Peter received...a direct revelation within himself, is what Jesus was building His church on..not on the man, Peter. But the precious revelation that God had given Peter. Why? because that is what it takes when we do not understand and God allows our faith to be shaken. When all the superficial stuff is shaken off of us, our faith will still stand on that which God has directly revealed as truth to us. That is why Jesus could give Peter such a compliment in one moment and in the next breath almost, insult him. He was speaking of the revelation. Third- Now look at John 6: 41-58 where Jesus tells his disciples (more than the 12) that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood. Everyone thought He was speaking of cannibalism. That He refused to explain this to anyone used to puzzle me. If you look further to John 6:61-65 you see that He was aware that many had left from following him and even his closest disciples were grumbling at this and called it a hard saying. However, look at the 65th verse and 6:66-69. Though Peter did not understand, because of his revelation knowledge...because he was convinced in his heart that Jesus was the Messiah, the Christ of God, even though he did not understand, even though what Jesus or God was saying to him was above his comprehension and seemed awful at the moment, he did not leave because he reasoned, "Where else shall we go, you (alone) have eternal life?" Finally, God is so above us we often totally misunderstand what He is doing. Unless we are convinced inside our hearts that He is who He says He is, we will not be able to hold on during trials and tribulations. And, the trials and tribulations are the very things God sends to test, to refine and purify our faith. Read Mark 4:16-17. The Bible is what God has given to us to be able to follow Him. Anything else is man-made and some man's idea. There are many good books out there that teach about God's word, but when things get confusing, going back directly to the Word of God has helped me the most and after knowing the Lord for over 25 years, He has never let me down in His word. ALL the answers to life are in its pages. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you and He will bring you to the Scriptures you need to carry on. One more thing. We are often called to believe God when we don't understand and very often after we do that, God does eventually give us understanding. I hope this has been of some help to you. Itiswritten. |

118 | What is truth? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 88863
Dear Tara, What is truth? Jesus. In the Bible it is said that Jesus told us about Himself: "I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life: no man comes to the Father but by me." It is also true that the Bible is the written word of God and Jesus is the living Word of God. Read John 1:1-3 and verse 14. He is the Word made flesh and He is the Creator along with the Father who existed from eternity to eternity. In Revelation we are also told that He is the "Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end" who died and now lives forevermore. This verse also states that He is the Almighty - Read Revelation 1:8 I hope this is of some help to you. Itiswritten. |

Dear Sara, In Isaiah 14:12-15 we see that his original name was Lucifer. He was "The Light-bearer." Though this Scripture speaks also of an earthly dignitary it also speaks of the spiritual being now known as Satan according to many respected Christian leaders. Just as God changed the name of Jacob to Israel when he made a major course change in his direction, so Lucifer became Satan the adversary. Jesus also comments about him in Luke 10:18 speaking of him in his new name. I hope this is helpful. Itiswritten |

120 | they presented unto him gifts, gold, and | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 90132
Dear LBlock, According to the "Illustrated Bible Dictionary," published by Harvest House: "Frankin'cense (Heb. Leb'onah; Gr. libanos- i.e., "white"), an odorous resin imported from Arabia (Isa. 60:6; Jer. 6:20) yet also growing in Palestine (Cant. 4:14). It was one of the ingredients in the perfume of the sanctuary (Ex. 30:34), and was used as an accompaniament of the meat-offering (Lev. 2:1,16; 6:15; 24:7). When burnt it emitted a fragrant odour, and hence the incense became a symbol of the Divine name (Mal. 1:11; Cant. 1:3) and an emblem of prayer (Ps. 141:2; Lk. 1:10; Rev. 5:8; 8:3). This frankincense or olibanum, used by the Jews in the temple services is not to be confounded with the frankincense of modern commerce, which is an exudation of the Norway spruce fir the Pinus abies. It was probably a resin from the Indian tree known to botanists by the name of Boswellia serrata or thurifera, which grows to the height of forty feet." I hope this is helpful to you. Itiswritten. |
