321 | Is baptism required? | Bible general Archive 3 | ebrain | 167154
No, baptism is not required for salvation, but it is God's prefered option, read 1st Peter 3:21, (NKJV), as the Lord wishes you to give a public demonstration of your conversion to, and acceptance of His provision of your salvation. Also do what Doc says. |

322 | how many unforgiven sins are there? | John 1:1 | ebrain | 167107
Dear Jeff. In resoponse to your latest post let me say that I have allready given you the verses you are asking for, they are 31, and 32 of Ch 12 of Matthew. Verse 31 states that "Blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven", and in verse 32 that "Whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven", making it abundantly clear that blasphemy and speaking against are one and the same thing. It is clear to me that you cannot have read these verses, as you would not have asked the same question a second time. There is a part of my nature that enables me to see that calling someone a lier, is the same as speaking against them, this part I refer to as common sense. It is a pity that you say "I'm not interested in aplying common sense", what a shame, you will miss so much. I am 74 years of age, and have been a christian for more than 44 years, during which time I have spoken many times on this subject to many groups of people in many locations, and never at any time has anyone doubted what I have just told you. |

As I have said before, becomming a christian does not require the abandenment of common sense. Please tell me if you think that caling the Holy Spirit a lier is blasphemy or not? |

324 | how many unforgiven sins are there? | John 1:1 | ebrain | 167027
If you mean how many sins will not be forgiven, then the answer is only one, and this one can only be commited by a non christian, in other words if you have become a christian, then you have gone past the time in your life when it was possible to commit the unforgivable sin. The only way to become a christian is as a result of believing what the Holy Spirit tells you i.e. that you are a sinner, and are in need of salvation. If you accept His invitation to receive Jesus as your own personal saviour, then you will become a christian, but if you refuse, then you are calling Him a lier, and as a result will not be saved. In our Lord's day the unforgivable sin was to describe the Holy Spirit's work, as the work of the Devil, see Matthew 12:22-32, in our day it is calling the Holy Spirit a lier. |

328 | What does God say on birth control? | Gen 1:28 | ebrain | 166660
I believe that Onan was killed because of his sin, in that he used a Divine requirment for his own pleasure, and not for the reason that the Law intended. I do not believe that this incident can de taken as God's condemnation of contraseption. |

330 | Does Jn 15:16 "choosing" apply to us? | John 15:16 | ebrain | 166628
Jesus is speaking to all His diciples, both past, and present, note we also are His diciples. Bearing fruit, however, is dependant on our letting Him have complete and total right of way in our lives, and that is what the Bible calls faith. You carn't He can, lets go. |

331 | Who was Cain afraid of? | Gen 4:14 | ebrain | 166626
I believe Cain was afraid of persons who at the time he spoke these words did not exist, but he considered would in due course be born into this world. See Genesis Ch 5 vs 3-4, after the birth of Seth, who was born when Adam was 130 years old, Adam went on to live for a further 800 years, and fathered both sons and daughters. I am concluding that Cain knew that as time went on future gererations would be told of what he Cain had done, and as a result, kill him and fulfill what he had said at Ch 4 v 14 would happen. God also knew this, which is why He put a mark on Cain see v 15, in order prevent him from being murdered. |

332 | Unforgiveable Sin? | Eph 1:7 | ebrain | 166615
Thank you again CDBJ for your instructive post, I am sure many will find it most helpfull. Allow me to say something about the background to Matthew Ch 12 vs 22-32, the Pharisees taught that anyone could perform Miracles who was empowered to do so by the Holy Spirit, but only the Messiah (Son of David) when He came would be able to perform certain Miracles, and one of these was to cast out a demon that caused a person to be "Mute". This is why in v 23, the people were amazed, and said "Can this be the Son of David", the unspoken words were "This man has just performed what you Pharisees have allways told us could only be performed by the Messiah?". The Pharisees who enjoyed their position of power, and authority, over the comon people and had made it clear "We will not have this man to rule over us", now found themselves in an impossible position. There was no way in which they were prepared to confirm His Messiahship, because they knew full well that if they did, they were finished, and whats more due for judgment. The only way out they could see was to do exactly what the did, that is to credit the Holy Spirit's work to the Devil, and that is what is unforgivable. Other Miracles that the Pharisees maintained could only be performed by Messiah, were , opening the eyes of a person who had been born blind, not one who had become blind in later life, clensing lepers, and raising a person back from the dead after three days. Have you ever wondered why Jesus "stayed two days longer" (John 11:6,) if He had not done this, then Lazarus would have only been dead two days, and not four. Remember if it is recorded in Scripture, then it is there for a very good reason. God bless you all. Edwin Brain. |

333 | Unforgiveable Sin? | Eph 1:7 | ebrain | 166592
Thank you CDBJ for the many Scripture verses you have refered to in your post, which by the way I have enjoyed reading, however, you have not as far as I can see addressed the question raised in the first place, namely "The unforgivable sin", I, and I am sure many others would like to have your comments on this topic. Thank you. ebrain. |

336 | Christians with demon oppression | Rom 8:16 | ebrain | 166509
A christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, and it is therefore impossible to be demon possesed at the same time. The question is, is this person a true born again beliver, James when speaking to christians says in Ch 1 v 14, that it is your own desires that lure, and entice you, and not God, a demon, or anyone else. What can be done. well Prayer to start with, that is fervant earnest believing Prayer. You will find Mark 11:24, with 1st John 5:14, helpfull in this respect. May the Lord bless you, and all thoes for whom you pray. |

337 | Unforgiveable Sin? | Eph 1:7 | ebrain | 166507
Ephesians 1:7, refers to sins that can be forgiven, and therefore cannot refer to the sin which is unforgivable. The explanation is quite simple, you will note that the first two words are "In Him", the only way in which you are considered by God to be in Him is as a result of your having believed what the Holy Spirit has told you i.e. that you are a sinner heading for a lost eternity, and in desperate need of salvation. The unforgivable sin, would have been to call the Holy Spirit a lier, which you clearly have not done, as you have accepted what He has said to you as being true, and you have repented, and received Jesus as your own personal saviour. Only thoes who refuse to believe what the Holy Spirit says about them, will as a result not be forgiven. I hope that this is of help. |

338 | When did Jesus know He was God? | John 1:1 | ebrain | 166378
Thank you for your comments, however, I do not think that Joseph and Mary would have told Him for the following reasons. Mark 3:21, reads "And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, "He is out of his mind". Also John 7:5 reads "For not even his brothers believed in him", and Luke 2:19. makes me think that Mary kept all these things to herself, perhaps she was told by the Angel to say nothing?. In view of the above, I find it hard to believe that it was common knowledge in His family. |

340 | MOMMAPBS HAVE YOU READ JHON 3.1-8 ANCER | Acts 2:38 | ebrain | 166347
The word water at John 3:5, has nothing to do with Baptism, it refers to amniotic fluid, and therefore physical birth, as opposed to Spiritual birth. In case there is any doubt as to what was intended to be undrestood, then verse 6 makes this clear, as it repeats verse 5, but uses the word flesh in place of water. Water Baptism follows Spiritual re-birth, it does not preceed it as is made clear at Acts 2:38, Please do not put the cart before the horse. |
