501 | Did Cain marry one of his sisters? | Eph 5:25 | Wild Olive Shoot | 165610
Dear Bibleman3, Although some on this forum may claim that they can see into another’s heart and know the motives behind their questions, most will approach the question with honesty and in accordance with God's word to the best of their ability, taking the question at face value. With that, I believe brothers Hank and Kalos have already answered your question. I just wanted to reiterate that questions only appear to be illegitimate if answered illegitimately and in haste. Like Hank stated, it is an appropriate question there just isn’t a precise answer. Welcome to the Forum. WOS |

502 | What are the limits of salvation? | 2 Tim 3:15 | Wild Olive Shoot | 165545
If salvation is by the grace of God, then there aren’t any restrictions, no limits. "Jesus Christ takes many to his bosom, whose company we should have shunned, when they were in their evil state. Sovereign mercy can dash into sinful places, and take captives! Free grace can go into the gutter, and bring up a jewel! Divine love can rake a dunghill, and find a diamond! There is no spot where God's grace cannot and will not go!" - From Spurgeon's sermon, "A DIVINE CHALLENGE!" If God claims you as His, are you so pompous to think that you can overrule Him and blaspheme, and claim you are not? WOS |

503 | Jesus comitted a suicide ? | 1 John 3:16 | Wild Olive Shoot | 165512
You misunderstand what it was that Christ did for you. He did not take His own life, He gave it up for you. He gave, He didn’t take. He gave all and took nothing. 1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. Concerning Job, yes, he desired death but never considered taking his own life, he begged God to do it, and was wrong in requesting it. “How uneasy soever the soul's confinement in the body may be, it must by no means break prison, but wait for a fair discharge.” – Matthew Henry “The vanity of human life; so uncertain a good is it that it often proves men's greatest burden and nothing is so desirable as to get clear of it. Let grace make us willing to part with it whenever God calls; for it may so happen that even sense may make us desirous to part with it before he calls.” – Matthew Henry We must hate our lives in this world in comparison to the “other world”. We must love it more in order to obtain it. John 12:24-26: 24Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. You can only be saved by the grace of God, through faith in Christ. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Smoking is a sin as you purposely harm the Temple of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. Yes you are lying. WOS |

504 | Confronting another about sin | 1 Tim 5:14 | Wild Olive Shoot | 165470
Dear drcinva, First of all, I suggest you seek counseling from your pastor or other trusted and well learned church member, or family member, on how it may be best to handle your dilemma. Secondly, you need to be wise enough, discerning enough and mindful enough to eliminate yourself from situations that may lead to harm, no matter how unintentional and innocent it may have appeared in the onset. I pray in the meantime, you take this experience and learn from it and can use it to advise others as well. Proverbs 3:21-23 (KJV) 21My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. 23Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. Proverbs 14:15-16 (KJV) 15The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going. 16A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. WOS |

505 | What does the Bible say RE:gambling? | Rom 14:22 | Wild Olive Shoot | 165447
Dear saltoftheearth, Here are a couple links I think may help. http://www.blueletterbible.org/faq/gambling.html http://www.gotquestions.org/gambling-sin.html See also 1 Corinthians 8 and Romans 14. I know it is talking about a different subject but I feel the same principle applies. If your conscience has you apprehensive and you make that known, then by all means, your friend should respond accordingly. The least you should do is adhere to your stance for your own conscience’s sake. WOS |

507 | We have seen Jesus... | 1 Timothy | Wild Olive Shoot | 165226
Dear Shythiyl, Matthew Henry claimed with reference to Ephesians 3:18-19: “There is a spiritual manifestation of Christ and his love made to all believers. When he enlightens their minds to know his love, and the dimensions of it enlivens their graces, and draws them into exercise, and thus enlarges their comforts in himself - when he clears up the evidences of their interest in him, and gives them tokens of his love, experience of his tenderness, and earnests of his kingdom and glory, - then he manifests himself to them; and Christ is manifested to none but those to whom he is pleased to manifest himself.” Ephesians 3:14-19(KJV) 14For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. In support I would offer: Colossians 2:9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: Proverbs 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. It’s the love of God that is manifested to us and the manifestation of that love that we emulate to others as well. And it’s conditional: that we love Him and that is made known through observing and keeping his commandments, which is love in its fullness. Romans 8:38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 508 | Law and Gospel | Eph 2:8 | Wild Olive Shoot | 164702
Merry Christmas lionheart. I hope you had a blessed day. Here is but one more quote that I think is beautiful. “Jesus Christ takes many to his bosom, whose company we should have shunned, when they were in their evil state. Sovereign mercy can dash into sinful places, and take captives! Free grace can go into the gutter, and bring up a jewel! Divine love can rake a dunghill, and find a diamond! 509 | Law and Gospel | Eph 2:8 | Wild Olive Shoot | 164698
One more? "Salvation must be by grace. If man be lost by sin, how can he be saved except through the grace of God? If he has sinned, he is condemned; and how can he, of himself, reverse that condemnation? Suppose that he should keep the law all the rest of his life, he will then only have done what he was always bound to have done, and he will still be an unprofitable servant. What is to become of the past? How can old sins be blotted out? How can the old ruin be retrieved? According to Scripture, and according to common sense, salvation can only be through the free favour of God. Salvation in the present tense must be by the free favour of God. Persons may contend for salvation by works, but you will not hear anyone support his own argument by saying, "I am myself saved by what I have done." That would be a superfluity of naughtiness to which few men would go. Pride could hardly compass itself about with such extravagant boasting. No, if we are saved, it must be by the free favour of God. No one professes to be an example of the opposite view." - C. H. Spurgeon |

510 | Law and Gospel | Eph 2:8 | Wild Olive Shoot | 164696
“Love is his inclination to do us good considered simply as creatures; mercy respects us as apostate and as miserable creatures. Observe, God's eternal love or good-will towards his creatures is the fountain whence all his mercies vouch-safed to us proceed; and that love of God is great love, and that mercy of his is rich mercy, inexpressibly great and inexhaustibly rich. And then by grace you are saved (Eph_2:5), and by grace are you saved through faith - it is the gift of God, Eph_2:8. Note, Every converted sinner is a saved sinner. Such are delivered from sin and wrath; they are brought into a state of salvation, and have a right given them by grace to eternal happiness. The grace that saves them is the free undeserved goodness and favour of God; and he saves them, not by the works of the law, but through faith in Christ Jesus, by means of which they come to partake of the great blessings of the gospel; and both that faith and that salvation on which it has so great an influence are the gift of God.”… …”Grace in the soul is a new life in the soul. As death locks up the senses, seals up all the powers and faculties, so does a state of sin, as to any thing that is good. Grace unlocks and opens all, and enlarges the soul. Observe, A regenerate sinner becomes a living soul: he lives a life of sanctification, being born of God; and he lives in the sense of the law, being delivered from the guilt of sin by pardoning and justifying grace. He hath quickened us together with Christ. Our spiritual life results from our union with Christ; it is in him that we live: Because I live, you shall live also.” - Matthew Henry |

511 | What month was Jesus born in? | NT general Archive 1 | Wild Olive Shoot | 164691
First, you need to re-read Matthew 12:1-14. Secondly, How can man make any day? (please don’t answer) Brother I believe I have been patient and kind in dealing with your rhetoric. You cannot and will not provoke me to anger on such a glorious day as this, and truly, every day with Christ is glorious. To me, and I’m being honest here, I’m viewing you as the experts of the law were viewed. You miss the whole Spirit of the Law and blindly want to follow the blind. Learn what love is my friend; learn whole-heartedly just what your Savior has done for you. Peace to you WOS |

512 | What month was Jesus born in? | NT general Archive 1 | Wild Olive Shoot | 164688
I believe the Law is summed up in love. Love of God and love of thy neighbor. I believe, no, I know, that when that is truly recognized and adhered to, that there is nothing so inconsequential as to a particular day of worship for our Lord that should seem offensive or contrary to another brothers belief. In the love we share of one another, the petty differences should be set aside and our focus should be on Christ. You can’t be looking up while you are looking down. And when you keep your focus down here, on ritual days, or things that shouldn’t be, you risk missing the prize, the glory that shines above. If in your heart, you feel so strongly, or in your spiritual growth you feel weakened, by the fact that some consider one day this and another day that, you must bear in mind, that every day is the Lord’s. Man holds no sovereignty over the days any more than we grasp control of our own salvation. Don’t be offended brother when someone wants to hold another day in higher regard when they do so for the One that will save them and the One that will save you. So to end my discussion, let me add just this: You are not being forced to worship Christ on any day, you should want to, out of love, every day, regardless of what or whom has attempted to make of a particular day. But on the other hand, you should not be forcing your opinions regarding the days on those who choose to worship at any given time. They worship the Lord, the very One who created the days. And as long as that is the case, neither you nor I are wrong. WOS |

I specifically asked you four questions and you didn’t respond to one of them. Are you avoiding? I’ll re-post: How is worshipping Christ vile in your eyes my friend? How many more references can you make to worshipping Christ as a vile act? Is He your Lord and Savior? Is worshipping Him vile on any day, or just December 25th? Please explain. In all honesty, I’m trying to figure why you keep the position that it is vile to worship Christ. I would very much like for you to enlighten me, when, in your opinion may I worship my Lord? WOS |

I'm only suggesting that we can't and don't obey them on our own, thus our need for a Savior. You stated that you keep them all. I’m glad you corrected yourself because that statement would lead me to believe you are a liar. Tell me friend, are you aware of what our Lord called the greatest commandments? Matthew 22:37-40 WOS |

You keep all of the commandments? Don't you know that there has only been one who has not transgressed the law? You are not Him. If you claim to keep all of the commandments, why did He have to die for you? WOS |

517 | What month was Jesus born in? | NT general Archive 1 | Wild Olive Shoot | 164642
My point is, there is much the Bible doesn't speak to. If you use the argument "I don't do something because the Bible doesn't speak of it", and actually live to that, then you're either a hermit living in a cave somewhere, or you are not really living to that standard. We have a conscience, a God given conscience, that we need to be able to use. We must be discerning if we claim to belong to God and yet live in fleshy world. I know good and well where Christmas originated my friend. However, I choose to worship Christ on this day, I do not chase after pagan gods. Now if you really mean to inform me that simply because the Roman Church used December 25th to mark a celebration of the incarnation of our Lord in an attempt to gain pagan peoples, and that seems to be true, and because of that I can’t worship Christ on that day, you are surely mistaken. Evil triumphs on any day in which we feel it is improper to honor our God. I worship Christ on Christmas day as I will any day and there is none that can take that from me. So you mean to tell me, that on December 25th, you pay no homage to Christ? I’m sure that is not to His satisfaction. It seems to me that it would be more of an insult to Him to feel there is a day in which we should not honor the Lord. By the way, one should be grateful this day and age to get a “merry” anything, its not often many are willing to extend a greeting of good cheer. WOS |

Then in your posts brother, change your "we" to "you" or "I". Don't inform "me" that I should not be worshipping my lord on a particular day because you don't. WOS And I didn’t say the birth was celebrated, I said it was observed, by heavenly angels nonetheless. |

520 | names of 3 wise men | Matt 2:1 | Wild Olive Shoot | 164614
Do you see what you did here? You claim that is how the Bible gets corrupted, by people putting in what isn’t there and then you do the very thing by insinuating that the wise men “may have come from Iraq”. We don’t know how many wise men and we know not from where they came. WOS |
