401 | How many generations betw Exodus-Solomon | Matt 1:17 | Val | 207323
Most likely the time of Ruth was closer to the beginning of the 300 plus years of the judges than to the end of that time. Ruth did not happen after Judges chronologically. A simple timeline would be Rahab/Joshua 2 then Ruth/Judges 300 plus years then David then Jesus. There are enough generations for the time of the taking of the land and the time of the judges up to the birth of David. At that tme a generation was about 100 years; even Joshua lived 110 years. Therefore, from Rahab and Salmon to David could easily have been 400 years. Rahab, Joshua 2–6, was Boaz’s mother according to Ruth 4 and Matthew 1:5. 402 | Were the wisemen real? | Matt 2:2 | Val | 196943
Its a true story. Matt 2:2 "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him." Obviously the star appeared the night Christ was born. The number of wise men is actually unknown. As you read the account you see it does not give the number. Somewhere along the way three became the popular number. Merry Christmas. |

403 | What is Baptism in the Holy Spirit | Matt 3:11 | Val | 196408
If you read the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, then read Acts you will see how the baptism of the Holy Spirit came and why. It is basically a down payment on a future blessing. We receive it when we are born again and when we go to heaven receive the full blessing.
404 | Scripture help for reasoning/decisions | Matt 4:7 | Val | 197715
Sometimes people need to get counseling for thoughts like this. Encourage her to get counseling and be sure to tell someone what she has said. Ask the Lord for wisdom in this situation. May God Bless you and Merry Christmas. James 1:1-6 James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings.Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance and let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach and it will be given to him but he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. |

406 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Matt 5:17 | Val | 223147
Looking back to when the ten commandments were given, when Israel came out of bondage in Egypt and who they were given to, Israel by Moses we learn much by studing the book of Exodus and Leviticus as well as the Genesis, Numbers and Deuteronomy. We see that God gave the commandments to Israel to show them how they are to relate to God and to one another. Looking at the attributes of God we see that He is holy and we are to be like Him by obeying and trusting Him. Matthew 22:37 The ten commandments show us what kind of people we are to be and how we are to treat one another. The ten commandments also show us that God, the creator of heaven and earth is to be worshiped by all his creation. The ten commandments also serve as a warning that if we do not obey them we will suffer the consequences. Each day you and I are faced with choices to obey or break a commandment. When we chose to obey we normally have peace and a clean conscience. When we disobey we bring turmoil and strife to our lives and the lives of those who are hurt by our disobedience. The ten commandments are a plumb line. We line up our choices next to the plumb line. This helps us make the right, God honoring choices. Hope this helps.

408 | They had the knowledge of God | Matt 5:20 | Val | 206119
If you do a word search on the word Pharisees you will learn a lot about them and the whys of what they did. Here is one verse Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected God's purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John. In essence they were the leaders, had high positions and Christ threatened their position. They did not want to submit to Him. It is a lot like today. People do not want to submit to Christ. They want to live the way they want. To follow Christ to some means they would have to change their lifestyles, something many do not want to do. Again, a word search on Pharisees will show you much. They would be what we call snobs today. Blessings, Val |

409 | Is killing scriptual in theNEW TESTAMENT | Matt 5:44 | Val | 192624
Eccl 3:1 There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven-- Eccl 3:2 A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. Eccl 3:3 A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up. Eccl 3:4 A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance. Eccl 3:5 A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing. Eccl 3:6 A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away. Eccl 3:7 A time to tear apart and a time to sew together; A time to be silent and a time to speak. Eccl 3:8 A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace. Eccl 3:16 Furthermore, I have seen under the sun that in the place of justice there is wickedness and in the place of righteousness there is wickedness. Eccl 3:17 I said to myself, "God will judge both the righteous man and the wicked man," for a time for every matter and for every deed is there. Dan 11:44 "But rumors from the East and from the North will disturb him, and he will go forth with great wrath to destroy and annihilate many. 2 Matt 24:6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. 3 Mark 13:7 "When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end. Commentary: Of course there is killing in time of war and the Lord talked about war saying it would take place. We are to love our enemies by praying that they become followers of Him then they are no longer enemies when they become followers of the Lord. |

(The centurion humbled himself before the Lord and made his request in verse 8) Matt 8:9 "For I also am a man under authority, with soldiers under me; and I say to this one, 'Go!' and he goes, and to another, 'Come!' and he comes, and to my slave, 'Do this!' and he does it." (The centurion recognized the Lord's authority over disease) Matt 8:10 Now when Jesus heard this, He marveled and said to those who were following, "Truly I say to you, I have not found such great faith with anyone in Israel. Matt 8:13 And Jesus said to the centurion, "Go; it shall be done for you as you have believed." And the servant was healed that very moment. |

416 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | Val | 215870
Hello Brother Tim, you know I get so tired of the wine question but I just wanted to ask you this what is worse drinking wine or providing it for others to drink. It seems to me they are the same. You are right we do not have a clear cut verse that says our Lord drank the wine but we do have one that He performed the miracle in making it. There are hundreds of other sins and abuses to preach on. Why will preachers not get on their soap boxes about spousal abuse, beating their wives and children, incest, pornography, and a host of other despicable sins. Yet we have this debate every two or three months about drinking wine. Since God made everything on earth and Jesus is God then he made other things that are bad for us if taken in excess so why do preachers want to deny that the Lord made alcohol. It seems to me to be a non issue. God made everything. Just a few thoughts. Hope you are well. Sister Val
417 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | Val | 215875
Dear Brother Tim, As to your point in the first part of your answer my answer is Not Necessarily. People come to conclusions based on their experience from studying the scriptures. And even then as they study further their conclusion may change with more enlightenment. You still didn't answer the second part of my question. Why is that? Could it be because you know preachers are guilty of not spending enough time on the despicable sins because people don't want to hear the horrible. Could it be that discussing wine is a more safe subject? I think of the people who raise the grapes for wine. This is their livelyhood. How would you witness to them? Could it be that you would tell them they have to find another means of feeding their family? Could it be that we make being a christian harder than it has to be? I believe we do. What say you? 418 | Did Jesus ever drink wine? | Matt 11:19 | Val | 215876
Dear Brother Tim, You said "The true value of his work is that he actually digs into the meanings of the words and doesn't just assume that anytime a word is translated 'wine' that it must refer to alcohol." Could you tell me what the definiation as you understand it is in this verse; the first of Jesus miracles. If you do not want to carry on this discussion Please let me know. These are my thoughts and if you do not want to discuss it please let me know. These are some things that bother me about the abstinence position. No where does the bible say do not drink wine. Period. If abstinence was what the bible intended I believe it would make that statement. The only conclusion I can draw from my studies is it definitely says do not get drunk. There is a big difference in abstinence and moderation. I believe the abstinence position is going beyond what scripture says. If a person is going to take the abstinence position why not take it from a cultural perspective rather than a biblical one. Many christians do not buy into the abstinence stance taken by many preachers and I believe this is what turns so many people off from going to church; getting beat over the head time after time about a subject that there is an ongoing debate in christianity about. It seems you as well as other preachers try to spin the fermentation, alcohol, words to try to make it seem that the verses do not say what they obviously say. What say you? Sister Val |
