241 | Which teaching | Matt 14:29 | Pastor Glenn | 66111
Meredith, As you mentioned, the faith of the woman of Canaan, was great. And notice that she was an outsider. But she didn't let that stop her from coming to Jesus. Her faith brought healing to her daughter. Here is another example of an outsider with faith: Luke 4 27And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian." “…but only the Syrian; for none besides had faith to apply himself to the prophet for a cure. Christ himself often met with greater faith among Gentiles than in Israel. And here he mentions both these instances, to show that he did not dispense the favour of his miracles by private respect, but according to God's wise appointment.” http://www.gospelcom.net/eword/comments/luke/mh/luke4.htm It is bad when outsiders can come to God and trust Him more than those of us that attend every church service, while being fearful and unbelieving about everything that God wants to do in our lives. 243 | does prayer produce measureable results? | Matt 16:4 | Pastor Glenn | 69383
dennis2tw, Welcome to the forum. Matthew 16 4A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet[1] Jonah." And He left them and departed. It would talk a prophet on the order of Elijah to hear from God and pull it off, but Jonah like prophets is all that God sends to "A wicked and adulterous generation" such as ours. Remember that Jonah performed no miracles for Ninevah, but they believed God anyway and repented. Therefore Jesus said: Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. We already have the testimony of thousands that were touched by the miracles of Jesus Christ's 3 year ministry that changed history. He alone fulfilled vast numbers of Hebrew prophecies. God knows that this generation is full of those that are lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Biblically, it seems that God grants more miracles to those that are being decieved by Satan, but are also likely to respond in faith. God knows our hearts, but all too often our hearts are no good. So I do not feel that God will show Himself in a study in these times. Based on all that He has already done and shown through the centuries I think that He would choose not to. But, if you want to see His miracles, go out on missionary trips to the jungles of Africa, the far reaches of China and other lands that have been oppressing Christianity and I believe that God will show Himself strong through your hands as the Spirit moves. 244 | does prayer produce measureable results? | Matt 16:4 | Pastor Glenn | 69405
You are right about that EdB. God is doing great miracles here everyday, but we don't always pay attention. Like when the firemen stayed with one woman in a wheelchair at the WTC on 9/11. God saved them after the building collapsed. Also, the 9 men who were trapped in a mine a few months ago. Many of us prayed for them and one led them in prayer in their midst. God delivered them. My assistant pastor is a former drug dealer. He and his wife are also former drug abusers just a few years ago. God delivered them and now they are among my biggest helpers at our church in the heart of Chicago, IL. God has blessed me personally to quickly find new employment after only 5 weeks of being laid off. My present engineering job pays double what I was making before so I am well blessed to provide for my wife and 8 children. Yes, one wife and eight children. Did I stutter brother? God is still performing great miracles indeed. Pastor Glenn |

245 | What is a cult? | Matt 18:6 | Pastor Glenn | 90728
Truthfinder, You said that you are no longer a Jehovah's Witness. I wonder if that has changed again. You said, "Clearly, cults are generally understood to be religious groups with radical views and practices that clash with what is accepted today as normal social behavior." What is a cult? The bible has something to say about "the spirit of error". When the bible warns against the spirit of "anti-Christ", it refers also to the spirit of error. Whereas, the Witnesses warn against "anti-Jehovah", while also belittle-ing Christ as the angel Michael. It seems that they have mis-identified the wrong "Door". This is an enormous error! Why? 1 John 4 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3and every spirit that does not confess that[1] Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 4You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them. 6We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. They are so concerned about "small" things like using the name Jehovah. They look down on the use of "LORD" instead of "Jehovah". However, I notice that they have no problem with the huge error of calling the Holy Spirit an "active force", while the bible warns against blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. Why? The "radical views" of the Jehovah's witnesses are very appearent. Pastor Glenn |

246 | Literal or Not? | Matt 19:4 | Pastor Glenn | 92877
journey_me, You asked: "...how do we distibguish metaphors, parables, and symbols?" The bible identifies when things are not literal as when Jesus mentions creation: Matthew 19:4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made[19:4 NU-Text reads [created.] them at the beginning "made them male and female,'[ Genesis 1:27; 5:2] ] "When discusiing creation you are lead to believe that the bible is literal? Where is the proof that the Genesis creation story should be read as such? " Without a literal Adam and Eve creation story, the "original sin" cannot be taken litterally either. Then the need for a Savior also falls so there is no longer a need for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. "Where is the proof that the Genesis creation story should be read as such?" Where is any indication in scripture that the Genesis creation story can be read as none literal? Pastor Glenn |

247 | Literal or Not? | Matt 19:4 | Pastor Glenn | 92900
journey_me, Please notice that my last question was not exactly the negative of your question. I purposely threw in "...any indication in scripture ...". "Outside" of scripture there is His creation itself that declares His handywork: Rom 1 20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, |

249 | interpret Matthew 20:20-23 | Matt 20:20 | Pastor Glenn | 141827
Hello Silvio, By asking to sit at Jesus' right hand and left, James and John were requesting 2nd and 3rd highest positions in the Kingdom of God. The main point that the Lord wanted them to know is that His Kingdom was the reverse of what they knew of earthly kingdoms. You see, in God's Kingdom, the higher your position, the more slave (servant) duties required: Mark 10 42 But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, "You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44 And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." I hope this helps, Pastor Glenn |

251 | On signs of the times | Matt 24:29 | Pastor Glenn | 60738
Inheavenseyes, The tribulation will destroy a large percentage of the world population in just a few years. No one will asking if it has happened yet. It will be clearly by far the worst series of disasters of all time. It consists of much more than just wars and famines. Pastor Glenn |

252 | follow-up on the signs | Matt 24:29 | Pastor Glenn | 60755
The great tribulation will be so obvious that no one will fail to notice it. Yes we are to consider the famines, earthquakes and wars as fulfilling signs or the APPROACH of His coming rapture of the church. Most Christians believe that He will rapture the church just before the great Tribulation. I do not know when the Tribulation or rapture will be, but the tribulation will last 7 years. God bless, Pastor Glenn |

253 | Judas death? Matt and Acts different | Matt 27:7 | Pastor Glenn | 87815
CMMiller, It is well understood how others can perform tasks for someone else acting as their agent, especially if they are disabled or dead. Mat 27 5Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood." 7And they consulted together and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced, 10and gave them for the potter's field, as the LORD directed me."[Jeremiah 32:6-9] Acts 1 16"Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus; 17for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry." 18(Now this man purchased a field with the wages of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his entrails gushed out. 19And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem; so that field is called in their own language, Akel Dama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20"For it is written in the Book of Psalms: "Let his dwelling place be desolate, And let no one live in it';[Psalm 69:25] The question is really of whose name went on the deed to the property? Who would doubt that it was Judas' name on the deed? Yes Judas fell, after a time his body fell. Are you asking whether the rope, his neck, or the tree gave way? Whatever, it does not change the fact that he hung himself. Pastor Glenn |

254 | how did judes die | Matt 27:8 | Pastor Glenn | 151942
Hello revgeary60, The chief preists bought the feild using Judas' money. He had already hung himself, but afterwards, his body fell from the tree and his belly burst open. The field was called the field of blood because it was purchased with the blood money to betray Christ. Your brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn Matthew 27 3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to it!" 5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself. 6 But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, "It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood." 7 And they consulted together and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. 8 Therefore that field has been called the Field of Blood to this day. 9 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced, 10and gave them for the potter's field, as the LORD directed me." |

255 | Did God cause the tsunami | Mark | Pastor Glenn | 141390
Hello Higgy, "But don’t worry; I don’t believe this to be an act of God. Before Jesus was sent to earth, God would have used such disasters to punish the wicked, but we are off the new way. " Can you provide scripture to support these statements? What do you mean by "we are of(f) the new way"? We may not understand why so many people were killed from many countries, but how do we know that it was not an act of God? Amos 3 6 If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the LORD have done it? 7 Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. "We have been given the chance to ask for forgiveness in believing that Jesus came to earth and was crucified for our sins. In doing so those who believe in Jesus and try to obey Gods laws have nothing to fear." Amen. Pastor Glenn |

256 | Did God cause the tsunami | Mark | Pastor Glenn | 141455
Hello Higgy, "... Therefore why would God allow this act when he is a loving God, Concerned for All life." What if I told you that God killed two Christian people for lying to the Holy Spirit. What if I said that they were a married couple that conspired to tell the same lie. Would you believe that God really did that since, as you say, "He is a loving God"? Or would God simply wait until they died naturally years later? Also, what if a Christian child was continually disobedient to his parents all his life? Would you expect that God might shorten his life or let him live longer than normal to have more time to repent? Your Brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

257 | Did God cause the tsunami | Mark | Pastor Glenn | 141493
“Hi Pastor Glen, What you do in this life is judged when Jesus Returns, why Question me or try to trip me up. “ Well, hello again Higgy! You are right. What we do in this life is judged when Jesus returns. But, the bible tells us that God provides consequences now in this life also. This fact has not changed in New Testament times either. I was not trying to trip you up. What I was trying to do is inspire you to read and study your bible concerning these questions. My previous questions were from two New Testament scriptures that specifically apply to our question here. In your last post, you spoke about Mark 13. That was good, but it was not specific enough concerning the question of whether God provides consequences in this life, as well as in the Great Judgment. “Do you believe God judges and punishes people for their sins once they commit them. If so Pastor Glen why would Jesus judge us for what we did in our life time. “ That is a very good question. Let’s not go on my pre-conceived understandings. Let’s search the scriptures daily to find out whether these things are so. First, here are scriptures concerning searching the bible: John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. “This is not a perfect world; we are cursed ever since ADAM and Eve eat from the tree of knowledge. Natural disasters are part of this imperfect world, that’s why this world will be consumed in the lake of fire, making the way for a New World and New Heaven. This is also why we have an AID’s epidemic in Africa and elsewhere in the world, or do think this is Gods doing?. “ Whether disasters and epidemics come “directly” from God or “indirectly” by man’s evil ways, is not the question. We do know that He has used disasters like the Great Flood and plagues like He brought on Egypt in the past. He also brought consequences on King David for his sins. So the question is “has God changed the way He handles sin in this life”? “We are on our last chance, …. Those in this world who persecute Christians are not struck down dead instantly for their deeds, …. “ It is true that “Those in this world who persecute Christians are not struck down dead instantly for their deeds…”. But the question is not whether or not they are struck down “instantly”. God often give some time for repentance, as you say. But He does punish sin in this life: Psa 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. Psa 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Psa 37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. Psa 37:10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. “I am disappointed that you as a Pastor have not grasped this fundamental truth. … The Bible explains God’s Holy Word in Black and White and it is so clear to understand.” Higgy I am also disappointed that you did not answer my questions directly. You see, those questions were based on New Testament scriptures that you really need to know and study. “AS I SAID “God is a loving God” he has given us time to repent, for God does not want to lose one soul to the devil. As Jesus said if a Shepard loses one sheep does he not leave the rest to search for that lost sheep? This is how great the Lords love is for us. But if we chose to go our own way through this world, then we can only accept to be punished for not accepting Jesus as our lord and master in this world and the next.” The scripture concerning the Shepard that leaves the 99 to find the one lost is one of my favorite in the bible. Then are you agreeing with me when you say “But if we chose to go our own way through this world, then we can only accept to be punished for not accepting Jesus as our lord and master in this world and the next.”? “I don’t mean to offend you with this reply, but I just can’t understand the content of your reply to me.” My previous questions were from the following scriptures. Please read them in context and answer my previous questions about them: Acts 5:2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. Ephesians 6:2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; Your Brother in Christ, Pastor Glenn |

258 | What common beliefs does the Forum have? | Mark 9:39 | Pastor Glenn | 91150
justme, I believe in the virgin birth. By the way, it seems that Jesus set the limits very well in Mark 9 38 Now John answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us." 39But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40For he who is not against us is on our side. 41For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward. 42 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 260 | better for him if a millstone were hung? | Mark 9:39 | Pastor Glenn | 94641
Mark 9 38 Now John answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us." 39But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. " In light of verse 42 I would be afraid to attack Word of Faith followers or anyone else that are working in Jesus' name. Some might say that WOF have a different Jesus, but I notice in this scripture that Jesus did not make that distiction. There is a danger in trying to say that some have a different Jesus. The Jesus of the Mormons is a different story. The Mormons make it obvious. Galatians 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Romans 12 Behave Like a Christian 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. 14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. 17Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,"[1] says the Lord. 20Therefore "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head."[2] 21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
