2361 | Am I accountable for what I don't know? | 2 Tim 2:15 | Mommapbs | 46517
Greetings virtouswoman! "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." Romans 1:20 (read the rest of this chapter) "There is no fear of God before their eyes." Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. Romans 3:18-20 "Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment." Ecc. 11:9 We are all accountable before God and therefore should make every effort to discover what pleases Him. We have His Word on the matter, just because we don't know it is NOT an excuse to sin! The solution: read it! "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word." Psalm 119:9 Now, let me give you a personal example. A new believer had visited a medium with a group of friends. When she told me about her experience I told her that God's Word forbids this. She was stricken and declared, "I never knew this before!" She was accountable. Her response? She repented. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 I hope these Scriptures help! Mommapbs |

Hank, this indeed does intimidate (me at least). mommapbs
2363 | To Post or Not to Post? | 2 Tim 2:15 | Mommapbs | 119294
Hank - in Fl for 3 weeks and did not have MY computer! (You understand don't you?!) I've been reading some of the questions and replies . . . let's say, at times I am disappointed in what gets written on BOTH ends. The question about the degrees of punishment in hell was a bit disturbing - the answer almost made hell seem palatable yet the reality of an eternity apart from God should not only be sobering, but motivate us as well!(Mt 8:12; Mark 9:43) My two cents. Also, I'm STILL reading Colson's "How Now Shall We Live." I facilitate a discussion on this text each week, so that keeps me busy, but as the Spirit moves I'll jump in here - hopefully the water will be deep enough! mommapbs |

2365 | Called According To HIS Purpose-Ministry | 2 Tim 2:15 | Mommapbs | 121628
Greetings! I'm not going to question your calling, but I do have some concerns about your preparedness. From our recent dialog, it appeared that you were not clear on the doctrine of propitiation. How can one who does not understand the elementary teaching of the Gospel play a role in the ordination of others? I would suggest that you prepare yourself first. 2 Tim 2:15; 4:6 Are you currently under the teaching of an elder or Pastor? In this way, when those under your care have questions (such as you first posed on this Forum) you will be able to answer them. Being set apart by God for God is humbling. Yet I suspect that there is always a certain amount of pride associated with this that the believer struggles with. Might I suggest that those who you perceive as being called into ministry be brought before the church for examination and let the church confirm their appointment? Jesus warns us about being "blind guides." Lk 6:39 Blessings, mommapbs |

2366 | Is hetero-anal sex a sin? | 2 Tim 2:20 | Mommapbs | 131906
Does this violate God's created design - he created some vessels for noble purposes (marital pleasure) and others for ignoble purposes, such as elmination of waste. I think that this pretty much answers MY question about this subject - what about you? mommapbs |

2367 | Did God grant Simon repentance Acts 8:24 | 2 Tim 2:25 | Mommapbs | 152152
Can man repent apart from the enabling of God? Please read Acts 8:18-24. Peter gave instruction to Simon, and left the result up to God (v22). By Simon's response (v 24) what can we conclude; did God grant Him repentance?
2368 | Did God grant Simon repentance Acts 8:24 | 2 Tim 2:25 | Mommapbs | 152164
Simon's sin was identified and a consequence was pronounced. But, did Simon obey Peter's instruction in v 22? In v 24 it is implied that he feared the consequence of his sin, but where do we see that he repented of it? Can this be implied just because he wasn't struck dead like Ananias and Sapphira? What would this suggest to us as believers? When we are confronted with personal sin by another, can that person pray our repentance for us? Is it possible that when we ask others to pray for us, we neglect to see the necessity of coming in repentance to the Lord personally? So, for Simon, I still wonder if by his request for others to pray for him that we can indeed conclude that personal repentance had ocurred. |

2369 | The Ultimate Expression of Narcissism | 2 Tim 3:2 | Mommapbs | 47342
Homosexuality - The Ultimate Expression of Narcissism! (DISCLAIMER: To avoid any misunderstanding of my intent, please understand that I am not characterizing those individuals who choose a life of "singleness" in my thesis! I believe that those who choose not to marry may find their completion in a relationship with God. The Lord is not only our Perfect Parent, but He tells us He will be our husband as well. "For your Maker is your husband- the Lord Almighty is his name- the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth." Isa 54:5) According to God’s Word, (2 Tim 3:1) "difficult times" will characterize the "last days." The Apostle Paul identifies the attributes of such a world in his letter to Timothy: “For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy” 2 Timothy 3:2 One, in particular, has caught my attention; "For men will be lovers of self." Narcissism, or self love, is more than just a self-centered pre-occupation. In its purest form, it totally rejects the Creator and His Creation – perhaps it even attempts to deify humanity! When God created the first man and woman, He took the woman from the man. Eve has often been described as Adam’s “missing parts.” “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him’. (God recognized the need for intimate relationship and provided for it!) Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man.’ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” Genesis 2:18-24 The "one flesh" aspect of this verse is not necessarily sexual - but rather it is the way God sees man as he was created; re-united with parts that he is missing; parts that will complement and complete him. “Opposites attract.” The opposite of man is woman. Heterosexuals and homosexuals both recognize a need for completion. Research has shown that homosexual men often seek partners who have qualities they lack. Yet when man chooses to “complete himself” with another of the same gender, he is rejecting the plan of completion God has provided. (Gen 2:18) To me, it's like looking in the mirror and seeking gratification from what is seen. (Remember that when Adam awoke from his surgical slumber, he didn't see himself; he saw EVE - WOW: what o woman!) In essence, homosexual choice asserts that THIS way is (equal to or) better than God's way! From the media, to our classrooms, and even many of our pulpits, homosexuality is not only tolerated, it is promoted. It is touted as an accepted, "alternative lifestyle." Now if there is an alternative, then there must also be a standard to deviate from! God's design, it seems, is no longer adequate to meet the desires of our progressive society. Yet, we all know, "It is not good for the man to be alone" . . . So the real question becomes, WHO “will make a helper suitable for him.”? Respectfully Submitted, Mommapbs |

2370 | How will their folly "be obvious to all" | 2 Tim 3:9 | Mommapbs | 133752
Is "their folly" the godlessness that has been described in vv 2-5? "For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these." These men are further described in v 8 as men who "oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected in regard to the faith." Are believers just as "blind" to the subtle workings of godlessness within our culture as suggested in vv 6-7? How will their folly "be obvious to all"? |

2371 | How will their folly "be obvious to all" | 2 Tim 3:9 | Mommapbs | 133760
EdB - point taken on the result of godlessness . . . you asked "As we watch men practice the things described in verse 2-5 do we not see the destructive results manifested in their lives? The hurt, the fear, the turmoil, the lack of love, the loneliness, the desperation, the separation?" I suspect that many of our churches are filled with sand dwellers. Yet we've been instructed to build on the "Rock." Jesus didn't ignore sin or the result of sin in His midst . . . Additional thoughts: 2 Tim 3:1 "But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come." Are we not in those difficult times because of man's "folly?" IMO, "they will not make further progress" follows the activity of godless men in v6; to me this is encouraging. Neither will the deciever or those being decieved make any more progress than God allows (their folly will be obvious to all). To me, it is a reminder of God's supremacy and sovereignty. It is also imo, a sign of the times (v 1) in which we live. "But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Luke 21:28 mommapbs |

2372 | How will their folly "be obvious to all" | 2 Tim 3:9 | Mommapbs | 133810
EdB - I find that the longer and closer I walk with God, the more aware I am of my own self-centered nature, how far short I fall . . . and how undeserving I am of His mercy and Grace - but they are mine; it just overwhelms me!(Romans 5:8) The joy of my salvation eclipses all. With that being said, I don't think that man is becoming more self-centered, imo, THAT is the root problem - man's (sin) nature; it is a consequence of Adam's rebellion against God. IMO, the expression of that self-centeredness is not only being promoted, but "legalized." So yes, I agree, we should expect to see a sinful society grow like wildfire in the medium of humanism that it spawns, feeds and protects. Blessings to you! mommapbs |

2373 | Who is Mithra? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Mommapbs | 28896
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 2 Timothy 3:16 Mithra does not appear in God's Word, therefore it does not relate to Jesus or to the Christian faith other than as an "antichrist." 1 John 4:3 "and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world." We are warned against adding to or taking away from what God has given! "I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; Rev. 22:18 |

2374 | how do we know that verse is accurate? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Mommapbs | 49161
1 Chr 28:9 "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever." Bravostarr - This is a very sobering verse. Please read it and decide if you REALLY DESIRE to KNOW the TRUTH. Truth is a person. Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6 "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." Read John 1. Jesus is the Word. Bottom line is this, either you accept God's Word as TRUTH or you reject it. It's your decision; choose carefully. In Christ's love, Mommapbs |

Hi KJ - I understand completely what you are saying, BUT I do feel that Rick Warren has some very useful things to say to the Church. For several years I have felt like I didin't fit. This work has shown me that I do have a place (a purpose) that God has designed for me. Blessings, mommapbs PS: Still waiting for you to complete that personal profile! Who cares if it's long, just let us in on who you are and where you are in your walk with the Lord! |

Greetings Ken John! At one time we were all "rotten sinners" saved by Grace!" God's grace is sufficient; we don't need any more than He gives us (nor can we appropriate more)at the moment of salvation. The problem for most of us is that we don't live with this Grace in mind. We continually see ourselves as "rotten sinners" when God says "You are PRECIOUS to me! (Is 43:4;25) Thanks for sharing with us! May the Lord bless you and yours! mommapbs |

Kalos, As a fellow bondservant . . ."With good will render service, as to the Lord, and not to men," Eph 6:7 And, Psalm 19:14 comes to mind: "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight,O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer." Now, back to you: what words (or services) are acceptable in God's sight? Chapter and verse please :) Let's not "guess" about this answer, ok? mommapbs |
