2281 | traditions and tradition living | Col 2:8 | Mommapbs | 134420
Greetings - When we live our lives based upon our performance and the opinions of others we are living according to the empty and deceptive philosphy that is the basis for the traditions of men. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Prov 23:7). If we believe that we are who God says we are in Christ - forgiven, totally accepted, pleasing and complete in Him, we will live accordingly, with the objective of glorifiyng God in all things. How we dress will not be an issue. Although unique, IN Christ, we are all the same and each of us should be a reflection of God to the world. We honor Him when we honor how He made us. A woman can certainly reflect her femininity in slacks, and a man can reflect his masculinity in a kilt. I hope this helps you sort through the trap of legalism that is hinted at in your question. Blessings, mommapbs |

Greeetings Doc - Imo, the "old paths" are NOT the traditions of men that Col 2:8 was speaking about! Blessings, mommapbs |

We honor God when we honor how He made us. Transvestitism does not do this! (Oh my, just a thought- some reading this might opt for no clothes at all!) Blessings, mommapbs Blessings, mommapbs |

2284 | traditions and tradition living | Col 2:8 | Mommapbs | 134432
I read through Lev 18 and was struck by verse 25. 'For the land has become defiled, therefore I have brought its punishment upon it, so the land has spewed out its inhabitants.' Might there be an admonition here for people to consider before "approving" what God says is defiling? I'm thinking about this in conjunction with America's responsibility in November. |

2285 | Taught of the Spirit today? | Col 3:23 | Mommapbs | 30928
Greetings in Jesus Name! Earlier this week I had a very humbling experience as I was obedient to God in service to a friend. Afterward, I struggled with all sorts of "stuff" like self doubt and approval issues. However, I have incredible peace about the situation as God nearly shouted the following to me: Seek the applause of Heaven rather than the praise of men! Remember Who you are really working for! (Your Heavenly Father always claps the loudest!) |

2286 | I need a reference on Retirements. | Col 3:23 | Mommapbs | 86761
To my knowledge, the only retirement plan Scripture has to offer is found in physical death - That's real resting from one's labors! I suspect you don't want to use that. God calls us to walk with Him, to follow Him wherever He leads us. Retirement from one aspect of our lives to another opens up a host of new opportunities for us to experience. If we bear in mind Who our real "Boss" is, we will reap all sorts of benefits (the list of these is found in God's Word!) God always calls us from something, to something, for something. If we follow His leading, we will enjoy a sense of purpose and we will know the peace of His presence in all we do. I hope this helps! mommapbs |

2287 | Making the most of the opportunity, how? | Col 4:5 | Mommapbs | 113208
How do we conduct ourselves wisely? What does this entail? Something else to consider in light of this verse: Brian McLaren in, "More Ready Tha You Realize", makes this observation about believers: "God has sent us into the world as ambassadors and agents of God's love, and yet many of us have never arrived at our destination. So in that light, who is lost - them or us?" |

How does another's firm stand in the Lord enable us to "really live"? What is the priciple behind this?
2289 | Really live? | 1 Thess 3:8 | Mommapbs | 151634
Thanks Doc - Our faith is firm in the Lord, and it is the Lord who does all the work, so by refelecting upon this I can understand how seeing His work in the lives of others would be an encouragement to me when I am discouraged. God is faithful. mommapbs |

2291 | Searching for the truth | 1 Thess 4:17 | Mommapbs | 89548
FytRobert: Greetings in our Savior's name! It has been a while since we have dialogued. I am wondering how your search goes? Glad to see you are asking questions. Blessings, mommapbs |

2292 | Searching for the truth | 1 Thess 4:17 | Mommapbs | 89702
Greetings! What has promted your line of questioning here? (I see that someone has already asked this too! Also, bear in mind what others have written, spiritual death and physical death are entirely different! There are those, according to 1 Thess 4:17 who will not physically die as we know or understand it. On the other hand, spiritual death, or eternal separation from God, is a very real reality for those who reject the Righteousness of God as revealed in Jesus.) I am SO GLAD that God made an "exception for me!" You see He said, the penalty for sin is death (or separation from God). I am a sinner. Therefore, I have no hope but spiritual death, or do I? God, in His great love and mercy provided a Way for me to escape this penalty, yet still satisify the demand of His justice and His Word. He provided Jesus, to take my place, to take your place, so that we could be the "exception" to His decree. God has said, "it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment" (Heb 9:27) If Enoch and Elijah did not physically "die," did God not keep His Word? How do you, or anyone else for that matter, know what He has planned to fulfill this? Our understanding of physical death is very limited. When God took Enoch, "he was no more." We have come to believe that Enoch did not physically die, we also have the record of Elijah who was taken into Heaven, bypassing death. So is this promised to believers at the coming of the Lord in the air. According to 1 Cor 15:50, we also know that "flesh and blood" cannot inherit eternal life, so God must have done something so that those who did not physically die, as we understand death, could enter His Presence. What or how is an unanswerable question! In some matters, God keeps secrets from us (Dt 29:29). How He will accomplish this is yet to be seen. It is here where faith takes over, FytRobert. Either you believe that God is Who He says He is in His Word or you continue to question His nature. Don't look for "exceptions" that don't concern you! Personally, there is much ground to be covered in the future and many prophesies have yet to be fulfilled. Exactly how God will accomplish these and bring history to a conclusion are only partially revealed in the Bible - bottom line is this: God saves those who put their trust in Him. Jesus is the Way - walk in it. I hope this encourages you! Sometimes the Truth is concealed so that we must just trust His Presence in our midst. My prayer for you is that you will be sensitive to the affirmation of the Holy Spirit and KNOW the Truth (even if you don't understand it) of Whom you seek! Blessings! mommapbs PS: I'm going away until 7/26, so I will be unable to respond until then! Stay close to God's Word - search the Scriptures, PRAY(!), ask questions but don't accept the word of men over the Gospel of God! PRAY again for discernment and wisdom to understand what God is saying to YOU! |

Greetings Jay! I only have two days before I leave my computer AGAIN for two weeks! Thought I'd ask you to identify what the "first premise" that churches teach is and which you also call a "stumbling block" to unbelievers? You wrote: "I will examine the first premise most churches teach that the Scriptures plainly contradict, but by its application casts many a stumbling block before the would-be believer." In our Savior's Name, Jesus! mommapbs PS: A belated welcome to the Forum! |

2295 | Is the rapture biblically supported? | 1 Thess 4:17 | Mommapbs | 132143
Greetings Tim - although I agree with the concept, I can't agree with the promotion of a "catching away" prior to any "tribulation" as prophesied . . . yet I do see this taking place prior to the out pouring of God's wrath upon the earth. (1 Thess 1:10; 5:9) What bothers me is that believers may become disillusioned when these things (events as prophesied up until the vial or bowl judgments) happen upon the earth. I do not want my children to fear, but to patiently stand firm in their faith and wait patiently for the Lord; to not be surprised because Jesus has plainly stated, John 16:33 that we are to expect "tribulation." Indeed, many our our members are enduring persecution, hardship and martyrdom for their faith in Jesus across the globe. They are not being "raptured" out of their "troubles" . . . why is it that western believers think that they will escape and be carried to heaven on a cloud of ease? Most likely because our pulpits have preached this message . . . imo, someone is going to be surprised, may it be me!! Blessings, mommapbs |

2296 | Is the rapture biblically supported? | 1 Thess 4:17 | Mommapbs | 132157
Thanks Tim! I trust that your preaching is reflective of this! The teaching that my family is exposed to is not in accordance with this position so I do a little "damage control" (using God's Word as my support, I respectfully disagree with the preacher to those under my care) from time to time. Blessings to you and yours, t |

Greetings Kalos - what does the "falling away" or the great apostasy look like? How will we recognize it? Why don't our pulpits preach on this? Blessings, mommapbs |

2298 | where is the rapture? | 1 Thess 4:17 | Mommapbs | 151755

2299 | where is the rapture? | 1 Thess 4:17 | Mommapbs | 151782
Doc - I really struggle with preaching a pre-trib "rapture" of the church. Although I lean toward a pre-wrath "snatch" - I'm not going to go to the mat here. I believe that this reference supports a pre-millenial rapture of the Church. Also, v 15 refers to His coming - what coming? Since He came once - to die, the next time must be the second. Lastly, Acts 1:11 informs us that He will descend the same way He ascended. He ascended into heaven and a cloud received Him (Acts 1:9)- which would eventually conceal Him from their sight, so shouldn't we also expect to see Him revealed through the clouds as He descends? I think 1 Thess 4:17 echos this well. My 2 cents. I hope I haven't stirred the pot too much here. Blessings, mommapbs |
