21 | Does the OT talk about resurrection? | Matt 22:30 | Listener | 16881
Steve, About the resurrection, one place is Daniel 12:1-2 I can't think of any relating resurrection to marriage. Daniel 12 1 "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people--everyone whose name is found written in the book--will be delivered. 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt |

22 | Does the OT talk about resurrection? | Matt 22:30 | Listener | 69226
Searcher, I know it's been awhile since you asked your question, but it's a good one, and has motivated some meditation on the Lord and His word. Here are a couple of additional (adding to Daniel 12) references in the OT to resurrection: Isaiah 26:19 Your dead shall live; my dead bodies shall arise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust; for your dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast forth the dead. Job 19:26 After my skin is destroyed, Then in my flesh shall I see God, 27 Whom I, even I, shall see on my side. My eyes shall see, and not as a stranger. “My heart is consumed within me. Ezekiel 37:5 Thus says the Lord Yahweh to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. 6 I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh on you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am Yahweh. Hope you're still out there, hope you're still in the word. May the Lord bless you. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Listener |

23 | Does the OT talk about resurrection? | Matt 22:30 | Listener | 72549
Tim, I know it's been awhile since you wrote the note - but... Carefull examination of the context of 2 Thess 2:7 shows that the one restrained is the antichrist (the beast). Revelation 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. Revelation 20:1 ¶And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. So it seems that an angel is given authority to remove the restraint from the antichrist allowing him to ascend from the bottomless pit. This seems straightforward to me but I've seen very few others who see it the same way. Please let me know what you think. Thanks, Listener |

24 | What are the signs of jesus coming? | Matt 24:1 | Listener | 47313
There are several in the scriptures, and some good places to start are Deut 28, 29, Matthew 24, Luke 21, 2 Thessalonians 2. Most of the signs in Matthew 24 and Luke 21 occur in various degrees throughtout history (ie. earthquakes, wars, famines) One a little less ambiguous is the revival of the Jews: Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: But, in my humble opinion, the one you can really hang your hat on is the "abomination of desolation" spoken of in Matthew 24:15, Daniel 8:13, 11:31, 12:11 and 2 Thessalonians 2:1 ¶Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. 3 ¶Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Hope this helps, Listener |

25 | Rapture vs. Glorious Appearing? | Matt 24:27 | Listener | 16448
The rapture and the glorious appearing are linked in scripture. The "stealth rapture" makes an interesting twist at the box office I cannot find a home for the idea in the scriptures. The following verse indicates the sound of his coming and the rapture: 1 Thessalonians 4 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a ***loud command***, with the ***voice of the archangel*** and with the ***trumpet call of God***, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. The following equates the blessed hope of the rapture and the glorious appearing: Titus 2 13looking for the ***blessed hope and glorious appearing*** of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, The following equates His coming and the rapture: John 14 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, ***I will come again and receive you to Myself***; that where I am, there you may be also. The following indicate the visibility of his coming: Matthew 24 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Revelation 1 7Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. The following indicates the glory of his coming at the time when he gives rest to the saints (the rapture) 2 Thessalonians 1 6 God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels. |

26 | What is 'the fruit of the vine'? | Matt 26:29 | Listener | 35162
Thanks Mommapbs, Your response really got at the meat of the passage. There is a new day coming, to be announced by the voice of an archangel and the trumpet of God. The King of Kings will appear in blazing glory, all flesh will see Him together, and He will put all things under His feet. We will enjoy a wonderfull banquet together - Him and all His own. Come quickly Lord Jesus. See you there, Mommapbs, Listener |

27 | meaning of Matthew 27:52-53 | Matt 27:52 | Listener | 102618
Greetings Makarios, I think your first post was more in line with scripture. 1 Cor 15:23 But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. 24Then the end will come... This verse says that those who belong to Jesus will be resurrected when He comes, not at the crucifiction or His resurrection. Those in Matthew 27:52 were likely raised like Lazarus, not with glorified, incorruptible bodies. Listener |

28 | meaning of Matthew 27:52-53 | Matt 27:52 | Listener | 102714
As you say, this line of thinking does inspire deeper study. In looking at all the verses in the NT which contain a form of the word "resurrect", I noticed a couple of things which tend to confirm our thinking (or at least what I think is our thinking): 1) The passages which reference the resurrection almost all seem to point to Jesus' singular resurrection. Rom 6:5 For if we have become united with [Him] in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be [in the likeness] of His resurrection, 1 Cor 15:13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised; 1 Cor 15:21 For since by a man [came] death, by a man also [came] the resurrection of the dead. and there are many more examples. 2) The few passages which reference a past plural resurrection seem to be more like Lazarus', not a glorified, incorruptible body. Heb 11:35 Women received [back] their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; Note that this passage even indicates a difference between past resurrections (other than Jesus') and "a better resurrection". 3) If many were resurrected in glorified bodies along with Jesus, wouldn't they all be "declared the Son of God", according to the following verse? Rom 1:4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, Hope I'm not wearing this topic out. Thanks, and God's peace be with you. Listener |

30 | I'm skeptical | Luke 14:26 | Listener | 101290
Hello seeking4truth, I'm skeptical too, by nature. You raised so many issues in your post ... and I certainly dont have all the answers. You are absolutely correct that christians often pick and chose what parts of scripture to obey. The teachings regarding women in church and calling men father are clear, and clearly ingnored. These are contradictions in people, not God. But there is one idea that you brought up which I would like to address. That God says to love our enemies and to do good to those who spitefully use us, ye He will destroy His enemies. Who can deny that God in Jesus Christ, did ... does, love His enemies. Rom 5:6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Rom 5:7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath [of God] through Him. Rom 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Yes, God loves us. Yes, if we are not justified by His blood we will suffer His wrath. I know this is not a pat answer, and I am not trying to argue you into belief. I am taking your name at face value, that you are truly seeking for truth. I encourage you to keep seeking, relentless like Jacob at Bethel, Gen 32. If you do, you will be rewarded. Heb 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please [Him,] for he who comes to God must believe that He is and [that] He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Listener |

31 | What is meant by "last day" in John 6:44 | John 6:44 | Listener | 123437
This is an excellent question, and I would caution you against trying to impose any preconceptions you may have about prophecy on this passage. This passage runs contrary to some popular misconceptions about the order of end-time events. As you point out, "last day" should be the last day OF SOMETHING. The great tribulation is counted in days: Dan 12:11 "From the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation is set up, [there will be] 1,290 days. Dan 12:12 "How blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the 1,335 days! Dan 12:13 "But as for you, go [your way] to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise [again] for your allotted portion at the end of the age." Also see Rev 12:6, Rev 11:3, Mat 24:29 The Bible clearly descibes the "days" of tribulation. Then the Bible describes "The Day of the Lord". Matt 24:36 ¶ "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. Matt 24:30 "And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. Luke 17:24 "For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. 1Th 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you. 1Th 5:2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. 2Pe 3:8 But don't forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. Clearly, "the last day" follows the days of tribulation, followed by "the day of the Lord". Perhaps "the last day" terminates "this present evil age" Gal 1:4 who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us out of this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father -- Gal 1:5 to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen. |

32 | What does Fear God really mean? | Acts 13:16 | Listener | 35401
Wak, My favorite "fear God" passages are actually "fear not" passages. Like Luke 2:8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ[1] the Lord. This illustrates both the fearfull and the freindly aspects of Holiness. Listener |

33 | Will all of Israel be saved? | Rom 11:26 | Listener | 32358
Kalos, While I agree with the specifics of your response, the I would like to clarify the general tone. Believers today inherit THE promise to Abraham. Romans 9:9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son. It is through the Son that Abraham is a blessing to all people. This is the substance of the promise. Galatians 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Through Jesus, His Divinity, His humanity, His death on the cross in payment for our sins and His resurrection, we inherit THE promise. We obtain forgiveness, the fellowship of the Spirit, resurrection and an eternal home with Him. John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. While we inherit the substance of the promise, the kingdom of heaven, we do not inherit the kingdom of David, the land of Israel, etc. |

34 | Will all of Israel be saved? | Rom 11:26 | Listener | 32592
Prophetically, the Romans 11:26 may be related to the passage below. This passage indicates that although only a remnant (1/3) of Israel will survive until Christ's return, the remnant will be entirely saved. Even this may not refer to each individual but the nation as a group. The greater context makes it clear that the time frame is Christ's return. Zechariah 13:8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. 9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God. |

35 | Are women not allowed to be preachers? | 1 Cor 14:40 | Listener | 43214
That is correct. Women are forbidden to be pastors, which is in line from them being in authority over men or teaching men, in the context of the church. See also 1 Timothy 2:12, 1 Timothy 3:15. Many of the greatest blessings in my life have come through women, probably more than through pastors or other men. It's not about position, it's about submission. It's about loving others by putting their needs ahead of your own. This is true for both men and women. I am convinced that many of the greatest rewards in heaven will not go to those that had the most "successfull" ministries on earth, but to those who were most faithfull despite the lack of position, rank, wealth or other worldly honors or rewards. God is faithfull and will reward openly every good deed done in secret. Matt 19:30 "But many who are first will be last; and the last, first. Matt 6:5 ¶ "When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. Matt 6:6 "But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. |

36 | going to heaven | 1 Cor 15:1 | Listener | 16450
The following verses indicate that when we "sleep" in Christ we (our souls only) go to be with him. When our bodies are resurected at the second coming (1 Thess. 4:16-18) they are made perfect and we are complete. 2 Corinthians 5 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15 50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. |

37 | what was Paul saying here? | Gal 3:17 | Listener | 43216
Let's let Paul answer in his own words: Gal 3:17 What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. And that's what Paul was saying. Seriously, these interfaces can be confusing. Please forgive my levity and repost your question with a scripture reference. Thanks, Listener |

38 | Will I go to heavan | Eph 2:8 | Listener | 16427
When this type of doubt comes to me there are three things that give me assurance. The first one is the book of 1 John. It is short and straightforward, and addresses this issue. One verse is quoted below. The second thing that helps me is to confess my sin, and appeal before God to the finished work of Christ, and submit to Him as Lord. This is much like my first real prayer when I accepted Jesus into my heart. The antidote for doubts about salvation is to walk with Jesus day by day. To spend time alone with Him (in Bible reading and prayer), to worship Him with other believers, to walk in loving obedience to Him and to share His love with others. I am not consistent, but find that when I do the above it develops the "personal relationship", and minimizes the doubts of salvation. May God bless you as you seek His face. 1 John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. |

39 | Can you loose your salvation? | Phil 2:8 | Listener | 123019
I agree with you that a person who is saved cannot lose their salvation. I am not convinced, though, that there is a great deal to be gained by trying to convince your friend that your view is correct. Is this issue a stumbling block for her? If so, you may point her to John 18:9 and John 10:27-29. Having said that, I caution you not to view salvation only as an event that happens one day. Jesus explained salvation using the parable of the sower and the ground in Luke 8. Some seed sprouted but didn't mature. Some matured and bore fruit. I don't mean to confuse the issue, but neither do I want to promulgate a "cheap grace" that the Bible doesn't teach. |

40 | can someone explain the rapture?? | 1 Thess 4:16 | Listener | 36104
Another good question. The following passage describes the rapture: 1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words. The short books of 1 and 2 Thess. give good background info. Also 1 Cor 15. When will it happen - there is a great deal of "discussion" about this. I would suggest not letting others make up your mind for you, but read Matt 24, Luke 21, I Thess, 2 Thess, Deut 28-30, Dan 7, Dan 9-12. Focus on the passages that are straightforward to you. Watch and be ready. Watch for the signs in Matt 24. Be ready for false christs and deception. Be ready for persecution. Be ready for the blessed hope and glorious return of Jesus Christ. May He find us ready, Listener |
