343 | Emergent Church question | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 177171
Greetings MJH, I don’t have a clue as to what the “Emergent Church” is or even if such a situation is prevalent today. I don’t know why one would need help in spotting, what ever it is, that would cause them to emerge if they are teaching something other then what we already have contained within the confines of the Bible? Paul pretty much zeroed in on a group that was trying to preach another Jesus, as it were. Galatians 1:7 which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you, and want to distort the gospel of Christ. It’s interesting to note the way our Secrete Service trains it’s agents to spot counterfeit money. There are millions of bogus bills in circulation and it’s literally impossible to point out all of the phony money that’s going around so to save a lot of wasted time and effort the agents just know for certain what the genuine currency looks like and all the rest are counterfeits. If the church you are attending is drifting off center from the Bible then I would say they are wrong. I am having virtually that exact same scenario, in the local assembly, where I attend and as a result I am folding up my tent and moving on. When it comes to the point where I don’t feel comfortable advising a new believer to attend the church that I attend, for spiritual growth, then I would say there is a proverbial fly in the ointment! Psalm 119:160 The sum of Thy word is truth, And every one of Thy righteous ordinances is everlasting. 1 Thes. 5:21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; Have a great day, CDBJ |

344 | Is God punishing Israel in Jer 9: 13-16? | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 177292
Greetings Emilio and welcome to the forum, God presented Israel with a conditional covenant which they continually break, as a nation, from the exodus to this very day. Proverbs 1:24 "Because I called, and you refused; I stretched out my hand, and no one paid attention; Jeremiah 11:10 "They have turned back to the iniquities of their ancestors who refused to hear My words, and they have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers." Jeremiah 13:10 'This wicked people, who refuse to listen to My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have gone after other gods to serve them and to bow down to them, let them be just like this waistband, which is totally worthless. There are numerous account in the Bible that refer to the final trouble that Israel will face but they all pale by comparison to the final trouble. Jeremiah 30:7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it. Most of Israel will be wiped out in the future but a remnant will be delivered. Romans 11:25-26 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. [26] And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: The period of time that you asked about is a foreshadowing, a type that is yet to come, i.e. not the actual situation the way I see it in Jeremiah 9:13-16. 345 | Do most live by Matthew 7:12? | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 177459
Hi GTR and welcome to the forum, I found the same thing as you found in that verse. Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. I’ve learned that the Christian way of life is actually a supernatural way of life and it can’t be accomplished in the energy of the flesh; this is due to the fact that we all have an old sin nature. This old nature residing in us has dooming us for destruction. 1 Cor. 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. The Bible, along with its truths, and the way to carry them out, where always very nebulas and abstruse to my way of thinking. But there came a day when I had an actual experience with the living author of the Bible. From that point on, the Bible started making sense to me. The Lord sure can open one’s understanding of the Bible, if they really want to know the truth that it contains, but the key to the Bible resides in one very large portions of truth that must be understood first. John 6:45 (A) It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Understanding the Bible is kind of like doing a math problem, once one knows the formula it’s easy. Have you come to that point yet in your spiritual understanding or are you still working on that part? Have fun and enjoy the forum, CDBJ |

346 | Can pastors retire? | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 177670
Hello Azure, No true believer in Christ retires as it were, they just change fields. There are scads of people that cross the paths of those in the body of Christ every day and it’s our privilege as believers to find a way to present the good news about Christ to those we come in contact with. I hope I am able to present to unbelievers, attending me at my death, the way to the precious Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Cor. 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. The only time and ambassador can cease to function as an ambassador is when he is called home. 2 Tim. 2:24-26 And the Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, [25] with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, [26] and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. Talking to people about their need for a savior isn’t work it’s a blessing that God has entrusted us with! CDBJ |

348 | I NEED A TRUE FRIEND THAT IS A CHRISTIAN | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 178352
Greetings and welcome to the forum, If you could print in lower case it sure would be easer to read! Please, please don’t list your address on this forum or any other for that matter, it sounds like you have enough problems without doing something that foolish. Have you come to the place yet where you can say for sure that you have eternal life with God if you were to pass away in the next few seconds? I know that’s a scary thought but it will give us a starting point. There is help and it’s in God’s promises, but you “must” believe what God tells you, CDBJ |

352 | trinity | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 179610
Greetings, Some of the more biblically recognized characteristic of God are as follows; Sovereignty, Righteousness, Justice, Love, Eternal Life, Omniscience, Omnipresence, Omnipotence, Immutability and Veracity; this list isn’t complete but it pretty well explains what God is like. In this sense the Bible tells us that God is One. There is no one else in existence, other then God, that has all of these special characteristics; we can say therefore, that in essence, God is One there is no other like Him. i.e. God is the only one that has these essence, if anyone could display all of these essence, they would in fact be God. The Bible points out that there are three distinct separate personalities in existence that exhibit all of these essences, as God. The Bible describes them as The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. So God is One in essence, but Three in Personalities. All three personalities have the exact same attributes, being God, all are equal as one, yet the personalities function differently but for the self same perfect results. The word for God in the Hebrew, “elohiym” is a plural word; He is not a God but “the” God, the one and only. Here is a unique instance where all three personalities are observed at the same time. Matthew 3:16-17 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. [17] And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Illustration: God knew in eternity pasts that man would sin, so God devised a perfect plan whereby He could maintain His perfect Righteousness, yet satisfy His perfect Justice. God must punish sin, but God being a Loving God doesn’t want to be separated form man for eternity. The wages for sin is death or separation from God and it must be paid because God is Holy. God can’t die as God, because He is Eternal Life. The price that God’s Holiness demands for sin is death so God in His “genius” came up with the perfect solution. One of the members of the Trinity would become a man so that God could take out His wrath for sin on That Man. In essence God said I will become a man and pay the ultimate price that I demand. Hebrews 10:5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, But a body You have prepared for Me. That is why Jesus is as the verse says; John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Jesus is the most unique person in existence. He is different from man in that He is God and he is different from God in that He is Man: He is the God Man. He is the only mediator between God and man because He is of both parties. 1 Tim. 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, This might not clear up the Trinity for you entirely but I sure hope it helps. Have a great day, CDBJ |

353 | Jesus saying I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 179872

354 | what comes first hope or faith | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 180545
Greeting and welcome to the forum, Your answer is Faith and then Hope. Speaking of Jesus; Ephes. 1:9-13 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: [10] That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: [11] In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: [12] That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. [13] In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, The word translated “hope” in the English comes to us from the word ELPIS in the Koine Greek and it actually means confidence or an earnest expectation. This confidence is the work of the Holy Spirit revealing truth to us from God’s Word the Bible, and with out the help of the Holy Spirit it’s impossible to have “hope”. The Holy Spirit doesn’t indwell a person until after they have faith in God’s Son Jesus. Enjoy the forum |

355 | what comes first hope or faith | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 180630
Hi geostephone, Here is an easy one: prove it with Scripture or we won't believe it! 2 Tim. 3:16 (NASB) All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; Psalm 119:160 (NASB) The sum of Thy word is truth, And every one of Thy righteous ordinances is everlasting. Just saying that “hope” precedes “faith”, with out supporting your hypothesis, with biblical evidence, is useless information on a Bible study forum. As 2 Timothy says, Scripture is profitable, not individual assumptions. What we personally think or assume doesn’t convey any authority; it’s what the Lord says through His Word, the Bible that counts. I don't mean to sound curt but what would be the authority behind your statement as you understand it, and why should we believe what you say apart from God’s Word? “Don’t give up”, just support you statement with biblical facts; maybe you can convince me that there is more Scripture in God’s Word that I have overlooked in favor of your synopsis. Enjoy the forum, CDBJ |

357 | parental responsibility and serving | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 180682
Greetings M-2-4 and welcome to the forum. I know exactly what you are saying and I believe the reason that most parents don’t take on the responsibility and pass on the Good News of the Bible to their children is because they don’t have anything “personally” to pass on; if you get my drift? Physically speaking: If people are starving to death and someone finds a never-ending supply of “free food” that is there for the taking, they would be so overjoyed that they would want to share it with everyone they know including their children. Jesus Christ means more to me then anything else and I appreciate what He personally did for me. I can’t help but share the Word of God with those that I come in contact with. Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Maybe those that aren’t letting their light shine don’t really have any light? John 4:14 (KJV) But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The word for “springing up” is translated from the Koine Greek word HALLOMAI, and it means to, jump, spring up, or to gush out. There aren’t many around today that fit that description! Notice in the following verse that they had been with someone; it was evident. The same goes for us when we spend time with God’s written Word. Acts 4:13 (KJV) Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, ------- that they had been with Jesus. I hope you enjoy the forum, CDBJ |

358 | what comes first hope or faith | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 180746
Hi Geo, It doesn’t work like that in the spiritual realm; seeing “isn’t” believing”, believing is seeing. John 3:3 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. The reason is because until a person is born of the spirit they don’t even have the means to receive anything from God. 1 Cor. 2:14 (KJV) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. It would be like sitting in a room without a TV set; the signals for a picture are passing through the room constantly but there is no TV set to receive the picture. God doesn’t bring or spiritual receiver to life until we fully trust in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. 2 Cor. 5:17 (NASB) Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. John 1:13 who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. One can’t even enter in to the family of God with out faith. Faith is the starting point of entering into the plan of God, John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, The word believe in the English is translated from the Koine Greek, of the original language of the New Testament, PISTIS or PISTEUO. The book of John always uses the word “believe” for PISTIS or PISTEUO whereas Paul’s writings uses the word “faith” but it’s the same exact word PISTIS or PISTEUO; believe, believeth. When the word “hope” is used in the New Testament it is translated from the original word ELPIS. Hope in the English conveys the meaning of a desire, or a wish. It would be like asking a person if they are saved and they say, “I hope so”. A person that is saved knows “absolutely for sure” that they are saved: eternal life isn’t something that they “desire”, it’s something “they already have”. ELPIS in the Greek means “absolute confidence” or something that is “confidently expected”, there is no desire or wish about it; it’s a sure thing because it all depends on Jesus and what He did. When one puts “all” of their faith (PISTIS) in God’s Son Jesus then God, through His Spirit, reveals the fact that we “absolutely” have eternal life, and ELPIS develops as we learn Bible doctrine. 1 John 5:10-13 The one who believes (PISTEUO) in the Son of God has the witness in himself; i.e.THE INDWELLIG HOLY SPIRIT) the one who does not believe (PISTEUO)God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed (PISTIS) in the witness that God has borne concerning His Son. 11And the witness is this, that God has given (COMPLITED ACTION) us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12He who has the Son (BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH) has the life; he who does not have the Son of God (NO FAITH IN JESUS) does not have the life. 13These things I have written to you who believe (PISTIS OR FAITH) in the name of the Son of God, (JESUS) in order that you may know that you have eternal life. (NOW WE EXPECT IT, ELPIS i.e. hope.) Hope follows faith because hope is a product of the indwelling Holy Spirit plus the intake of Bible doctrine. No faith in Jesus equals no indwelling so faith must come first. Have fun, CDBJ |

360 | Comforting scriptures and poems | Bible general Archive 3 | CDBJ | 180843
Greetings, That is a pain that hast to be horrid! Here is a poem that, I personally, wrote several years ago that you can share with him. A Voice From Beyond I've passed into a better place of which there is no pain. So loved one keep your grieving short, your loss has been my gain. My state is far much better then the one that you behold. It's the hope that I've been looking for in the days when I’d grow old Though grief may oft consume you with thoughts about our past, Life must go, so please be strong, this grieving will not last. This place is awe inspiring, with much array to view. I've been so overwhelmed with it, I've hardly thought of you. My first day on location I was anything but bored, My first known recollection, I was looking at the Lord. The colors are fantastic, beyond your wildest dreams. Ensuing from His throne on high, an emerald rainbow streams. Enough about my bliss for now, the problem's you're forlorn, And how to rectify the day, from which our love was torn. The secret to life’s happiness is not all that absurd. It’s found with-in the Mighty Script of God’s Eternal Word. So keep yourself in hope I ask, make the Bible your main quest, And the Lord will surely comfort you, and put your heart at rest. Make sure my love of which you trust, in abundance of profession. It must be Jesus, not the church, to support your strong confession. Finally love with much ado, use not your loss for scorning. Weeping may endure the night, but joy cometh in the morning.
