Dear Ed, You wrote "You still view our relationship with God not as a Father child relationship but rather as a manipulative. One where God being God causes us to do what He desires. That is very limiting to both us and God." But the Bible says that God is the cause... Ezek 36:26 "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Ezek 36:27 "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. God has set us free so that ,for the first time in our lives, we are able to love and desire what He loves and desires. If that's being a puppet....just call me Pinocchio.(Please no remarks about the nose). But seriously, I really don't believe we are manipulated by anything but the loving hands of the Potter. I am more than happy to submit to His plan for my life. Tell me Ed, do you not pray for God's will to be manifested in your own life? Don't you desire His power to course through your being, from head to toe? Don't you desire that your will be identical to His? I'm sure you do; and so do I. For it is no longer I who live! It is Christ who lives in me! In some way, not known by me, we remain individuals. When married a man and a woman become one flesh. Yet they do not lose their individuality. In the Trinity the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are one in essence but retain their personhood. In the same way when we become part of the body of Christ we are one with Him. So how can anyone say that to believe that God is in control of all things means that we are robots or puppets? For we are one with Him!!! One mind, one will, one desire. For now see through a glass darkly...But THEN....Ah, but then... Your brother and co-worker in Christ, John |

John Of course I desire God's will in my life, but I also have to admit at times I rebel and do it my way. God allows me that privilege. He is not surprised nor are his plans wrecked, but at times He is saddened. However since He is God He merely once again makes things go as He desires. I’m either passed by, chastened, or both hopefully learning not to rebel and to stay in God’s will. EdB |

3 | Can we disappoint the omniscient God? | Bible general Archive 2 | Radioman2 | 102207 | ||
At times God is saddened. Saddened maybe, but not disappointed. How can we disappoint the One who knew everything about us from beginning to end, before we were ever born? Disappoint -- "to fail to meet the expectation or hope of" (http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary). How could the omniscient God expect or hope something of me that He knew from eternity was not going to happen? Not trying to be argumentative, Ed. Just offering something for us to consider. Grace to you, Radioman2 |

Radioman2 Again since God first made the analogy I will certainly use it, that being our Father and we His children. God leads us and trains us and expects us to learn, just as a human father does his child. When we display traits that show we haven’t learned our lesson I think it saddens and even disappoints God, however it does not effect His overall scheme of things nor did it surprise Him. Once more we find ourselves trying to explain God and quite frankly man can’t do that. God is God. God allows man to have choice but God also knows what the choice is and how to make it not effect His plan in the slightest. When we as humans make a plan and something changes within the plan it effects our overall plan. However God being God doesn’t have that problem. How does God do this? I don’t know but I do know that is what makes Him God. When we as mere mortals try to explain God within our dimensions of time, space, etc we fall miserably short because none of these things effect God. God is so far beyond our understanding we have no concept of being able to stand and see Creation, the Birth of Jesus, the Death of Jesus, the Resurrection, the Reformation, Today, Tomorrow, and Revelations future. We have no concept of enabling people to react to situations yet not being surprised by their reaction or not knowing that was exactly what they were going to do. The future is no more a mystery to God than the past was. How do we explain or try to limit God, that can see both the creation and final end of earth at the same time, by explaining his abilities to deal with out reactions in human limits? We can’t. God said believe or trust as a child. Have you ever seen a child fascinated with something they have never seen before? They don’t try to understand it, conceptualize it or explain it, they merely enjoy it. Why can’t we just enjoy God the Father without trying to understand Him, conceptualize Him or explain Him? EdB |
