I'd like to know the identity of Mary Magdalene, the demon-possessed woman who was healed by Jesus, and to whom Jesus appeared at the tomb the next morning. Is she the sister of Lazarus? Or...? Appreciate some help here. Thanks.

Pee Cee, Mary of Magdala or Mary Magdalene (cf. Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus the Nazarene) is one of seven Marys mentioned in the New Testament. Mark 16:9 and Luke 8:2 indicate that this Mary from Magdala, a fishing and trade center of ancient Galilee, was exorcised of some seven demons. She eventually became part of the inner circle of supporters of Jesus. She was a witness to His (1) crucifixion -- Mark 15:40; Matt.27:56; John 19:25 (2) burial -- Mark 15:47; Matt.27:61 (3) empty tomb -- Mark 16:18; Matt.28:1-10; Luke 24:10, and (4) resurrection -- Mark 16:9; John 20:1-18......... A tradition dating from about 500 A.D. has identified Mary Magdalene as the sinful woman (prostitute) of Luke 7:36-50. There is no textual reason whatever on any account for such an association. The farce called "Jesus Christ, Superstar" picked up on this ages-old erroneous characterization of Mary Magalene and showed her as a prostitute in the blasphemous musical..... Of particular significance is that Jesus appeared after His resurrection first to a woman, and that woman was none other than Mary of Magdala. --Hank

The farce called "Jesus Christ, Superstar" picked up on this ages-old erroneous characterization of You write "Mary Magalene and showed her as a prostitute in the blasphemous musical" ....... funny how the Holy Spirit can touch me through what you call a farce ..... you ought to think about what you criticize before you blaspheme. Mary Magdalene's words in Jesus Christ Superstar "I dont know how to love Him, what to do, how to move Him, He's a man, an ordinary man, and I've had so many, men before, in very many ways, He's just one more .... should I bring Him down, should I scream and shout, should I speak of love, let my feelings out? I've never known a Love like this, what's its all about? Yet if He said He loved me, I'd be lost, I'd be frightened, I couldn't cope, just couldn't cope, I'd turn my head, and I'd back away, I wouldn't want to know, He scares me so, I love Him so ...." Whether Mary Magdalene was a prostitute in her former life or not, I'm sure she doesn't mind if the Holy Spirit uses her to reach someone of the future so that Jesus can touch them.
