1 | is suicide a sin? | NT general Archive 1 | 2Tim215 | 180441 | ||
Well, one of the Ten Commandments is, "Thou shalt not kill." If God made us for his divine purpose, I doubt selfishly killing yourself is glorifying God. Just a thought. |

Okay, what I've said has been said already. Reading the previous dialogue, I'm going to admit that suicide has crossed my mind in the past, but in my heart I've always held the knowledge that it is the wrong thing to do. Not only is it disobedience of God, the people I would have left behind never would have gotten over their loss. Listen to Jeff in #179225. Oh yeah. Just by the way, I run cross country. Not very well, but I'm getting better. The point is, in the middle of 3.1 miles, you ache so bad you just want it to end. To a newbie like me, any route OUT of this misery is welcome. But whenever I reach the finish line, all I can remember is the glory. –The greater the effort, the greater the reward.– God bless ya. |

Why do you ask? The most our school has ever won is Confrence (and that was this last season!) : ) The thing about running the race is you cannot stop–it is to keep going even though you want to stop. I use Cross Country as my "life metaphor" (if you'll let me be a bit vague) because in Cross Country, it takes a lot of strength, and courage even, to make it to the finish line. Much less win the race! As a believer, I must stick with the course God has laid out for me. I may lose sight of the course but that doesn't matter because all strength comes from God. And besides; It's a well-known prinicple that looking down at your feet just wears you out. That's probably why Paul said to keep our eyes on Jesus. We must "run" so we are not disqualified–going off the track, walking, qutting being against the rules. Just a few weeks ago I wanted to stop running this race, but I knew that if I doggedly kept going, I'd see the way again (which is exactly what had happened to me when our team went to State). Now, I know that God's grace is free and we didn't and can't do anything to repay it or earn it, but we are to be living sacrifices to God–everything we have is His. Running in such a way as to not be DQ'd (disqualified) is just a small part of that sacrifice. |

Prov 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction. Prov 8:11 "For wisdom is better than jewels; And all desirable things cannot compare with her. Prov 24:13 My son, eat honey, for it is good, Yes, the honey from the comb is sweet to your taste; know that wisdom is thus for your soul; If you find it, then there will be a future, And your hope will not be cut off. |
