"The Holy Spirit does not give us "powers". He gives us gifts." All of the Holy Spirit is given to us as the "Unction to Function". He is the 'Linen Garment' spoken of in Esk.44.17,18. Jesus baptises with the Holy Ghost and with fire. See Acts 2. That still happens today. "The gift of discernment",...yes "the gift of understanding",...I think no. "the gift of teaching, or preaching, or encouraging, or serving...ect.....None of the these are gifts and serving is more of a fruit. "The Holy Spirit also empowers us to live for God No. That you do because you love God. The love you have for Him should be sufficient. "by guiding and teaching us what scripture says when we are reading it..... Yes. "He also give us strength to tell others about the gospel message and helps us remember the verses to share with others." Strength should be a "Wisdom" as to when to speak combine with what to say.."word of knowledge". Can you see why the baptism [per Acts 2] is so important? Nine Gifts: 1 Cor. 12:7-10 (KJV) But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. Word of wisdom Word of knowledge Faith Gifts of healing Working of miracles; Prophecy Discerning of spirits Divers kinds of tongues Interpretation of tongues: Five administrations: Apostles, Pastors, Teachers, Evangelists, Helps. Three offices; Prophet, Priest, King. Hope this has been a "Help" to you. Ken |

unfortunately, you are mistaken and it may be because you are in a denomination that is not teaching what scripture says. If you read and study scripture yourself, putting aside what anyone has told you about this subject, then you would see that Gifts of the spirit are as i listed them originally, and Fruit of the SPirit are patience, love, kindeness ect... For some reason, if you wrote this topic to start a discussion you should not do that, because this is a forum for people who do not understand something or are seeking an answer. As such, if someone answers it is your responsibility to read the bible and study that answer after someone posts an answer for you. and to answer one of your other questions... the baptism of the Holy Spirit happens at conversion..when a person is saved. Everyone who is saved has the Holy Spirit as the guarantee of their salvation, the seal of God, and because we have him in us, he will be our councelor and guide in our new life in Christ as well as our scriptural teacher (this is per scripture, not my opinion, but i agree with it because it is in scripture). |

Like apples of gold in settings of silver Is a word spoken in right circumstances. Proverbs 25:11 Ken, we have dialogued in the past and I have read through the exchanges on this thread and it seems to me that you need some healing in your attitude, not only toward members of this Forum, but toward yourself as well. I sincerely hope that you will consider how you express yourself and let your words be more edifying that what you have posted here. In Chistian love, mommapbs |

Stirred in the Inner Life by the Word By: Andrew Murray I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: fist for the Jew, then for the Gentile. Romans 1:16 The true aim of education, study, reading, is to be found, not in what is brought into us, but in what is brought out of ourselves by the awakening into active exercise of our inward power. This is as true of the study of the Bible as of any other study. God’s Word works its true blessing only when the trust it brings to us has stirred the inner life, and reproduced itself in resolve, trust, love or adoration. When the heart has received the Word through the mind, and has had its spiritual powers called out and exercised on it, the Word is no longer void, but has done that whereunto God has sent. It has become part of our life, and strengthened us for the new purpose and effort. A Spiritual Journey Life Renewal Devotional ã1992 by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved. "God’s Word works its true blessing only when the trust it brings to us has stirred the inner life, and reproduced itself in resolve, trust, love or adoration." Ken, do you see this happening in your posts? What kind of response are you eliciting from others? "Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear." Eph 4:29 Again, I ask that you be EDIFYING - in your judgment of my faith, where was Scripture for my correction, instruction or encouragement? mommapbs |

But you are assuming my attitude is wrong. It isn't. I guard what comes from me, that it be righteousness. BUT I haven't arrived. My discernment is still under construction. For that I appologize, especially to you. I've re-read many of your inquiries and have seen my lack in responding to you. Please forgive me. And thanks for the kind rebute. Ken Murray is right on with what He states to be the need of everyone seeking to "become" other than "just saved" good living folk hoping their re-dedicator won't give out on them every Sunday. |

Thank you Ken! None of us are "complete in Christ" yet and thankfully, it is GOD who is at work IN us to conform us to the image of His Son - may each of us pursue those things which will make His job less difficult! mommapbs |

Thank you MOM, When you wrote "complete in Christ" the below came to mind. Examine the two verses and compare with salvation. I mean if I say we are "saved to be saved" you'd think I'm weird. But yet Paul says: Col. 1:28 (KJV) [Christ] Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Col. 2:10 (KJV) And you are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. We are indeed saved by the Blood of the Lamb..But unto what NOW as we wait for the redemption of our bodies? |

Ken, I hear what you are saying "we are saved to be saved" BUT this is a concept that I just can't reconcile. The operative word that you have shared is "may" - I believe that this little word recognizes the sovereignty of God. God IS sovereign - He is Lord no matter what I believe. I trust Him with my soul as I trust Him with yours and those who have yet to know Him. mommapbs |

[The operative word that you have shared is "may" - I believe that this little word recognizes the sovereignty of God.] Our choice, MOM....Freewill...God's Grace is NOT irresistable. If it was we'd be robot's, wouldn't we? Our love to Him wouldn't be love. We chose Him because we saw His love. Then our broken spirit was made new. Many don't choose Him though He died for them, also. "Blessed are they....who hunger and He already knows who is hungering and "will not leave them confortless". Having said all this takes nothing away from the sovereignty of God. His foreknowledge is often looked at as predestination requirying no action on our part. That's not so. He just always knows how we will choose because He sees our whole life. I thank Him that He saw I would choose Him because the way He has brought me, I now see His object. I know it is more than redemption He has in His eternal plan. |
