richilou, It is a wise man who concentrates on what he knows and is silent in areas where his knowledge is lacking. Your knowledge about Catholic doctrine is lacking. Let me address just two parts of your post. " Catholics have nothing to do with the salvation presented in the Bible. They believe in Jesus Christ, yes, but at the same time, they believe in a salvation by works,(richilou's mistaken belief about Catholic docrtine), which is completely condemned by the apostle Paul in Ephesians 2.8-10. " The real Catholic teaching from the Council of Trent: "CHAPTER VIII HOW THE GRATUITOUS JUSTIFICATION OF THE SINNER BY FAITH IS TO BE UNDERSTOOD But when the Apostle says that man is justified by faith and freely,[44] these words are to be understood in that sense in which the uninterrupted unanimity of the Catholic Church has held and expressed them, namely, that we are therefore said to be justified by faith, because faith is the beginning of human salvation, the foundation and root of all justification, without which it is impossible to please God[45] and to come to the fellowship of His sons; and we are therefore said to be justified gratuitously, because none of those things that precede justification, whether faith or works, merit the grace of justification." "Canons Concerning Justification Canon 1. If anyone says that man can be justified before God by his own works, whether done by his own natural powers or through the teaching of the law,[110] without divine grace through Jesus Christ, let him be anathema." "Their system is hypocritical without realizing it fully themselves. So, for instance, they say that baptism is a key to enter the family of God. I ask you a question: "Have you ever noticed that, on the cross, one of the criminals who was crucified with Jesus, has been saved by his conversion, and no baptism has never been done for him." (richilou's mistaken belief about catholic doctrine) The real Catholic doctrine about baptism from the Catechism of the Catholic Church: "VI. THE NECESSITY OF BAPTISM 1257 The Lord himself affirms that Baptism is necessary for salvation.[59] He also commands his disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all nations and to baptize them.[60] Baptism is necessary for salvation for those to whom the Gospel has been proclaimed and who have had the possibility of asking for this sacrament.[61] The Church does not know of any means other than Baptism that assures entry into eternal beatitude; this is why she takes care not to neglect the mission she has received from the Lord to see that all who can be baptized are "reborn of water and the Spirit." God has bound salvation to the sacrament of Baptism, but he himself is not bound by his sacraments. 1258 The Church has always held the firm conviction that those who suffer death for the sake of the faith without having received Baptism are baptized by their death for and with Christ. This Baptism of blood, like the desire for Baptism, brings about the fruits of Baptism without being a sacrament. 1259 For catechumens who die before their Baptism, their explicit desire to receive it, together with repentance for their sins, and charity, assures them the salvation that they were not able to receive through the sacrament." The only thing I can say is, whether you are a catholic yourself, or you are a christian who thinks understand catholicism in all its doctrines. My friend, concerning the way to get baptism in our death, it is one thing to say what the councils said, but where is the biblical support for all that stuff? And for the rest of what you said, just look at the passages of the Bible I quoted and give me another biblical interpretation of these, not by what Catholic Church has already said, but founded on the word of God alone. In fact, the person asked what were the differences between Catholics and Protestants. You have just well displayed what it is. The catholics use their writings whereas Protestants (evangelical ones) use the Bible, period. Read 2 John 9 and you'll understand what I mean. Sincerely |

richilou, If it wasn't for the Catholic Church preserving and copying the Bible over the centuries, especially the New Testament, you wouldn't even have the bible. In fact the Catholic Church was proclaiming and preaching the Gospel before the New Testament was even written. That is how it was able to discern what books reflected the true Gospel and word of God and what did not when they identified the cannonical books of the New Testement. That is one Catholic Tradition you and all Christians hold, whether you know it or not. Catholic Tradition and Councils are what determined the table of contents of your New Testament my friend. It did not come with a table of contents. Emmaus |

Have you ever learned that Catholicism of the first century was not to be compared to the actual one? I think that is where you err in your evaluation of the authority of Scriptures in the background of Catholicism. By the way, the word "catholic" itself is not a dangerous word at all, because it means "universal". So, in one sense, the real christian is member of the Catholic church, but not the Roman Catholic Church where the Pope is the authority, whereas in the New Testament, the only ultimate authority of the Church on earth is Christ (Eph. 5), even though He is in heaven now. | ||||||
