Here are some verses for you to study concerning this topic 4 For as touching those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 7 For the land which hath drunk the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receiveth blessing from God: 8 but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse; whose end is to be burned. Heb. 6:4-8 ASV They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for awhile believe, and in time of temptation FALL away. (Lk. 8:13 also Mark 4:16-17) Heb 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (referring to the Lord's second coming) shall not come, except there come a falling away first. (2 Thess. 2:3) 1Tim 5:12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 1Tim 5:15 For some are already turned aside after Satan. Rev. 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. If a man abide not me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. (John 15:6) Rom 11:21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven (Heb. 12:25) But it is happened unto them For if after they have escaped the pollution's of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than after they have known, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. (2 Pet. 2:20-22) When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die ... in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; (Ezek. 3:20) I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (1 Cor. 9:27) I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ (Gal. 1:6) Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. (Heb. 4:1) Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering ... For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for our sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Heb. 10:23,26-31) Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. New Creature: May I suggest that faith that falters had a flaw in it from the first. The verse in Hebrews is refering to Christians who have become so carnak that they can not repent. Then end results can be death, but not loss of salvation. How can the Holy Spirit let go of someone whom He is covering until the person reaches Jesus. The holy Spirit is our surity from the Father, assuring our eternal security. Think on this, I hope it makes things clearer justme |

New Creature: May I be perfectly honest with you? Lets not spin a thread a foot long on my computer screen, ok? I think we have opposing views on Eternal Security, which in reality makes no difference, as we both see the importance of following Christ and to our faith being kept strong, and our walk of faith being continual. The debate of "can we loose our salvation" reminds me of an Old Testament historic event. When the people were told to put the blood of teh Lamb on the door posts and mantels, and the Death Angel would pass by, and the first born would not die. I feel confident, because human nature is as it was then, and always will be. Some went to bed and slept with total peace knowing their trust in the Lord was enough, and there faith was strong. I am reasonabley sure that there were those who stayed up and prayed the whole night through, and equally felt there faith was strong, and felt praying for the Lords protection, was an act of faith. Neither of these reactions show any weakness in their faith in the Lords ability to save them. They aproched the situation by both puting the blood of the Lamb, on as they were told. Their response in waiting for the death angel to pass was quite different. I have the feeling I would have been cutting zees and slept like a log. Some might consider that lazy or weakness, I would say content, that the Lord would do as He said. I don't want to make this unsoveable debate, and go on and on, as in the past, several times on the Forum. For me there are bigger fish to fry in theology. I have studied this question from just about every way, my bias mind can. No one has been able to convience me you can loose your salvation once you are a genuine, born again Christian, at least in the last 50 years of Sunday School and personal Bible study and Bible College or Seminary. Faith that falters, had a flaw from the begining. That is what the story about the seeds is all about for me. I am not going to show anything but love and respect for those who so choose to believe other wise. One thing is for sure we will know when we see the LORD face to face. May I suggest a look at King David. Ih lied, lusted, took another mans wife while she was still married, concieved a baby with her, then had her husband killed. That is a very dasteradly bunch of evil deeds. David repents, says to God against you and you only Lord have I sinned! Well I am sure that God must change our temperments when we go to glory, or when David passed on Uriah would have had a little something waiting for David at his arrival. Then the Lord says David is a man after my own heart. Now if this does not show a very Merceifull, Gracefull, forgiving Lord, then I sure don't know what does! New Creature, we have different views, and there is nothing I can say, even from the Scripture that will change your understanding, and the same is true that I am just as firmly andsolidly planted, in my view as well. We have just saved us lots of notes, and a thread that thas repeated on this same topic at least three time this last year. I respect you, and pray the Lords blessings on you. justme |

Cyclist:-) Please let only the Lord be praised, for His working through the Holy Spirt which gives us the words to say in times of need. There is nothing in me that is excellent, except the Lord Jesus Christ to whom I am unworthy to take any praise that is His due. My knee is so well, the doctor dismissed me last Friday. I went to a special program three times a week and got those lazy nerves and mussels working again. This was a real blessing from the Lord. I am so thankful and blessed! Thank you for informing me about the removal. I found it to be in such extreme poor taste and judgement, I felt as it were an attack on being a follower of Christ. I have never responded in such a firm way, ever before. I felt so deeply about it, I had to make my distain very clear. So I thank you for your amen. May your day be blessed. justme |
