New Creature: If one exegetes Hebrews 6:4-8 to mean that the regenerate believer can "fall away" and that this means losing his salvation, then one must be prepared to accept the fact that it also teaches that it is impossible to be saved a second time. If the doctrine of the eternal security of the believer is untrue, then according to this passage, so is the doctrine that believers can "backslide" and it be possible "to renew them again to repentence" (v.6). A good expository sermon on this topic can be found at www.spurgeon.org. Click on the Hebrews 6:4-6 sermon. It's the finest exposition of this passage I've ever read. --Hank | ||||||
