Greetings Brian! In reading your profile you say that you are a relatively new Christian. Please elaborate on this for me. Also, You wrote, "I realize this is what has been missing." WHAT is missing? Please explain. I think I know where you are getting hung up but I'd like to learn more about your experience with the Lord. Blessings, Mommapbs |

My family never was very religious and as a result, I never was. I'm not a drug user, or an alcoholic or an abuser of people. I'm just what I think is a regular guy. I enjoy my brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and so on. About two years ago, I went to a Baptist Easter service with my brother and sister-in-law (my brother was like me until he met his wife, she had a positive influence on him. It was during that weekend at my brothers that I noticed how much more enriched his life seemed to be than when he was living back home. Even more enriched than our parents lives seem to be. It obviously is a combination of his being a husband and, then a new father and I believe that part of his enrichment is also from his faith. His life/attitude seems more complete and fulfilled. Since then, I have been more receptive to Christianity than I had been previously and I feel as though I am becoming a more complete person. I have not turned into a fantatical Jesus-freak but I'm taking it one step at a time. I read, study - I've monitored this forum and others, again just taking my time. Every once in a while, like here, I dig in a little deeper and then try to apply a thought or an idea to the big picture. In answer to your question as to what was missing - God was missing from my life. I'm not sure as to what you mean when you say I'm getting hung up. I never was completely sure what the full scope of good works included - through your help and Hanks, I now know - and then I applied it to other thoughts I've had over the past two years. Learn |

Thanks for the info! It is obvious that God is indeed drawing you into a relationship with Him. The following is sobering advice from King David, a true friend of God and a man after God's own heart. May you seek Him in like Manner! "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever." 1 Chronicles 28:9 When some people consider Christianity, too often they get the cart before the horse. They think that in order to BE a Christian one must DO Christ-like things. So, they try to follow the example of Jesus in their thoughts and actions. While this is admirable, it will not earn any favor with God. For God loves us just as we are- sinners. Hank pretty well summed it all up for you, echoing the Scriptures I asked you to look at. There is NOTHING that we have to DO to earn God's Grace - that's what is So AMAZING! (and so contrary to everything we have been taught by society! But remember that God's ways are NOT our ways.) I commend a great book to you by Max Lucado called "In the Grip of Grace". I found this to be a wonderful explanation of what God has DONE to make a WAY (Jesus) for US to COME to HIM!!!! Many blessings on your journey. Those that rest in the saftey of His shadow must walk behind Him. (This is the 9-1-1 RESCUE call to God - PSALM 91:1!) Mommapbs |

Mommapbs Thanks for the encouragement and support. Not to be disrespective to you, but I think I have to disagree with your comment that we don't need to do Christ-like things. I think if I truly believe in Christ, my not doing Christ-like things, is disrespectful to God. One thing I have learned in the past two years is that Jesus came to earth as a man - 100 percent man. And He proved that we can reject sin. I'm not talking about Jesus being born without sin - He did not accept sin, He rejected it. Maybe just accepting Jesus is enough to meet the minimum standard for entry into heaven, but I think God wants a closer relationship with us than a "just enough" relationship. I asked another question about why Catholics believe in Good Works. The response I received by someone named Emmaus (I am assuming is a Catholic) made a lot of sense to me. Thanks and I hope we have a chance to talk again Learn |

Greetings Learn, I suspect that there is a misunderstanding here. For a BELIEVER or an UNBELIEVER, anything that is contrary to God's Word, or not "Christlike" is called SIN! There is nothing that a believer or an unbeliever can DO that is "good enough" to gain any favor in God's sight. Our "good works" are never "good enough" but they become "good" only AFTER an individual has accepted the free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. I've given references in earlier post to you on this order! FATIH FIRST then "good" works!. There is no "minimum" standard for entrance into heaven. There is no standard of acheivement that we could ever meet on our own because we all have a sin nature, and sin is unacceptable to God. As discussed, Jesus is the only ONE who met God's standard for us! HE is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). Yes, God desires a closer relationship with us. It begins and CONTINUES with faith and obedience. Trusting God to keep His promises, even when we fail to keep ours! For a believer in Jesus CHrist, our relationship with God grows. But it is HE who begins and completes the work HE desires to in us!(Phi 1:6) Our responsibility is to cooperate with Him, to allow HIM to be at work within us! It's like being in a "school room." We don't get to go to the next class until we have completed the assigned work. Some may advance, others will have to repeat the course. Some may graduate, and others may find themselves in "detention" under Divine discipline! The key is that GOD is not only our Teacher, but HE does the work in and through us! The simple Truth of the Christian walk is GOD dependency (as opposed to SELF sufficiency). God wants to be exalted in EVERY area of our LIFE! When God seems to be "missing" just remember that He is as near as your call! Keep searching God's Word! He will continue to reveal Himself and His desire for you through it! Blessings, Mommapbs |
