Greetings Mike! Concerning the phrase "unto death", it only used three times in the New Testament. 1 John 5:16 and 17, and John 11:4. Of the three, John 11:4 is the only one with a clear meaning in the context. Here is simply means a sickness that results in death, or not in this case. All three are written by John. Therefore, wouldn't it make more sense to say that a sin unto death is a sin that results in physical death? It would also fit the context as well. We should pray for a brother who sins, except in cases where that sin is punishable by death. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim: You ask: "wouldn't it make more sense to say that a sin unto death is a sin that results in physical death?" Yes, it would make more sense. And that is precisely WHY certain individuals refuse to believe it. It's too reasonable. Apparently for some it becomes necessary to abandon Scripture and reason and use voodoo logic to get their attention. You and others are doing an excellent job of writing sane, Scriptural, reasonable posts. Too bad such posts have no impact on certain individuals. kalos |
