Hello, Lisa. The "war" that you apparently missed was a long thread that started out with an inquiry into whether the Bible sanctions or forbids war. It quickly deteriorated into an ascerbic verbal blood bath on the the politics and philosophy of war. The Lockman Foundation, which owns and sponsors this forum, restricted the entire thread from appearing on the home page...... Concerning the other arm of your post, the one about reading between the lines, I empathize with you in your being baffled by the frequent incidences in which people tend to read into a post what clearly was never said. For instance, only recently I ventured a remark that, had not our founding fathers opposed the British during the Revolutionary War, chances are we would now be subjects of the British Crown. My correspondent promptly shot back, "So, what's wrong with the British?" Well, Lisa, in point of fact, I find nothing wrong with the British. The truth is that three generations ago my paternal ancestor came to these shores from Birmingham, England. When I was in the army stationed in Germany, I took every opportunity afforded me to visit England, the land of my roots..... Your perplexity -- and I scratch my head in dismay also -- reminds me of a story we used to tell back when I was a minor officer in a large insurance company. Whenever, the story goes, the president of the company walked by and cheerily greeted us with "Good morning, gentlemen!" upon his departure one would turn to the other and ask, "Now, just what do you suppose he meant by that?" So, Lisa, let's hang in there, keep our writing squarely on the lines, and pity those who vainly attempt to read between them :-) --Hank | ||||||

Ah HA! Well, thank you for enlightening me, Brother Hank! Much appreciated. I'm glad I missed that conversation entirely. What's that you say? You're allergic to plum pudding? Oh too bad! Be well, Lisa, Jesus Freak |
