Just quickly, as I have to go. Paragraph 1 is definitely not what I am saying. What the Bible contains is true, every bit of it. Doctrine is our construction of that truth, in our own minds and is a model or approximation of an objective truth, which is what it is totally independent of our understanding. We must distiguish our understanding from the actual reality of the truth itself. Otherwise we may not hear the quiet correction of God. I apologize if I seem trivial. My life consists largely of words (but not of good typing), and even the Bible suggests that there is great power in them. I try to be careful and clear and find the discipline helps refine and clarify my understanding and thus my application of truth. If this dilaogue does not draw either of us or someone closer to God or help us hear Him more clearly, then it is vain and useless. I too am not interested in quibbling and am perhaps in error to pen so quick a response, but I have to go. I will reread your submissions. I believe there is merit in my doing so. Just be cautious the letter (and associated doctrine) kills if taken apart from the grace and Spirit of God. There will be skilled theologians in heaven and hell alike. Thank you for the time to help hone my own understanding, God bless you, forrest PS. I do know, and we can know absolute truth. It is discernable and "knowable", but the truth we can know abslolutely is not data or fact but is right relationship with our savior, Jesus Christ. All other truths are contained in Him and radiate from Him. I fear that many people know scripture, and know doctrine, but miss the savior passing near. This is a fearful thought and the motivation of my remarks. Forgive me if my statements have been unclear or seemed to be quibbling. My thoughts are not academic. I still fly, but used to fly an aircraft with terrain following radar. My E2 scope had a graphic display which was the ground and my climb profile. That presentation was my doctrine and I flew with direct reference to it. Yet, I always realized that the reference was not the ground itself which was always a very solid reality just a couple seconds away. |

I agree wholeheartedly with your statement, "We must distiguish our understanding from the actual reality of the truth itself." I do understand your points and the gist of your writings on this topic. I see by your writings that you love the Lord and live to please Him. I confess that I am sometimes impatient and harsh sounding, taking offense where none was intended. Forgive me. All of the warnings you give re head knowledge vs. heart knowledge (experience) are timely and appropriate to believers in general. Thank you for your sincere, conscientious postings. Keep on studying the written Word and getting to know the living word more and more. Sounds like you have more than a good start already. Your brother in the Lord, JVH0212 | ||||||

Dear JVH and forrest, You guys had a great conversation on 4/12 and 4/13 that I just now read. Rest assured that many people will be blessed by it, especially as your future postings with each other will continue to show the love of the Lord that you both have. Now since I'd rather talk about capitalization of scripture rather than unmarried sexual acts any day, that's what this posting is about. Typing mistakes that forrest implies he might make and varying, inconsistent usage of the Written Word aside, I would like to just say what I believe and would get from your discussion. The philosophical bent of the use of capitalization is thought of as a waste of time to you JVH but its use will help in showing that you are both saying the same things in agreement. I believe that there is truth itself and that there is the Truth Himself. I don't think we have to say truth itself (Himself) as forrest did. I believe that it is important to know the bible teaching that will lead to correct doctrine and tradition. We need to know the truth itself. I believe that it is most important to know the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and the "message of this Life." John 8:31 says, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the Truth, and the Truth will make you free."...NASB (except for capital T's) "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." Compare that with John 14:7, "...from now on you know Him and have seen Him."...and yet you have not come to know Me, Phillip?" I was led to contrast Isaiah 45:4-15 also. Don't be afraid to communicate your differences especially if you do as well as you did here. |
