Greetings Rebeccak9! The Bible never really details the process of marriage. Marriage customs are detailed, but they differ from place to place and time to time. However, marriage is never described as just being a convenant between a man and a woman, and God. Rom. 13:1-5 tells us that Christians are to submit to the governing authorities that rule over us. So, when our government requires a marriage license, we must submit to that law. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Also, Hebrews 13:4 talks about the need to ensure that the marriage bed (and the marriage) is honourable. A careful review of the first marriage in human history shows that Adam and Eve were presented in front of the proper authority at the time, namely God. (Gen 2:22) We can therefore deduce from Rom 13:1 and this verse that it is appropriate in God's eyes for marriages to be shown proper honour by registration with the Authorities. |
