1 | Can you tell me where was jesus for thos | Rev 1:18 | BradK | 144789
Hi Janae, Apparently I'm still lacking, because I don't see Rev. 1:18 as any type of "proof-text" that Jesus went to hell. Lower parts as I alluded to can mean "the ground"- as Jesus was buried in a tomb. The point I'm making is this: there is simply no clear scripture that states "Jesus went to hell"! It is speculation- at best- to say so. There is a major difference between solid scriptural support for one's position and gross speculation. I also don't know how you could be so certain that Paul was referring to hell. Could you elaborate? Janae, I just don't see that you have very valid argument here from Gods' Word! Maybe you could answer as to why Jesus would need to go to hell to atone for your and my sins to begin with? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

2 | Can you tell me where was jesus for thos | Rev 1:18 | Praise Be To God | 144792
The tomb was above the ground. The Holy Spirit has told me that Paul was referring to hell. I did not say that Jesus went to hell to atone for our sins. His death on the cross did that. I merely said he went to hell. My intellect tells me that since Jesus took upon his body all the sins of the world, that he would have to go to hell, because that is what happens to the sinner (although, Jesus, himself, was spotless and sinless). He went to hell for us. He died for us, so we wouldn't have to. I don't know what happened while he was in hell, but I know that he won the victory, and the keys to death and hades. When we get to heaven all things will be made known to us. We will find out exactly what happened to Jesus during those three days. In the meantime, we have to listen to the Holy Spirit when He tells us things while we are reading the Holy Scriptures. He wrote them. He is the teacher. The Bible says we need no man to teach us these things, as the Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth. I can't make you see my point of view and I am not trying to. You are free to believe what you want to believe on this point. It will not affect your salvation. But, I do not want to argue about it. I think we should just agree to disagree and leave it at that. No hyper-individualistic understanding You write: "The Holy Spirit has told me that Paul was referring to hell." Then you write: "we have to listen to the Holy Spirit when He tells us things..." I agree that "WE have to listen to the Holy Spirit when He tells US things..." But we do not have to listen to you or me or anyone else who says, "The Holy Spirit has told me..." To say that the Holy Spirit told me this or that does not prove anything. "As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him." (NASB) 1 John 2:27 '"You have no need for anyone to teach you." Both "you's" are plural and refer to the believing community as a whole; there is no ground here for a hyper-individualistic understanding of the Gospel wherein the views of other believers and the gathering of believers together are considered unimportant' (Jewish New Testament Commentary, David H. Stern, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc., 1992). Grace to you, Kalos |
