1 | Those who died before Jesus' death | 1 Pet 3:18 | Lisa G | 138500 | ||
Where is the scripture that makes reference as Jesus appearing to those who died before his death to give them the opportunity to receive him? I remember reading it in the bible not long ago and I am unable to find it now. Based on that scripture, I believe (or hope) those who have died before hearing about Jesus, including babies, may have the opportunity to receive Him before judgement. Any thoughts? |

People before Christ are not saved by believing in Jesus by name. They did not have to know that their Savoir's name was Jesus, and they did not know. People before Christ are saved the same way as those after Christ. They were saved by grace through faith. Those before Christ looked forward to the Messiah God would send, those after Christ look back to the Messiah God sent. Here is some Scriptures that make these points: Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." Deut 18:15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him. Deut 18:16 "This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, or I will die.' Deut 18:17 "The LORD said to me, 'They have spoken well. Deut 18:18 'I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. Deut 18:19 'It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him John 1:45 Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Gen 15:6 Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Rom 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found? Rom 4:2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. Rom 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." Rom 4:4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. Rom 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness, Gen 22:14 Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the LORD it will be provided." John 8:56 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad." Job 19:25 "As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth. Job 19:26 "Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God; Ps 23:6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Is 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Is 9:7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this. There are many other verses that teach that people before Christ were saved without knowing Jesus' name. They knew God would send a Redeemer, and believed and were saved. |
