1 | Are there stillborn Christians? | 1 Pet 2:2 | Morant61 | 16476
Greetings CDBJ! Here is the literal translation of the Greek text: 1 Peter 2:2 - "Like newborn babes, long for unadulterated spiritual milk that you may grow in salvation." "Long for" is a command, but the text does not specify whether or not these are new Christians. Some feel that they may have been. But, new or old, they were Christians according to 1 Pet. 1:23. The key to this verse is the context. 1 Pet. 1:13-2:2 is a section that deals with holiness. There are multiple commands give that relate to how we should live in the world since we are Christians. The only way to achieve this holiness of life is to immerse ourselves in God's word. Thus, Peter commands these believers to approach the word with the same kind of hunger that a new born babe approaches milk. The result of this longing for the word will be growth in salvation. 1 Pet. 1:3-9 deals with the past, present, and future aspects of salvation. 1 Pet. has several verses that focus on the future aspect of our salvation (vv. 5, 7, 9, and 13). This seems to be the sense of "growing in salvation". By immersing ourselves in His word, we are making progress toward that future goal. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Tim,I thank you for the answer you gave and that was pretty much the same way I found the verse. I just thought that maybe by breaking it down all the way into case, voice, tense, and mood, that something else might show up that I didn’t see on the surface. Reason being there are so many lax Christians when it comes to studying God’s word, as He commanded us to do, that it bothers me. Yours in the musterion of Christ, CDBJ
