1 | Are faithful Jews saved? | Deut 7:9 | Just Read Mark | 168301
I certainly agree with the broad sweep of your post. It is good, and clear. Could you help with the verses that indicate some special place for the Jews in God's heart, that are contained even in the same context as the verses quoted above. I am thinking of: "And so all Israel will be saved" (Romans 11:26) --- I recognize that it is talking about branches being pruned off, but then grafted back in. "Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. For the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable" (Romans 11:28,29) |

I'm not claiming to know one way on the other. Certainly I don't really care whether the Jews like being the target for evangelism. If the Sinai Covenant historically had the ability to save certain observant Jews then I think it may well continue to do so. God's covenants don't expire. Certainly there is a newer and better way... |

Hi Robin, I don't know that we can say the Sinai Covenant actually saved anyone. Life came in the keeping of the Law (Gal 3:12). Had any of them kept the law, they would have entrance into heaven. But none could, so substitutionary sacrifice was given. But that sacrifice didn't remove sin, it only covered sin. Heb 10:4 "For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins." Only in Jesus' death is sin truly and finally dealt with. Heb 10:10 "By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." This New Covenant replaces the Old, and with the destruction of the temple in 70 AD, animal sacrifice according to the Law cannot even be made. Heb 10 8 After saying above, "SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them" (which are offered according to the Law), 9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL." He takes away the first in order to establish the second. So the Old Covenant has been replaced by the New Covenant. Even so, the Law can only point one to Christ. Gal 3:21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. Gal 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. Hebrews 10 explains in depth the answer to this question. There is a newer and better way, and an only way. Love in Christ, Mark |

I thought that's what I said. Perhaps not as perspicuously... but I thought that's what I said. :-)
